This is a great news. I just wonder why they're going with hybrid and not full electric? Maybe they'd have to add an electric busbar to the road, in order for the cars to run off electricity, which would require more work. By going hybrid, perhaps all they have to change is the cars themselves?

Ok, so I just saw this on Twitter:

Quote
@DisneylandParis Autopia goes green! The first Autopia cars with HYBRID motor are on the track and being tested right now!!

My question remains; why hybrid? Hybrid cars usually use electric below a certain speed, and then the petrol engine kicks in above that speed. Since the Autopia cars always go so slowly (about 7 mph) all the time, why would they ever need a petrol engine? I don't understand  :D

My guess would be that cost and safety are the reasons. The cars are on the track running the whole day, so there is no way any battery could do. So they either would have to recharge each car very regularly or they would have to implement a way to get the electricity to the cars while they are driving. An electric rail or something like that on the middle of the street would probably cost a lot and it would be really dangerous. And you wouldn't want something similar to what those carnival bumper cars are using, would you?

The ones that are extremely slow by the end of the day? Best not. My second go on them when I was a kid was spoilt by how slow they were. XD

How about nuclear reactors on the back of each car?

Or better still just get out and push the car, that would be greener.
