The Corscrew at Alton Towers (Vekoma again) is due for a train change due to the roughness. So costly infact, I believe the whole ride is for the chop next year. HOWEVER, This will not be the case`with SMM2!

So, what have they done? If the music works for every 'adventure', what has been done differently? This is indeed awesome to hear tho.
Welcome foolish mortals

I beleive the trains for corkscrew aren't even proper vekoma trains, they are addapted arrow trains because Alton Towers didn't want to spend money on new trains, this counts   for its roughness...and then you have the matter of age.

But yes the ride is rumoured to be going as early as the end of this season!

I just pray for the day vekoma make a train where ALL the wheels touch the track lol  Oh and change the restraints!

I just read something, i don't know exactly if it is true. Space Mountain's refurb this month is a little different from the others, the first thing you'll notice is that it is longer than the standard cable change rehabs we usually get but there is black corkscrew coaster track at the Vekoma factory in the Netherlands, this is the same track type as Space Mountain, from the source it seems the track parts are marked to be sent to France, so this could mean Space Mountain is getting some track parts replaced, this month. Not quite sure but it does sound possible. Does anyone know if it is possible to ride the coaster with the lights on early in the morning or is this something only a cast member can do?

It would be fantastic news if it is, and I really hope this is true. Space Mountain (almost  ) back to it's former glory. People would be able to ride it enjoy it as an outstanding ride, without having to complain about coming off with headaches, etc. Does anyone have any more information on this? :)

Well the shaking is down to the cars, not the track

Well it is mostly because of the wheels, i think if Disney is aware that this is one of the problem causers they could easily change it during the rehab. I'll try to find out of the track news is true, i'm heading near Vlodorp soon anyway, this is where Vekoma is located, but i think this is pretty much a waterproof story. I can't promise any pictures of the tracks though.

It's wildly known within the theme park community that vekoma's aren't the smoothest rides in the world. New Vekoma track is getting better though compared with 1995.

I would also presume that 4 days isn't enough time to change an inversion. Especially when we are talking about 2 huge pieces of metal.
Look at this picture, it would be a huge amount of work to get the track out of building, nevermind avoiding the rest of the track.

They're just small parts, replacing a few meters of track could very well be possible, completing complete coaster tracks takes less time than it use to, so replacing a few meters wouldn't be much of a problem. However i don't think the track that would be made now isn't any different than the current track, the track Space Mountain and RNRC use almost isn't made anymore since Vekoma is using a new type of track on they're newer coasters.

Was on Space Moutain on Wednesday and Thursday this week and the first ride was possibly the roughest ride I've ever had out of the 108 coasters I've been on. I guess it was that specific train as my ride on thursday was rough but not as bad. I was dreading the corkscrew after the previous bits of the ride were already painful.

Also on Thursday Space Mountain was having a lot of technical difficulties. Whilst in the queue the ride was stopped often as you could hear the "Attention space travellers your journey has been trapped by a meteorite" announcement.
Once I had finally got to station I boarded the train but once all the restaints got closed they opened again and we all got told to leave and stand back in the queue.
Finally the ride got opened again after a long wait but it continued breaking down all day.

Oh, that's not good to hear :(!

I don't understand all those breakdowns, Crush, Space Mountain etc... everyone's talking about broken down rides or missing effects, what's wrong with DLRP?! I really hope they can fix it till November/December  [-o<

Big Thunder Mountain was also down all day on Wednesday.
Pirates also opened late on Wednesday due to technical difficulties.

when i was in disneyland on a three day trip in late september this year, Space mountain was closed the whole time   , but wasn't so bad, everything else was working as normal as far as i've seen and experienced

its just a sad fact of any theme park that rides do and will brake down just one of the avoidable things!

When I was in disney for 7 nights, 3 rides broke down! (RNRRC, BTM, PM)

Well when I go to DLRP in 3 weeks time, I'm going to try it out for the first time, yes you heard correctly....The First Time..

It's one of those rides that all the family won't go on for whatever reason, it'll be the same for TOT, but if I can I'm gonna give them both a shot.. :D/

I came across this Youtube footage, not sure if it's been posted before, it probably has, but it's got me intrigued now after watching it, aswell as more knowledgeable about the ride's operations in general >>
