Ooh those Speed of Sound trains look good. Much better than the silly old Vekoma bucket seats.

Personally I hope there's no true "Mission 3" but a reimagining that goes back to the original story as Alan says. The moon is a fantastic destination because it's truly within the Verne thinking - "Not impossible, just improbable". It's attainable, within our reach, and that I think actually makes it much more exciting than a supernova or Mars. It's ironic that Mission 2 came during a period of Imagineering where they (or perhaps management) self-consciously began to fret about everything needing to be "relevant" to the audience, as if the ten year period between 1995 and 2005 had suddenly seen a 130-year old novel become useless. Actually, the supernova and all that in Mission 2 isn't really relevant at all, but the moon is. Every single one of us sees it practically every day from our bedroom window!

It was when the balance tipped from improbable (Le Visionarium) to impossible (Buzz Lightyear) that Discoveryland lost its sense of direction. In fact, now that I think about it, maybe that's why I like the WALL-E statues but cringe more at Laser Blast with each day: WALL-E robots might actually happen. Toys having interplanetary battles in fictional gamma quadrants won't.

So yeah, bring back the bloody moon! And get us there without bruising. :-)

Actually, having the moon back as the destination would be pretty good. It shouldn't be exactly the same as before, of course. It would be good to see some new effects. :)

Let's brainstorm some potential names for the new attraction.

Here are some serious ones:

• Space Mountain: Return To The Moon
• Space Mountain: Back To The Moon

And here are some silly ones:

• Space Mountain: From The Earth Back To The Bloody Moon
• Space Mountain: Back To The Moon, Suckers
• Space Mountain: From The Earth To The Moon, Without Bruising
• Space Mountain: Now With Good Music Again
• Space Mountain: Jules Strikes Back
• Space Mountain: Revenge Of The Verne

How about:

• Space Mountain: This Time There's A Story
• Space Mountain: Now Less Hip And Edgy
• Space Mountain: Kindly On Loan From The Walt Disney Company
• Space Mountain: Mission 2 Minus 1
• Space Mountain: As It Was Meant To Be Seen
• Space Mountain: Featuring WALL-E!
• Discovery Mountain: Sod The Marketing Department, This Is What We Want To Call It

My serious one would be:

• Space Mountain: De la Terre à la Lune

With "De la Terre à la Lune" actually on the entrance marquee.

That´s exactly the point! They went away from improbable to impossible. It sounds quiet simple but it really describe their fault very well. I also want to see it going back to the moon again. The super nova thing doesn´t fit. And much of the effects...sorry...but they were dated on opening day of mission 2. Mission one with its heavy story line even don´t needed BIG effects to get the people thinking flying to the moon. It was a master piece of imagineering. I remember quiet well the disapointment when I first rode mission 2. Reflecting light on the show building ceiling. A bad screen showing an explosion. A red disco chain of lights (same we used for some garden party over here...). Really bad soundtrack. And that it was. I wasn´t in space anymore. I was clearly in a show building that could stayed somewhere else.

Hope we see Mission 1 one glory day again.

That would be a dream come true  :!:
Jules Verne and "De la terre à la lune" were just awesome...

I hope I'm wrong, but before we get "De La Terre a La Lune" back, we will see toons added to the ride.

Agreed, I remember a cast member friend of mine when Mission 2 relaunched, he knew I was at the opening at Space Mountain in 95, he loaded us in and said "stay behind when you get off". As we got off, he said "how was it". I said, rough still and raped. He laughed and then said "let's see if we can sort it for you".  Every trip round, we would come back and he saved us a seat (it was at night and quite quiet), we got to try every seat config in the train (an hour of riding pretty much non stop). Still couldn't find the love. But it was amazing to ride so many times without queing.

Still, I want the original and Le Visionarium back. Discoveryland has lost it's heart and soul. So has a lot of Frontierland too. As well as Adventureland.
since 2001 (many before that)

I think you  can already say the whole Disneyland Park has lost its soul. My heart is bleeding when I think back to how Disneyland once was and how it is today...

yep....same for all the other Disney parks around the globe too, though DLP has fallen the furthest.

Unfortunately that's true and I wish I would have experienced the early years of DLRP.

In my opinion TDR shouldn't mentioned here, although the toons are invading the most beautiful themepark, too.

Is it ok if I share the "Disneyland Paris Space Mountain CD Promo" album here on this forum? It's a 20 track CD that Disney put together in 1995, presumably to help promote the new ride. It's not something that was ever sold.

Well, since no-one replied to this post, I thought I'd post the link:

I found some really good Space Mountain videos, which I believe are quite rare. Go to this page and click on EBC - DLP07_52. Engineer Mike Kent gives you a guided tour of all the different parts of a Space Mountain train. They look really clean and well engineered, so god knows why they produce such a rough ride!
