The restraints on some SM:M2 trains now have new padding on them... secured in place with scotch tape!!

Apparently they make the bumpiness worse as well, since now you're sure to bump you head against the sides...

I suppose this means that they're aware of how bad it (IMO) is.

These have been in place for quite some time now, and it's not held together witch scotch tape.  I've read the same message on a French board.  The extra head support is attached with some sort of silicone glue.  I'll get a decent picture of it next time I'm there.

Oh yes this well interesting I thought they looked odd when I rode it, also it seems a bit odd doesn't it, but does not affect my ride anyway and if anything probably hit my ears a little more than usual  , since my head is higher than the restraint lol.

Finally!  This is the mp3 we've been waiting for...

  //http://smmission2.free.fr/musiques/Space%20Mountain%20Mission%202%20-%20Full%20Show.mp3

The file name says it all - just over 2 minutes of magic!  It's not 100% full - it seems to start halfway through some extra (and really cool) music, but it's probably the best we'll ever get without a proper CD release.

Massive thanks to Androland for the track!

Are there any changes to the route of the ride? Does it do anything more scary than it used to??? I haven't been on since it was revamped.Dying to know more. Will be there again soon.

No, the route is exactly the same, except you are now launched from lower down in the cannon. Every effect seems new, the music is new, the queue line is new and the trains have been re-painted... with new speakers in some (I believe). The track is still the same, but the effects tell the story of a new journey into space. It's dead cool (in short).  :D
Grab a balloon, come on let\'s go!

Side not: All the vehicles got new speakers, the same as the ones in the Rock 'n Roller Coaster.  :D

I've noticed that there are lots of people who are somewhat unfair to the update of space mountain. Before i was in agreement (more or less), but now I've had a big change of heart toward mission 2.

I loved de la terre a la lune and its brilliant score and theming that was actually consistent with the outside of the ride and the rest of discoveryland and i was disappointed at first with the update (aside from the special effects inside the mountain and the new paint job and lights outside which i was always impressed with). This was before i went to DLRP again last month when i realised just how brilliant it is! Looking back to the old ride the scenery and theming inside the mountain were a bit lame (apart from the view from the queue) but on the ride itself, the asteroids were 2 dimensional, the UV painted wooden cutouts of characters from the book (presumably) and the basic slowly rotating projection of the moon at the climax of the ride is just so...... 90s!
I remember being amazed at these decorations before the ride was revamped, but i think that was due to me being 13 and a child of the 90s. if they had kept the inside as it was, it would look rubbish nower days and i seriously doubt it would wow today's media savvy 21st century 13 yr olds with their x-stations and wii-boxes.

The soundtrack was better on the original, and i preferred the old storyline and the grandeur of it all. But the effects (and the faster cannon launch) make it an improvement in my eyes.

One way it could be better (maybe something they could do when mission 2 is showing age) is to have modern special effects AND the old from the earth to the moon storyline- with a re-recorded version of the old soundtrack.

That is what i would like to see. But until then, i'd like people to stop bashing mission 2 and start loving it as i do.

Hmm cant really remember much about the first mission... Did it mostly with my eyes closed and screaming very loudly   , and towards the end, when I started opening my eyes (still screaming very loudly), without my glasses (always afraid of them flying off), I couldn't see much...

Same for Mission 2, there's mostly one bit, I guess it's the supernova explosion, that is right before your eyes, that one I can see!! And the bit in the tunnel with the red lights, love that bit!! (dont remember if that was also like that before...)

Space Mountain is great. Don't see how anyone could complain about it!

There's more to Disney than the 'x-stations and wii-boxes' generation. The old theming of Space Mountain wasn't lame to me, just the lighting could've been taken better care of. Also not all the asteroids were 2 dimensional. They were half spheres as far as i know of.

I respect your contribution to this topic, but please let everyone have his/her own opinion.

I'm starting to like SM:M2 more and more now too. On my last visit I rode it during the EMHs and had a train to myself, sitting in the front seat, with the music actually working. It was definitely one of the highlights of my trip.  I also noticed it's nowhere near as rough in the front as it is in the back.

I still prefered de la Terre à la Lune though.

I like to hear both sides to every argument. This thread surely has pointed out the best and worst bits.
As davidsykes points out maybe it's time we just accept what we've got rather than yearn for the past.
But...

Isn't this returning it to mission 1?

I think the new soundtrack has to be the main grip for me.

I'm afraid now it's too late to return to an updated Mission 1. This is mainly because of the younger audience is more interested in the entire space theme than the old Jules Verne story. But i still think DLRP should have taken some more time for Mission 2 in 2005, if you look in it some way it is somehow rushed. Some effects are well worked out like the red vortex and lots of projections but for instance they need to make it darker in the mountain, you can almost see every support and track in the building sometimes. And the Supernova could've been more awesome with some effects added and a clearer projection and maybe done a bigger update to the trains to make the ride smoother. But i still think Mission 2 is awesome though.
