From Screamscape:

As all the Pleasure Island Cast Members arrived for work tonight, apparently they were all informed about a mandatory meeting that would take place at 7pm that would also delay the opening of Pleasure Island until 9pm.
The meeting that followed couldn't have been more shocking as the Disney's VP in charge of Downtown Disney announced that Saturday, September 27th would be the very last night of operation for Pleasure Island. All six clubs at Pleasure Island will close down for good after this date but all retail shops and restaurants locations will remain open however. To spell it out... Mannequins, 8 Trax, BET Soundstage, Motion, Comedy Warehouse and The Adventure's Club will all close their doors forever at 2am on September 28th. They were quick to tell all the CMs that no layoffs were planned as of this time, though meetings are still taking place with the various parties involved so no guarantees.
Disney has even managed to post a FAQ about this new announcement on their website already. According to the FAQ, Pleasure Island will be re-imagined, based on guest feedback, to feature a mix of "dining and shopping" options to be announced in the future. Hmmm... sounds like the rest of Downtown Disney, doesn't it? While lacking in details, according to sources at the meeting, it was indicated that the transformation would take at least a year or two to fully complete. Meanwhile an article already posted at the Orlando Sentinel also mentions that Disney will make improvements to the rest of Downtown Disney as well, including the addition of a tethered-balloon ride that will allow riders to 300 feet up for a view of Walt Disney World.

Sad to hear this. We go to Florida almost every year and spend our stay in a Disney Resort with every evening down at Downtown/Pleasure Island.

Seems a bit drastic shutting down the entire operation then taking up to 2 years to replace the lost attractions :(
Disneyland Paris  - 1992 - 1996 - 1999 - 2002 - 2008 - 2009
Hotels stayed in - Cheyanne - Santa Fe

Regarding Pleasure Island this is rather sad as I know both Comedy Warehouse and The Adventure's Club had a loyal following. I started a new thread regarding the future of our own Hurricane Night Club, which could be in trouble now with Disney wishing to replace night clubs with brand name shops and restaurants.

We were looking into going back to WDW with in the next couple of years. And even looked into bringing the in laws over. Mainly to look after our daughter (currently 7 months) so we could go to the comedy warehouse and adventurers club. These have been some of the highlights of our trips out there. I've like to think that they'd reinstate these in the new developments as this was an exclusive draw to PI.

BUMP: According to reports from MousePlanet's weekly WDW report, the place was jammed before 8 PM for one last "KUNGALOOSH!"  Many of the cast members at The Adventurer's Club will be reassigned into other shows like Finding Nemo at Animal Kingdom from what I understand. Here's the full story:

Hey, they copied us :P

I do like the look of this, I like the idea of having characters on it as well. I'm looking forward to seeing this complete :)

About time! Is it bigger than PanoraMagique? Looks it a little...

I guess this means from 2009 we'll have to get used to hearing how WDW has this amazing world-first, never been done before, new and exclusive... a la the Christmas castle lights.

I don't really get the "Characters in Flight" concept though, what's it all about?

And the talking characters, e.g. Timon in TLOTLK

The name is probably a strange way of saying that there are pictures of flying Disney characters on the balloon. Then again I have been wrong before...

And Moteurs... Action! Stunt Show Spectacular, the list could go on forever

Oh, I didn't even notice they were all flying characters.

The colours of PanoraMagique are much nicer, even slightly faded as they are.

The balloon has arrived at Downtown Disney. In my opinion, the DLRP version of the balloon looks nicer.

It's operated by AĆ©rophile, the same company that operates Panormagique!  :D
