I'd really like to see 2 pics, one of the old, and one of the new, because whilst it looks fresh, its kind of hard to tell the difference really.

The castle is looking very beautiful, it certainly looks magical like a fairy tale castle should. I assume the gold gradation on the front turret is still going. I know it's not finished yet.

Quote from: "pussinboots"I'm just itching to say this, and I feel bad about it, haha.

I like it much better than the 1998 version, but it's still a sugar cake. The 1992 version looked realistic in a fantastical sort of way, like the materials were truly copper and stone. This looks like Wilton-brand cake icing. By no stretch of the imagination would a medieval anything be this blue, not even in an Eyvind Earle painting.

But compared to the most recent incarnation, it's a huge improvement.

Exactly. That´s what I meant with their choose of the proper shiny white instead of a more natural/sandy stone look.
It´s a lot better than 1998 but it´s not the 1992 "real fantasy castle" version. You clearly see it as a dream castle but not as the castle where sleeping beauty really lives.

But great to see the castle shine again.

Do we know whether they'll be aging the paintwork at some point (darkening the edges, etc.)? Or does it no longer need to look old and venerable as part of a new concept?

I am so happy its nearly finished!!

When I heard that they were refurbishing it I panicked a bit because wasn't sure if it was going to be done by August! By the looks of it, it is tho!

Was just worried because I'm going in August with a few people who have never been before and wanted it to be amazing for their first time there!

What is the other side looking like now? Have they put the missing turrets back on now?

[strike:7lx44wfg]One of the golden turrets is back in, but it's not... well... gold. As for the other one, it's still disappeared.

Speaking of which, has anyone noticed that the snails on them have disappeared?[/strike:7lx44wfg]

EDIT: Sorry, I got mixed up. All this time, I thought that the white turret was one of the golden ones. XD No, both of the turrets are still gone.

I didn't think they'd get the sides done so quickly. I'm not entirely sure why they're saying that it'll be done by August, because from the looks of it, all of it will be done by mid-June!

Just to be clear: the refurb is not yet done. The scarfolding may be gone on the front side, but they are going to continue the refurb on every side. They are using a crane after opening hours to refurb the rest of the castle. They need to repaint at least 3 roofs (which you pointed out), and two small towers (of which one is complete gone for a refurb in gold) on the front side. The back and side of the castle remains behind scarfolding.

This has really got me thinking, now. If it's almost done, then what will they use the extra few months for?
