I think it's great that the users of this forum come from different countries with different languages...

We should use that for a question that interests me: What are the translations for all of the Disney Characters?! I can give the German answers, I start with... Sleeping Beauty, which I watched two hours ago ;)

Sleeping Beauty = DORNRÖSCHEN
König Hubert & Prinz Phillip = ???
König Stefan = ???

Die drei Feen/the three fairys:
Flora, Fauna & Sonnenschein = ???

Der Bösewicht/the villain:
Malefiz = Maleficent (?)

:) These are the English answers for the ones with question marks...

König Hubert & Prinz Phillip = King Hubert and Prince Phillip
König Stefan = King Stefan
Flora, Fauna & Sonnenschein = Flora, Fauna and Merryweather

:P This is a cute idea...

:D Can you tell me if there's a German translation for Cheshire Cat in Alice in Wonderland?

In Dutch:

Sleeping Beauty = Doornroosje
König Hubert & Prinz Phillip = Koning Hubert & Prins Philip
König Stefan = Koning Stefan

Die drei Feen/the three fairys:
Flora, Fauna & Sonnenschein = Flora, Fauna & Mooiweertje

Der Bösewicht/the villain:
Malefiz = Malafide

Great, thank you for your answers ;) The Dutch name for "Sonnenschein" is really sweet! But Merryweather sounds sweet, too!

Yeah, I've seen "Alice im Wunderland" yesterday--the first time since I'm older, I guess the last time I saw the film was when I was about 9 or 10 years ;)! I always thought, Cheshire Cat would be "Grinsekatze" (grinning cat) in German, but the Disney Translation is just "Tigerkatze" ( =tiger cat)  :cheshire_bounce: What does the word "Cheshire" mean?

Others from Alice, hmm.... the rabbit is called "Herr Karnickel" ;) Mad Hatter is called "der verrückte Hutmacher" in German, the twins are "Diddeldi & Diddeldam" or so ;)

Okay, I guess Snow White has funny translations though:

GERMAN:

Snow White = Schneewittchen
the Seven Dwarfs (= die Sieben Zwerge):

Chef
Pimpel
Seppl
Brummbär
Hatschi
Schlafmütze
Happy ( I guess that's just Happy, too ;) )

:) Alice in Wonderland is actually a book written by a British author, and the author's home county is Cheshire. :P There are many other theories though as to what inspired the author to create such a character, if you're curious... :lol: *Just had to get that in there*

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Cheshire_Cat

:D You can read them all here!

^_^ And thanks so much for all those Alice in Wonderland translations, they're so interesting!

:shock: *Stares at the 7 Dwarves* XD I can't even guess the meaning of any of those apart from Happy! :) But just so you know, these are the 7 Dwarves in English...

Doc
Dopey
Grumpy
Sneezy
Bashful
Happy
Sleepy

Oh, okay, thanks for the link--I wondered coz I haven't found the meaning of the word Cheshire, but that's a cool idea ;)

Hehe let's find out which dwarf could have which German name (also other languages are welcome :) ):

Happy = Happy  :lol:
Grumpy = Brummbär (coz grumpy means something... hm... moody?)
Sneezy = Hatschi
Sleepy = Schlafmütze (= "sleeping cap")

hm... I think
Doc = Chef ( = chief)
But Bashful and Dopey, what could that be with Pimpel and Seppl remaining... Seppl is the one that cannot speak and Pimpel the shy guy ;)

I wonder which film could have different translations, too? Because f.e. the Lion King or Pocahontas have got same names so far...

Lady & the Tramp = Susi und Strolch

The Jungle Book = Das Dschungelbuch with Balu, Mogli, Baghira...

ooh, I know:

The Beauty & the Beast = Die Schöne und das Biest with:
Belle
Biest
Maurice, Phillippe
Gaston, Lefou
Monsieur von Unruh
Lumière
Madame Pottine & Tassilo

:P Ah, well Bashful is the shy one and Dopey is the one who can't speak...

:D Yay for figuring stuff out!

Balu, Mogli, Baghira = Baloo, Mowgli, Bagheera

Biest = Beast
Madame Pottine & Tassilo = I assume that's Mrs Potts (or Mrs Pots, I can't remember if it's 1 T or 2) and Chip
Monsieur von Unruh = If that's the clock, then his name is Cogsworth

^______^ I'm loving guessing/doing these translations!

Dutch:

Beauty & the Beast = Belle en het Beest
Belle, Maurice, Phillippe, Gaston, Lefou, Lumière = the same

Cogsworth = Pendule

Madame Pottine  = Mevrouw Tuit

Tassilo = Barstje

Cool, thank you two for your cooperation ;)! Hmmm.... I wonder which film could have different translations, too? Maybe the Disney/Pixar ones?

Toy Story

Woody
Buzz Lightyear
Porzellinchen (the sheep girl)
Charly Naseweis (the potatoe)
Slinky

um.. well, I guess these names aren't that different though ;) What about... the Incredibles?

The Incredibles = Die Unglaublichen

Mr & Mrs Incredible
Violetta
Flash
Jackjack
Frozone
Syndrom

Hey, they aren't very different, too  ](*,) Any ideas?!

Edit: What about our good, old toons?

Mickey Mouse = Micky Maus (but I like the "e" in Mickey better)
Chip and Dale = A-Hörnchen & B-Hörnchen
... is that all? *g*

XP You would think Disney/Pixar would get sued for calling him Flash in any language, considering that's the name of a DC Comics hero who also has super-speed...

"Knabbel en Babbel" are the sweetest names I've ever heard ;)

And the Spanish names sound really noble, cool! Never thought that Cinderella would have other translations!

I guess many character names from now on could be the same, maybe I remember a different one later... so we could translate the films names... or... Masamune could do that, do you want to? :)

1.) Dornröschen

2.) Cap und Capper

3.) Der König der Löwen

4.) Die Kühe sind los

5.) Die Hexe und der Zauberer

6.) Das große Krabbeln

That's it for now, have fun ;)!
