Here is a video of the ride: http://www.elecindustrie.com/INT/smm2web.avi

You can hear the soundtrack of the ride rather good. What do you think of it?
I don't like it at all. Please don't say that i can't judge because i only saw a video. I haven't been on the first SM either, so also from that one i only saw videos and heard the soundtrack. And i really liked that one. The new soundtrack sounds far to modern for this ride (it sounds like a bad detective) and my opinion is that the whole magical atmosphere has gone too. I really had hoped it would be something like the first one, but then different.   :(

Thanks for the video!

This is by no means a verdict on the attraction as a whole but rather the music and how I believe it fits the Victorian (??!) theme of the attraction.  And you know what?  I HATE it.  I absolutely blummin' HATE it!!!   It's not bad music but it's just SO different from the old music that it really makes me laugh.

You know what makes me laugh the most?  Now that I think about it, it fits the ride!  In a really weird, twisted kind of way it really does fit, even with all the Victorian stuff... It's even got quite a lot of charm to it, and certainly seems to add to the excitement of the mission.

At the moment though, I still absolutely hate it as much as I try not to.  It just isn't grand enough or epic enough for an attraction like this.  OK, it's fast-paced and really quite cool, but it just really doesn't seem right.

I'll probably 100% love it when I finally get to do the ride myself, but from what I've seen of photos and videos of the ride... something is missing.  There's that touch or that spark of magic that just doesn't seem to be there.  I know sitting at home watching this stuff is most definately not like being there, but I am starting to quite dislike the "feel" of the ride now.

It is actually really hard to give an opinion and not judge the ride, and since I've waffled enough and given about 50 different opinions already I think I should stop now...    I'll wait to use the words "I HATE IT" with full meaning until I actually ride the damn thing, and until them I'm certainly looking forward to Raptor and flor's return, with perhaps a little bit of fear aswell...  :?

You really think it fits the ride? I've listened to it many times now, without watching the video. And the music is not that bad. But i just don't like it. And when i watch it together with the video, it just doesn't seem right. I'm missing something in it, can't describe what exactly. But that other soundtrack fitted so well with the area music too. Are they going to change that too? I hope not.  :(

Yeah, the music itself is actually quite good, and I do believe it fits this ride.  Unfortunately that's the problem though - it's given the ride a whole new personality.  Gone is the classical, epic feeling of the first mission and in comes some kind of modern action movie rollercoaster that wouldn't feel out of place in WDS.  Of course, I'm overstepping the mark there and judging before I've been on it, but as I said the feeling and personality of the old ride is completely gone, which I actually really wasn't expecting.  I stick by what I said that the music fits the ride though - it's just a shame that I think they actually changed the ride too much!

Yeah, you're absolutely right.  From those videos it really is missing something.  Where's the music as you head to the cannon?  And why does the music at the end sound so generic and uninspiring after such an amazing space adventure?  In fact, the whole score sounds incredibly generic and really rather boring.  I doubt I'll want to listen to it as much as I've listened to the old soundtrack.  It just doesn't seem to have a proper theme or a certain sound to it.  It's kindof 50% action movie 40% The Incredibles and 10% the old music, and it just seems really out of place in "our" mountain.

Even though the ride has changed so much, I think if you ride SM:M2 with SM's music then the feeling would still be there.  And so, I'm afriad I've got to come to the conclusion that this actually isn't that good a piece of music afterall.  Sure, if SM:M2 was a totally new ride then the music would be great and the whole thing would be amazing... but when you think back to the first Mission... it definately seems to have lost something.

(again, sorry for the indecisive post - to summarise:
- i like the music
- i dont like what it does to the ride
- it does however fit the ride, and I think that's what I dont like: the new "personality" of the ride.)

I'm sure I'll get over it, or change my opinion again within 5mins...

Well, it took 14mins, but I have changed my opinion and calmed down now.  It's just such a shock to hear such a truly dramatic change in the style of music!

I shouldn't really have posted my opinion of what I've seen (and heard!) in that video so soon.  I've watched it a few more times now, and also even watched a video of the original ride.  From what I can see, the ride has been improved no end.  It really does look incredible now.  Just small little things like the cannon being in the dark, the red lights behind the train as it launches, etc. are all so good.

And so, from what I've seen so far, the only thing which does really disappoint me is the music.  Basically, it isn't as good as I expected.  Whilst I do believe it fits the ride, I think it's really not the best Giacchino could have done.  I stick by with what I said about it fitting the ride, though.  It really does, and it gives it a whole new atmosphere that I'm slowly getting used to.

I don't hate the look of the ride, I just wish they'd have used the same person to make the ride music as the one who did the trailer music.  Now THAT would have been awesome!  :D

When I next ride SM I don't think it's going to go down in my opinion, infact I think I'll like it probably more than twice as much.  The only thing is - it could have gone up even more!  Damn music!

The ride is awesome!!!!
And except for the Columbiad and the Velocitor, there is nothing Victorian about the ride :'(.
BUT The special effects are great except the Supernova!!
The Hypergate and comets are just so stunning.
A piece of the old Fast Pass hall is now used for the queuing lines.

The music: It's quite modern, but it really fits well with the total new concept of Space Mountain.

It's all in a modern way.

The screens with the warning video are high tech flat screens. Pictures later today! ;-)

Nice to hear something positive!!!! So at least the ride is great!

About what Anthony said about the music. I think that's what's making us all so disappointed: that great trailer music!!!! For some reason i knew that it wouldn't be exactly like that, but i did expect something that sounded a bit like it. :( (Some sort of adventurous theme, like you're in a movie yourself.)

I'm really glad you like it so much.  It does look like an incredible ride, and I think the main reason for my negativity when I saw that video yesterday was that I was simply so stunned at just how different Space Mountain is now.  It didn't seem like they were changing a lot of the ride, but seeing that video it did seem like a completely different ride and I truly was shocked!

Now though, I'm really loving it.  It still looks to have a few Victorian elements there, and isn't totally modern at all.  It's sort of rock n rollercoaster meets de la terre a la lune, which seems to work surprisingly well.  I don't think it'll age too badly like the first ride either, since it's so full of effects now that as long as they keep them all working it'll still be just as good as it sounds in 10 years.

I can't wait to see your photos now flor, I'm totally in love with the ride... though still fairly unsure on the music to be honest!

As a huge Space Mountain fan, I really have to admit that I like this new version!!  It's not better, simply because you can't compare both versions...

Mission 2 is a modern version of De la Terre a la lune, it has lost most of it's Victorian style, but it has still a few points reffering to Mission 1, like the drawing of the Cannon in the queing area, the Baltimore Gun Club logo and so on...

On-Ride Music Download!

You can download an excellent recording of the SM:M2 on-board music here:

Now that I can fully hear it, I actually really quite like it.  As a piece of music it's actually surprisingly good.  Whereas originally I thought it sounded too generic and just like "any other action movie", now I can really hear the proper style and themes in there, which are not bad at all!

I definately agree now that it doesn't fit with Space Mountain, but then I'm prepared to accept that our Space Mountain is different now.  It's Mission 2 - it's new, it's faster, it goes further and most definately gives more of a WOW!

I think it's time to once again say "well done DLRP!!".  They could have messed this up so badly, but it has all turned out superbly in the end!  Even the music won me over eventually!

I've listened to the soundtrack now for several times. And it really is not bad, but i still don't like it!
However i can see now that it fits the ride and this soundtrack will fasten it. So i guess it was needed for this 'new' ride. But the difference between the first soundtrack is that you could listen to it as a soundtrack on its own and like it without needing to ride the attraction. With this new one i think it's not a soundtrack you just listen to, it's just part of the whole attraction and experience.
