It's been rumoured but now seems official - Cinemagique is to close at the end of March with a new show due to the open in 2018.

Clearly Marvel themed from the way the announcement has been made.

Whilst it's great to see something new (Cinemagique has been there a LONG time) and Marvel themeing is a great idea for the studios, I will miss it and it's a pity it'll not be there for the 25th celebrations.

Hopefully they do as good a replacement here as they did when they made Mickey and the Magician.

If this is the first step towards overhauling the backlot area, I'm all for it.

Yup. I have no problems with Marvel stuff appearing in the Studios at all. That's where it fits. I'd like to see the whole area properly themed around that to give it some coherence.

Armageddon, the tram tours, the car show... all could be refitted and re-themed.

My only concerns are that they don't touch the two great rides in that area - RnR and ToT.

I'm indifferent to CineMagique. I'm not disappointed at its closure, however I do have concerns about just sticking a Marvel show in there.

The rsik is that we'll just get a B-roll clip show with frills. Hopefully it'll be more than that though.

Heck, why not keep the Studio 2 building but add to it. There's a nice expansion pad to the side, that could be used for another attraction.... *cough* Iron Man Experience *cough* *splutter*

Allegedly, it may be live action, similar to the Pirates of the Caribbean stunt show in Shanghai.

The fact it's closing for at least 9 months suggests they'll do more than just a clip show. That would be a long time to be closed just to put in new clips and fix up the current effects. I wouldn't be surprised to see it have more live elements and more effects.

I think Cinemagique was an utterly charming show and I always loved watching it but I'm excited to see what they can do with it considering the quality of the recent show replacement in the studios.

Why couldn't they just update cinemagique? My hubby is a huge marvel & star wars fan but he is strongly against this, they swamping the parks with too much of these genres. He, and I agree, thinks this is not Disney Disney and may not stand the test of time like traditional Disney does which could result in less attendance maybe. They are big at the moment but I guess only time will tell. I'm personally a little disappointed & put off & so are my kids but hey, I just won't visit that area as much  :)

If they add much more non-Disney Disney stuff they're going to have to change the name of the parks!  I get there are a lot of Star Wars and Marvel fans but equally there are lots of us who aren't, who prefer Disney Disney to non-Disney Disney!  That's the whole reason for me going there. I think it's a real shame they stopped Stars'n'Cars - I loved that - it's where I had my profile pic taken in 2014 :-) I'm looking forward to my trip in September, mainly for the 25th anniversary celebrations, but will see what happens in future years.  If this carries on I won't be returning after this year's visit.

Agree  :)

Slimy yet satisfying

Yup. Disney is Disney. Star Wars and Marvel are not. We will not renew our passes this time. Their 25th year is our 25th year of visiting and looks like our last with increasing prices of AP, likelyhood of shareholder club disolving and less "tradtional" Disney magic...not a big enough draw. We will head elsewhere.

Tbf, Star Wars is 40 years old. Marvel comics are over 50 years old. These aren't exactly flash in the pan franchises. And DLP needs higher attendance which these sorts of attractions will undoubtedly help with considering their popularity.

I'd be happy if the left hand side of the park became a coherent land about the live action movies and the right stayed all about the toons. Toy Story Playland and Ratatouille are fabulous areas but the other side of the park really needs some work. If they're going to put in things about the live action films then Marvel and Star Wars are the best bet as they will stand the test of time. No one wants another Armageddon!

Is there enough room in the show building / on the stage as it is for a stunt show?

Studio 2 is quite small.

BIB:  It might have the opposite effect though - people who aren't fans of those franchises might stop going.  I've read on various websites people saying this.  Also I see I'm not the only person on this site who feels the same.  But we shall see.

I understand how old they are but they were enjoyed by only  a specific group of people, my hubby being one and took a lot of stick for this over the years, they are being enjoyed by so many more now but I wonder for just how long and will it return to how it was before.
