What are your top 5 Disney Animated Classics?

Just to qualify, I'm not talking Pixar, and I'm not talking Disney sequels or live action here. I'm talking about the Animated Classics which were made by Walt Disney Feature Animation.

By the way, I didn't put this in polls because there are too many options at the moment, once it's brought down a bit to more of a consensus on which are the best, it can run in polls.

We're basically looking at:-

Snow White
Pinocchio
Fantasia
Dumbo
Bambi
Saludos Amigos
The Three Caballeros
Make Mine Music
Melody Time
Fun and Fancy Free
The Adventures of Ichabod and Mr. Toad
Cinderella
Alice in Wonderland
Peter Pan
Lady and the Tramp
Sleeping Beauty
101 Dalmatians
The Sword in the Stone
The Jungle Book
Robin Hood
The Many Adventures of Winnie the Pooh
The Rescuers
The Fox and the Hound
The Black Cauldron
The Great Mouse Detective
Oliver and Company
The Little Mermaid
The Rescuers Down Under
Beauty and the Beast
Aladdin
The Lion King
Pocahontas
The Hunchback of Notré Dame
Hercules
Mulan
Tarzan
Fantasia 2000
The Emperor's New Groove
Atlantis
Treasure Planet
Lilo and Stitch
Brother Bear
Home on the Range
Chicken Little
Meet the Robinson's

I think that's all the eligible movies. Once we've got a decent number of responses, I'll look at compiling the votes. Please order your choices, favourite first.

For me, it's:-

1. Beauty and the Beast
2. The Little Mermaid
3. The Lion King
4. Aladdin
5. Sleeping Beauty

Yes, I really like Pocahontas, and I think it's underrated. It's very arty, and I think it shares more than a passing resemblance to Sleeping Beauty, with it's angular characters and straight lines. But I think SB did it first and is a gorgeous film, almost poetic, which I've come to appreciate more as I've got older. Pocahontas is a grand musical though with some awesome showstopping tunes.

6. Pocahontas
7. Tarzan
8. Hunchback
9. The Jungle Book
10. Cinderella (come to appreciate this much more in more recent years)

Okay, starting to tally the votes.

Here's how I'm working this.

1 = 5 pts, 2 = 4 pts, 3 = 3pts etc. - then totalling points from each person across all the films.

So, the countdown at the moment is:-

9. Sleeping Beauty (1 vote)
8. Tarzan (2 votes)
6. Joint:-
    Peter Pan (4 votes)
    Pocahontas (4 votes)
5. Aladdin (6 votes)
3. Joint:-
    Snow White (8 votes)
    The Little Mermaid (8 votes)
2. The Lion King (12 votes)

and the winner so far:-

1. Beauty and the Beast (14 votes) :belle:

10. Sleeping Beauty (1 point)
8.   Joint:-
     The Jungle Book (5 points)
     Pocahontas (5 points)
7.  Aladdin (6 points)
6.  Tarzan (5 points)
5.  Peter Pan (7 points)
4.  The Little Mermaid (8 points)
3.  Snow White (11 points)
2.  Beauty and the Beast (19 points)
1.  The Lion King (20 points)

Very close for first place between Beauty and the Beast and The Lion King. This doesn't surprise me, and I think it's always going to be between these two films. I know there are a few Beauty supporters out there, so get your votes in. :)

I think this could go either way between these two at any given time to be honest. Surprised to see Pocahontas making it in there. I'm also surprised to see Snow White doing so highly, yet no appearance for Cinderella. Also surprised at the lack of support for 101 Dalmatians, Fantasia, Pinocchio, Lady and the Tramp and Bambi. Makes you question the selection of Platinum Edition titles a bit.

Still, there's a lot more people to vote yet. I thought The Little Mermaid might be doing a bit better, with the DVD released last year, but I'm not particularly surprised to see Peter Pan doing well on the back of the recent platinum edition.

Really don't see how you can rate The Lion King up at 1 and Beauty and the Beast at 5.

We're talking the only animated movie that's ever been nominated for a best picture oscar.

I think The Lion King only does so well because of the Broadway show, it's inclusion at DLRP and it's buoyed because of the media hype and box office success. It probably wins out amongst the younger members too because of it's cutesy animals and more anarchic attributes.

Never really rated Fantasia that highly, it's far too artsy for it's own good, and parts of it are extremely tedious. I much prefer Fantasia 2000 actually, I love the Steadfast Tin Soldier, the Donald Duck segment and the Firebird Suite.

Still, there's a massive gap between Beauty and the Beast and the third place which is currently Snow White. I still think The Lion King and Beauty are neck and neck for first place.

Very, very, very bizarre choices!  :?

I'm relying on Ailsa, Kurgly and Atlantica to come in here quickly and vote sensibly.

:)
