In 9 days, we will be heading back for our 16th trip in 5 yrs!
I think I will be using the same alarm clock for the children as I did last time (August)....
I got my iPad ready and played the parade theme music to my children to wake them (at 00:30) followed up by me saying....
Guess where were going??

Zee79

My children knew i was trying to book to go back in May but we had to wait until the new prices were out- we were using our annual pass which we had bought in the summer due to it being cheaper than 5 day ticket plus a 2 day ticket.
I didn't tell them that we were booking the day i did (they were away with grandparents) but when they came home they saw a poster on the fire that i created saying "if you go down to the woods today.... Sequoia Lodge is your big surprise! "
Screams were unbelievable
Even more so when i told them it wasn't just family going this year but friends as well - 13 in total including 6 children 2-10yrs :D

Im telling mine christmas day :) They each have a gift from mickey mouse which is a mouse ear headband, some old tickets and postcards and an 'invitation' to go and stay with him. That will explain to them why Mummy gets choaked up every time the disney advert comes on tv! lol

SoundSoldier

how old are they?

if they are old enough I think that'll work (id say from 10 years old?)
otherwise, I think it'll be all chaos when they find out. + some more effort in the surprise would be nice (not saying you're lazy or anything,)
I'd rather let them wake p at 0:30, getting dressed and say you have an appointment somewhere, or at least let them wonder why so early.

I don't think that telling them this right in bed, would help. :) or Maybe, set up a mickey mouse on the bed with a sign that says 'you're going to disneyland' ;) and then wake them up.

When I found out, they handed me an enveloppe with aal the booking papers ('your hotel has ben booked, payed the full amount,...'
It took me really 2 minutes before i realized what was going on.

I didn't tell them until we got there,  just told them we were going to belgium for a day trip, so a long car journey.
Got all the way to the hotel, before they woke up.  They thought it was just a day trip until we went to book in.. They still talk about their surprise trip... :D/

Awesome,

I was smiling, reading your stories....
Keep them coming Disney fans!!!!!! :D/

Some great ideas there!

I don't do anything like that tbh  :)   In fact, ny 3 were with me in the travel agent when we booked it telling the TA what they wanted, where they wanted to stay etc.  Tbh for a 3 and a 5 year old there a bit too clever for their own good- and mine lol  :D

:D We are going for 1/2 term in Feb next year and have made the decision not to let the kid's know until the morning we are leaving. Didnt get a chance to get there this year so the kid's have really missed not going. It's killing me not telling them but i really want it to be a suprise for my 10 and 6 year old. To see their faces light up will be worth it.

All set to go for a day trip on 15th December.  Collecting DS from school on the Friday and then meeting DW on the train to waterloo and staying there overnight.  The cover story is that we are going to see Father Christmas and do some Christmas Shopping  <evil Cackle>.   He will probably rumble me when we get to St Pancras International, albeit at 0500 via Taxi, so he might be half asleep
Just like we dreamed it

The first time i went i found an invitaion in my santa sack amongst my presents (i was 10 my sister was 6) on christmas day... and slightly off topic but when my mum took us to new york they had printed off pages with things relating to new york on it (ie. An apple, the statue of liberty, the emire state etc. ) and a letter telling us that we where going and when... so that could also be a way of telling them of couse you would change the pictures to disney related ones :)

Oh my god Zee79 that video was brilliant it actually made me well up!! My partner and I are taking our son in December not long after his 4th birthday and my partner has decided to throw a surprise Disney party for him the night before we go and then hand him a special invitation from "mickey" to say we are going the next day. I would love it if he reacted like this. Can't wait for him to find out even if it is 9 months away!

cinderslg

O my, welling up here to. What a fab reaction, as much as my girls love disney they have never reacted like that
