I would love the lap bars instead of the shoulderbars, however the trains need to be themed way beter and that might provide extra room for onboard audio...

DLRP's Space Mountain is featured on the official Disney Parks Blog:

This Day In Disney History: Space Mountain: Mission 2 blasts off

Space Mountain: Mission 2 debuted at Disneyland Paris in Marne-la-Vallée, France on April 9, 2005.

The attraction originally opened as Space Mountain: De la Terre a la Lune in the Discoveryland area of the park June 1, 1995. It was re-imagined in time for the attraction's tenth anniversary in 2005, reopening as Space Mountain: Mission 2, complete with enhanced special effects and a new soundtrack.

The attraction at Disneyland Paris was the fourth of five Space Mountain attractions to open at Disney theme parks around the world. The first debuted at Magic Kingdom Park in 1975, then Disneyland in 1977, and Tokyo Disneyland in 1983. Hong Kong Disneyland has since added a Space Mountain in September 2005.

Quote from: "Topcat401965P"I used to love Space Mountain but i don't ride it anymore.

On my previous 2 visits, i went on Space Mountain but it has always been rough. So rough that i've encountered bad headaches after having my head thrown around. Even though i kept my head back against the back of the seat, my head was still thrown around.

Until they improve this ride, i will be staying away from it. My sister feels the same and she's an adrenaline junkie.

It would take a lot for me to decide not to ride Pace Mountain, I love it. I do agree though, it can be a bit jarring! However, RnRc I feel, is more so! My head banged so much against the restraints last time I rode it, I came off with a very severe migraine. Don't get me wrong, it wont stop me going on it in 2 weeks, but I will definatley brace myself and get the painkillers ready. Space Mountain is aging now, so maybe they should look into refurbing it, but I guess that would be a long way down the list of things to do!

I just read on micechat.com that Space Mountain isn't owned by ED SCA. According to member BeDay, SM is owned by Walt Disney Imagineering and is also payed for by WDI. DLRP leases SM from WDI.

I always have this problem of getting thrown about, usually taking the brunt of it on my left shoulder. But last time everything went fine. I dont know if they'd greased the track or if my position in the train was the solution. Will investigate it further in September, and hopefully get my wife onto it for the first time ever

I have listened to the podcast with former Imagineer Tim Delaney about creating Discoveryland and Space Mountain and he mentioned that a special for TV about building SM was made. So I searched YouTube for those videos and I found the video.

If the moderators think that the topic would fit better into the weblinks section of the board, feel free to move it. I just thought that more people would watch the videos if they would be posted in the SM topic.

See, how clever was I to record that TV show 16 years ago? If I hadn't recorded it, nobody would be watching it now in 2011 :-)

Did you put the videos on YouTube? Thanks a lot!
Are all videos released under DisneyParkVideos from you?

No no. I have nothing to do with DisneyParkVideos. But I think I was the only person that actually recorded Shoot For The Moon back in 1995. The file I originally uploaded has been shared around a lot, and has now ended up on YouTube.

Does anyone have any pictures or videos of the inside of the old SM entrance before it became the entrance for fastpasses? :)

Vekoma have produced another looping coaster train which accomodates an on board audio system. Its for the Speed of Sound Boomerang at Walbi World/Holland.

Maybe we should point that out to DLP.... ;)

And the new train for Walibi has new restraints that are a lot more comfortable. So trains like that would be a great addition for SM.

It's something to consider for Mission 3, then. :P

Ah yes, Space Mountain: Mission 3. Mission 2 actually brought some positive changes, such as the lower launching point in the cannon, and some of the lighting effects inside the mountain. But there's obviously still room for improvement. So I'd like to see Mission 3 contain:

• The return of Steve Bramson's excellent original soundtrack, from 1995
• All new trains (like those used on Speed of Sound) with these less restrictive, more comfortable restraints
• A return to the original Jules Verne victorian theming, with a pre-show video clearly set in the past (not at all futuristic)

If there was a mission 3, I'd expect it to be a mission to Mars or Pluto (which is not a reference to that old MM joke :P ). Especially Mars, since we'll be going there in less than 50 years time.
