Quote from: "Willow"Vekoma cars are terrible. They are getting better these days though.

I like OTSRs, just not the Vekoma versions.
The newer Vekoma cars are very comfortable, especially the new looping-coaster ones, i was luclucky enough in Italy where they installed them on an older coaster.
New restraints for SMM2 are no option with these trains, mainly because the main body is built for this type of restraint, so the train would have to be replaced with new trains that support the new restraints. Don't think that will be happening any time soon though, most coaster trains easily hold up 20 years before even considering to be replaced, though there are some exceptions, i study these things so yeah lol :P Though there haven't been any OTSR with the new restraints from Vekoma yet, but the replacement of the trains at the ride really should be a priority for DLP.

I haven't had the opportunity to try out the new Vekoma trains yet, I have heard good reviews for them. It would be a worthwhile investment for Disney to buy new trains.

The Vekoma of 1995 is vastly different to the Vekoma of 2009, they have really improved in the last few years.

Sorry, Forgot to update! Yeah, it was open again on Thursday, as bumpy as ever ;) :P

On the current topic... Rnrc is vekoma i think... Why not replace SM With that track and cars? :P sooo much smoother, rnrc is smooth and comfortable compared to sm, Keep current launch system tho, old fashion cable is the best ;)

Agreed, plus the track now used is also changed, SMM2 and RNRC's track isn't they're track type anymore, they're going for a more B&M approach with Hyper Coasters, new Flyers and of course new standard loop coasters. SMM2 only needs the trains replaced though, and maybe a bit polishing up of the launch system, renew some parts of it and stuff. If SMM2 was going to get a big refurb i'd have a few priorities for the ride.
1. Renew the trains to the newer models.
2. Renew the launch system, current method is okay though.
3. Fix all broken effects.
4. Adjust the lighting/star projection in the dome, it is currently way too bright in the dome and just doesn't cut the pitch black space feeling.

Here's a picture of the new trains for those who haven't seen it.

I tried them out in Italy in Gardaland, the restraints are a bit wider and have a bit less pressure on the body area, thus making it a bit more comfortable, they're a lot smoother on ride also.
I was thinking about the soundtrack though, it isn't that M2's score is bad, but just that the new Incredibles-style music isn't as epic as the full-orchestra version Steve Bransom did, maybe they should've let Hans Zimmer do it, he worked on the Pirates of the Caribbean films, but his style of scores really would've added to the ride.

Exactly, the The Grand Gongda Jianguo Hotel. That's really what Space Mountain needs. A hotel built on the side of it. Genius.

Didn't think this was worth a new topic.....

Tim Delaney has done an interview with The Season Pass Podcast, in Part 2 he discusses:

QuoteEpisode 115 continues the Three Part Journey with the recent Vice President of Creative Design and Executive Designer for Walt Disney Imagineering Tim Delaney.  During this discussion Tim dives into the creation of Disneyland Paris, more specifically Discoveryland.  We also get deep into the ENTIRE creative process for Disneyland Paris' most ambitious and popular attraction Space Mountain.  This episode is filled with great WDI creative history: A Can't Miss!  Enjoy. ;)

Haven't had time to have a listen lately, sounds like it could be interesting.

I like the fact they just let him speak and it all spills out... great listen.

He says "I think they're bringing Captain EO back", so must not hear much DLP news (they're not).

I believe a certain someone got a message from him recently, congratulating him on some "Photos Magiques" of Discoveryland...

I'm listening to it right now, it's great so far. I love Tim Delaney, he's got so many great stories to tell!

I wish "the hole in the wallet gang" would get together and write a book... Very funny when he said the French officials were just "expecting carnival tents or something" and then they got there. haha

Someone should sit down current Euro Disney SCA/TWDC management and force them to listen to this.

Couldn't agree with you more Anthony! We need a team full of "Tim Delaneys" in DLP management and design once again.

It's such a pleasure to listen to Tim Delaney. WDI really needs more imagineers like him or Tony Baxter. They should send both to DLRP so that they can see all the mess that happened in the last years. Maybe they could rework WDS.

I think Tim will not like Buzz Lightyear, because the building facade doesn't really fit into Discoveryland. Nevertheless I like the attraction, but the facade should have  been kept in golden colours instead the white and grey colours.

I agree - this is a really good podcast and they really need more imagineers like Tim Delaney!!

Did anyone manage to find the picture of the painting of the discoveryland castle they were talking about?
