The film's soundtrack is quite weird in the ride at WDW.  Especially at the Wicked Wench scene, they used the main "tatata" theme, but a very slow version, making the scene look soooo boring.   :?

The other thing to remember is that we are all big Disney fans. There are still many people who visit a Disney park for the first time, and only associate with the film. On going on the ride a large portion of people are no doubt slighlty let down/confused. Im not saying they are right, I love the ride, always have, but to some people it may need updating

Yeah, you're right.  I think there might be 3 things which made DLRP suddenly do this:
1) Guests asking at City Hall or wherever "why isn't Jack in the ride?!"
2) Jay Rasulo and/or Buena Vista Intl showing DLRP the effect the changes had on the US versions and convincing them
3) Tokyo are getting the AAs, so if DLRP get them sooner rather than later it'll be cheaper, as well as cashing in on the 3rd film

OR they've known about this for months but kept it as a crazy surprise! :lol:

Does anyone know yet exactly what changes we are getting? From memory, I understand that DLR's update was far more extensive than WDW's. Wonder if the same situation will happen again between us and the cash rich TDL?!

Either way, after seein the Jack Sparrow AA on Utube, im all for it to be honest. Even more so the projection on the hill. Hey, imagine if we got the rummoured Will Turner and Elizabeth Swan AA's too!

Personally I'm really looking forward to this update. I think its fantastic news. I've seen the revamped Orlando version of the ride, and although their ride is quite pale compared to ours, I was quite impressed by the new animatronics. Jack Sparrow and Barbossa were the best animatronics I've ever seen. And the best part of the story is, at least as far as I can judge, the enhancements add to the experience, they don't ruin it. I am often sceptical about changes, but when done in a right way it doesn't matter. Disneyland is not a museum. The changes at Pirates seem to be quality changes, nothing like Space Mountain: Mission 2.

Besides that, it would be weird to keep the 1992 version. I mean, since the movies, "Pirates of the Caribbean" is a worldwide brand. When people go on the ride, they simply expect to see at least Jack Sparrow because he is such a popular and remarkable character. The public wants to see him, so Disney would be stupid if they didn't make money out of this. Ofcourse, just like many of you I am against commercialising Pirates, but like I said, when Sparrow is added in a right way, I dont mind. Remember that they only add a few animatronics, not much else will change. Its still the same attraction.

When you think about it, Jack Sparrow, Captain Barbossa and even Davy Jones are now all part of the Pirates of the Caribbean universe, if you like it or not. Although they weren't originally there, they were introduced to the public and the public embraced them. When you can choose between a bland stereotype pirate captain at the Wicked Wench and an elaborate Captain Barbossa on the Wicked Wench, which one would you choose? People who have seen the movies will recognise him, for others the animatronics will still be as unrecognisable as before.

Here are some pics;

If you would like to see the enhanced version of Orlando, please take a look at //http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JzPus1Iuga0. The Anaheim version seems to be better I read somewhere. By the way, if you listen closely to the music in the background, you can hear the movie soundtrack (during the Barbossa part of the clip).

I was just thinking, is it smart to open this upgraded version now? I mean, with all those new attraction this year, wouldnt it be smarter to spread it a bit more over the years? On the other hand, with "At Worlds End" on the way, its now time to make some money.  :wink:

Whilst I'm very excited about this (and can't believe it's all going to happen so quickly!), my main problem is that the Jack Sparrow animatronic looks so real whereas some of the older ones...well, not so much.  I remember watching the YouTube video when the changes first took place and Jack just looked a little out of place.

Can't wait to see it though!

I have been on both the Walt Disney World version and the Disneyland version of the new Pirates. The DL version is way better overall- including sound effects, etc- , but the last Sparrow figure is better in Florida. Can't wait to see Paris' version!
