I imagine that no one will agree with what I'm going to say here (eek!), BUT! I actually think the lighting is pretty spot on in Phantom Manor -- there are a few lights (especially in the wallpaper) that don't work, so I guess once those are fixed, it will be pretty spot on.

I like that it's dark enough to obscure the ceiling of the show building but I do think it's sad that so much of the detail is lost - like I said the breathing door can hardly be seen and there's elements of the set dressing that are invisible. I don't think they're going to add more lighting, just update the technology so it stays at a good level permanently - it was definitely brighter in there when I first rode it 10 years + ago!

QuoteAlso hoping they'll make it so it can have the Xmas overlay during the xmas period (I reckon they will). Imagine how amazing outside of the Manor would look with dying holly and garlands?! It would be epic!

I'm 50/50 on the Xmas overlay - I think the NBC version of Haunted Mansion is great but does it work with the dark theme of our PM? I'm undecided how I'd feel about it.

If they do I can't see them doing it this year because it's only reopening mid October and they won't re-close it for an overlay so soon.

Disappointed to see such curt, rude remarks from a Disney fan, and a previous cast member no less, too!!

Anyway, does anyone know when the refurb begins? Will it be during Summer? I assume Autumn reopening means October sometime! Our next trip is end of September so it sounds like it'll be closed then! I'm just hoping that POTC will be open this time when we visit (haven't seen it since it's refurb)! All these refurb updates are very exciting! X

The refurb has already started - the show building is currently wrapped in scaffold and the area around it is closed off. The aim is for it to be reopened by Halloween week at the latest but there's no exact reopening date yet which I can understand - they don't give them until they can be sure they can meet them.

Oh! Sorry for my ignorance ha I feel quite out of the loop! I haven't had chance to check blogs or sites since December so I'm behind on the news!
But I appreciate the update hehe! Exciting!!! Thank you  ;D

I rather like the new ending (Hitchiking Ghost) that involves a moving ghost interacting with the people inside the doombuggie. I think both WDW and DL have it. Worth a look on youtube. Certainly good fun and I hope for some changes and additions. However would be sad to lose the SPIRIT of the original Phantom Manor. Very excited to see the refurbished attraction in November.

Screaming Coasters

Just wondering if there has been any further update with Phantom Manor?

Check out this video where Disney Imagineer Tom Fitzgerald talks about the refurbishment: https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=PwouKk0RZKs

What's more, tomorrow he will be present at FanDaze where he will talk about Phantom Manor during an exclusive conference, so I expect we will learn more details soon.

haha ya beat me to it Ms.R! :D

BTW anyone think the skull (at 1:22) looks a bit like the Hatbox Ghost?

Great minds think alike!  ;)

As much as I would love to see a Hatbox Ghost effect, I believe the Phantom shown in the video is the one we see when we exit the bride's boudoir, I've done a photocollage to compare the moment it's best shown in the video and the image taken from the official DLP site. I hope I'm wrong though...

I immediately thought that was the Phantom skull from the graveyard scene so I think you're right there.

Ah yeah that does look more like the Phantom.

I still wonder if that's hinting at something though..

Ok, so I'm literally jumping up and down right now. My biggest wish will be granted: the original spiel by horror legend Vincent Price IS COMING BACK!!! Tom Fitzgerald has also confirmed they are bringing the latest technology to the ride and also it will finally be revealed who the Phantom is!
