Unnoticed Phantom Manor Effect? (or am i just going crazy?)

Hey all. I just got back from a 3 day trip to DLP.

Of all the things I did on the trip, one of my biggest takeaways was my newfound love for Phantom Manor (I had always loved the backstory, but now the ride itself has gone up in my estimations). However, on my ride throughs, I noticed something I had never noticed before.

After first entering the stretching room, when people are still milling about talking,  the cast member began loudly shushing people. However, I then realised it wasn't him, but the overhead gargoyles, as the sound carried, and even sounded distinctly similar from each of the statues. I had recalled something similar was utilised within the Florida version of the attraction, but I never knew that was the case in DLP. Any doubt in my mind that it wasn't the gargoyles was gone when I rode PM a second time and listened carefully for the shhhsing. Suffice to say I heard it again from overhead.

So my question is: Is this a known effect? Because I've literally never seen it discussed before, or am I just hearing things?

Hmmm, I've never noticed the effect before. It wasn't present last month I visited either. It could be indeed new!

I have heard it, but I just assumed it was the character leading us into the lift, as he was also telling us to be quiet and stuff. Also, it was my first time at Disney, so I can't compare it to previous visits!

RockNRoller

I've just finished reading Jeff Baham's book "The unauthorised story of Walt Disney's Haunted Mansion" and he mentions a similar effect in the American houses that creates the impression of the spirits flying round you as the sound moves around the lift. Maybe it is a new but subtle effect.

By the way I would recommend the book, it is awesome.

Someone with whom I was on the trip with confirmed he had heard what I heard, picking up that it sounded like it was coming from all around the room. So, the case is now to figure out if the sound just carried from the cast member, or it is some kind of new effect.

Slimy yet satisfying

As Im usually wearing a big daft hat I hadnt noticed that. I will listen carefully in May. For regular visitors I am sad to say that my favourite CM Manuel has now moved on from PM. He is due to go to POTC but will be working on Indy meantime. Those that know him will Im sure miss him but wish him luck on his new placing...fingers crossed for TOT which we know is his dream!

Welcome back. But I am not sure about your question.

Phantom Manor in my opinion is the best ride at DLP.

Magic.

Met Manuel once - what a legend!
