Theres an excellant podcast called Mousetalgia, which is about Disneyland and DCA in California, and they talked about the Star Tours II in thier latest episode.
I healily reccomend every Disney fan checks it out. Its really fantastic and funny. Its run (in part) by the gentleman who runs Doombuggies.com (The Haunted Mansion fan-site). They often get Imagineers in to talk and also get lots of exclusive tours and trips to D23 events and Studio tours.
Anyway yeah - check it out. They talk about the new Star Tours.

I have heard a rumour (and only a rumour,mind you) that ST II will be relocated to the Studios in Backlot to free up space in Discoveryland. Anyone know if this is true or speculation?

It would be better to put Buzz Lightyear Laser Blast into WDS instead of Star Tours. BLYLB ruins the Jules Verne and H.G. Wells Discovery theme of Discoveryland. Pixar shouldn't be in Discoveryland. Don't get me wrong, I love the ride but it should be relocated instead of ST.

Disney has announced the official closing dates for Star Tours, via the Disney Parks Blog:

Scheduled to open in 2011, the power of the Force and the magic of Disney once again will combine to create an all-new Star Tours. When it reopens, it'll feature a new 3-D, immersive experience that'll take guests to familiar places in the Star Wars galaxy. To prepare for the reopening, Star Tours will close at Disneyland Park on July 27 and at Disney's Hollywood Studios on September 8.

Star Tours: The Adventures Continue

While it may not open until the fall of 2011, a few exciting elements of the reimagined Star Tours were announced.

- The enhanced attraction — featuring multiple destinations — takes place in between the two Star Wars trilogies, which will enable Imagineers to utilize characters from both sets of films.

- While the planet of Tatooine was unveiled as a destination at last year's D23 Expo, Walt Disney Imagineering Senior Show Producer Kathy Rogers announced that the bustling urban environment of Coruscant will be another.

- There will be several points during each journey where the audience will be able to change where the story is going. "There's an incredible number of different variations," explains Al Weiss, president, Worldwide Operations, Walt Disney Parks and Resorts. "You will rarely, if ever, see the same show twice. And it's all in 3D.

So the ride's going to be called Star Tours: The Adventures Continue.

I wonder how the audience will change where the story is going? Will you have to all shout "left" or "right" at certain points? Will you have to raise your right hand or your left hand? Perhaps there'll just be simple voting buttons built into each rider's arm rest. Either way, it's going to be so much more interesting riding Star Tours, not knowing where the flight is going to take you or what you're going to see.

Ok.... *Puts on Star Wars nerd hat*

I've been dreading for this to be confirmed, and for it to be based on that almost pointless to the saga pod race.

Regarding the queue line i'd expect it to change, being as we're jumping trilogys.

Well, I wasn't exactly right about when this is set but I wasn't exactly a million miles away.  Being as it's based between Ep. III and IV (a period which is slowly starting to become a cliche, be careful Lucas!) we're still going backwards with a sequel.  Even though it's not going to be called Star Tours II it still is a sequel, otherwise they would have called it "The Adventures Begin".

Another little thing (although I could be wrong with it, my Star Wars knowledge isn't exactly of Yoda standards) wasn't this III-IV gap the time when Vader and his Stormtroopers where causing havoc around the galaxy trying to finish off the jedi?  In that case then surely for safety the Star Tours program would have been grounded?  In Star Tours 1 it made sense because it's based after RotJ so it was believe the Empire was gone and the galaxy was safe, so Star Tours could start up again.  I would assume then in ST:TAC we're going to have Tie Fighter battles and destruction in any planet that has a high population, right?

Saying that I'm not entirely shunning this, I've recently finally seen a few seconds of real 3D for the first time on a TV and I was impressed so the idea of 3D (being done correctly) here interests me, as does the alternative destinations, that was something I thought we'd never see.

Last year, Disney Parks fans learned that "The Adventures Continue" with the return of a new Star Tours attraction in both California and Florida in 2011. Earlier today at the Star Wars Celebration V fan event, Star Wars fans caught a first glimpse of a new video that will appear in the queue area of the reimagined Star Tours attraction in Disneyland park and Disney's Hollywood Studios next year. The video produced by Star Tours is a new "commercial" that shows one of their exciting getaway travel packages.

Today we're also giving our Disney Parks Blog readers a peek at the video before it appears in the queue next year. While Star Tours now offers flights to new destinations, we cannot confirm that you will travel to any of the destinations shown in this video . . .

Since many Disney Parks fans know the new Star Tours attraction will take place between the two sets of Star Wars Trilogies, and that Star Tours can now take guests to more places in the Star Wars galaxy, what do you think of this video? Is there a destination you hope to visit on the new attraction when it opens next year?

Cool video, still however think it's a bad idea going backwards in the story sense with this especially for the reasons mentioned in an old post above.  Saying that I do love the fact there's going to be multiple destinations, let's hope the three in the video aren't the only possible endings though (c'mon who doesn't want to visit Kashyyyk and the Wookiees )

Also, I laughed at the fact Alderaan has been voted the "safest planet in the galaxy", nice little nudge and wink to us Star Wars Nerds
