I agree, I'd prefer different Disney shops, Lego kinda fits as they have a lot of Disney theme sets. I would personally love a pin shop.... There's definitely too much of the same merchandise in the shops but I think too many 'outsider' companies ruins the vibe for me

Even if I like the idea of a Lego store, I agree that DLPD should pay attention that Disney Village does not become a common shopping street. We have a Mc Donalds, a Starbucks and god knows what we will see in all the stores when the World of Disney store opens its gates. When I'm going to DLP, I want to leave the reality for a few days, but Mc Donalds and Starbucks always remind me of the crowded train station I see every day when going to university. These aren't the best feelings to enter a Disney Park :/ I don't know, but Disney Village more and more becomes an alien element in my opinion. I like the parks (of course :D ), I like Lake Disney and the Disney Hotels, but Disney Village just feels too "normal", not Disney...

Although I would also like to see a Disney Village based on Disney, I don't have a problem with companies like Lego invading it. We complain about the Disney merchandise and food quality for many years now and it's not improving, that's why I like that Starbucks or EoS were brought to DV. There I get products which are worth the money. McDonalds is a different story. Disney's merchandise isn't that special anymore and each store sells the same stuff. So as long as there isn't more variety, I don't need five stores selling the same stuff. One big shop like WoDS is enough. Of course I don't want to see a H&M or something like that in DV.

Nobody complains about both DTDs in the US where regular stores have opened. I really liked DTD at WDW with the shops and restaurants aimed towards adults. In my opinion DV needs a few more bars and restaurants, especially when the parks close early.

I don't know if it's connected, but as someone else mentioned they are now selling Star Wars and Toy Story lego in park boutiques (Legends of Hollywood and Thunder Mesa Mercantile respectively, perhaps amongst others).

Amongst all the other merchandise it looks very nice. And I don't think Lego is a regular "every day" kind of shop like McDonald's and Starbucks anyway, especially if they decorated it like the Downtown Disney locations with special models. Walking through the Village recently I found the amount of "Disney" a slight overkill. Disney store, gallery, fashion... I can imagine a lot of people arrive at DLP and feel overwhelmed and a bit uneasy with that.

I was thinking: and if inside the Store will be a Sleeping Beauty Castle made with lego bricks? And also Lego versions of Big Thunder Mountain, Phantom Manor, Space Mountain, and even the whole Main Street? I will be very happy with that!

It might be worth keeping an eye on this website for any hint of Lego expanding into France: http://jobsatlego.com Nothing yet, although they've just posted a store manager position for a new Lego store in Manchester Arndale, apparently opening late August 2011, so they're still expanding the stores slowly. It's rather odd they have no presence in France whatsoever.

This is surprising considering Merlin own the rights to a lot of lego stuff.

Actually, Merlin own very little when it comes to LEGO, due to their contract they have to stock rival brands in their parks (Pirates of the Carribean, Star Wars, Harry Potter) and any park developments have to be ok'd by the LEGO company. They basically just pay for rights to use the LEGO name at the parks, if LEGO ever doesn't like something they have the rights to pull it from the parks.

@Magic__Live just confirmed the LEGO Store rumour:

  • "Disney Store will soon change its concept. It will open only afternoons and evenings and will become a children's shop, ft. Cars, Toy Story"
  • "Also the 'new' Disney Store will feature an all year round Christmas section! Soon in Disney Village!"
  • "Finally, World of Toys and Hollywood pictures will disappear and make place for ... A Lego Shop! Planned for end of this year!"
  • "And one more scoop: the old Hurricanes building will be used as a temporary Castmember restaurant, opening end of this month."

I don't quite understand this, it's cutting operating hours and changing in to World of Toys?

Quote"Also the 'new' Disney Store will feature an all year round Christmas section! Soon in Disney Village!"
Not really needed and a waste of retail space, I'm sure there's other ideas that could make 10x more money than a Christmas shop.

Yay!

Again, what is this!? This doesn't sounds like a company that wants to make money, they are wasting valuable retail space. I can just see guests trying to get in and then being turned away. .

Christmas shops are very popular and good money makers. I can see it working well, as you can't really pop in to buy something at near Christmas, so will buy on your trip to make sure you don't miss out.

Good news that the LEGO unit will actually be pretty expansive! I'm hoping they renovate the entire facade too to bring it in line with the other LEGO stores. They could even strip out a tower and fill it with a LEGO scene!

As for the Hurricanes/Cast Member thing, that is just a temporary fix I'd assume. So it shows they at least are aware of the wasted space and are most likely looking into using it for something on a bigger scale.

Of course Christmas Shops are popular, I'm not saying they aren't. I'm just saying that space could be better used when you can buy Christmas products in The Disney Gallery and in Disneyland Park.

To be fair, the hurricanes site isn't very appealing. "Hi, would you like to have a new shop right at the end of the Village on the second floor of a building that was formally owned by a nightclub that was so unpopular that it closed down." :)

As for the Lego store, I can imagine it being quite popular. :D
