Cars Land is going to be huge and the cars mountain range looks fantastic. This one land seems to be as big as the whole WDS park and maybe even more expensive.

While I think Cars is Pixar's worst movie, this new Cars Land looks awesome. It's like Big Thunder Mountain meets Test Track. Disney haven't built anything this cool since Expedition Everest. Hopefully the music played throughout the land will be from the Cars soundtrack, artists like Chuck Berry, Sheryl Crow, Rascal Flatts, etc.

Funny, Cars is my fav Pixar. But I agree, this looks like it could be a lot of fun. Yet again I feel like our home resort is the evil step child :(
since 2001 (many before that)

I'm amazed by how much money is being put just into the mountain scenery. It's not essential in the same way as it was for, say, Expedition Everest; they're only building it to set the scene. It's just pure awesomeness that they're putting that much effort into it.

Here are some new images of Cars Land under construction that I just discovered on Google Maps. The whole of Disneyland Resort is now covered by their 45? imagery. Right-click them and choose Open Image in New Tab (or your equivalent) to view them fullsize.

"Behind-the-wall" photos of Radiator Springs Racers construction

http://disneyparks.disney.go.com/blog/2 ... gs-racers/

QuoteReading your comments on our recent virtual "drive-through" of the upcoming Cars Land at Disney California Adventure park, I could see that many Disney Parks Blog readers were excited to see what's in store when the new experience opens next year. Today, we've got even more for you to see – new behind-the-wall photos of Radiator Springs Racers.

In this first image, you can see the Cadillac Mountain Range continuing to take shape, with one of the banked turns of Radiator Springs Racers in the foreground.

QuoteHere's a close-up of one of the banked turns, in which you can see the double-track where the ride vehicles will race side-by-side.

QuoteIn this broader view, you can get a feel for the scope of this attraction. Hills, banked turns, straightaways – who's ready to go for a spin?

I was really amazed by the progress when I first saw those photos. I can't imagine it's going to be like to repaint all of it in the future when they're having a refurb! XD

Is this the biggest ride -- in terms of area -- that Disney has ever made?

I guess that will still be Kilimanjaro Safaris, but as a ride-on-a-track this must be one of the biggest. It looks huge

Yesterday at the D23 Expo 2011 in Anaheim, Disney hosted the "Radiator Springs Reality: Imagineering Cars Land for Disney California Adventure" panel discussion, featuring John Lasseter. Here's how Disney describe the presentation in the D23 Expo 2011 guidebook:

QuoteCars is on Blu-ray, Cars 2 is in theaters, and now Cars Land is coming to Disney California Adventure (in case you haven't noticed that little bit of construction going on behind Pacific Wharf). Opening isn't until next summer, but now's your chance to look under the hood and see what this 12-acre addition to the park is all about with some of the people that are making it happen. John Lasseter and Roger Gould from Pixar Animation Studios join Imagineers Kathy Mangum, Kevin Rafferty, and Jennifer Mok for a lively discussion moderated by Imagineer Dave Fisher.

Thanks to user "thebugger2000" on YouTube, you can now watch the full thing in 1080p HD, in three parts:

Cars Land looks great. But... I think it has some issues.

Out of all the Disney and Pixar films in the world, was Cars really the one that guests wanted to immerse themselves in? Yes, I know Disney built it because they want to sell more Cars merchandise, but was Radiator Springs really the number one environment that people wanted to walk around and explore?

The whole logic of the first Cars film is that it's a world where humans don't exist. So, to have humans enter the world of Cars doesn't make a lot of sense. And for a human to sit inside a car in the Cars world is kind of the equivalent of someone sitting inside a dog's head. If you think about it too much, it's all very strange. If Cars don't need humans and have no knowledge of humans, what do they think about us visiting their town? And how do they feel about us driving around in "alternative" cars that don't have eyes, teeth and tongues?

The other thing is, Radiator Springs is supposed to represent a town in the desert. Now, if you've been to California you'll know that the sun is very very strong, and standing in the middle of a large unshaded area of tarmac is very unpleasant. So, why would Disney want to build a 12-acre desert environment in California? It's not the best choice in terms of guest comfort.

Also, Luigi's Flying Tires looks like the slowest most boring ride in the world. The original Flying Saucers ride looked quick and bouncy and wild. But this new version is so controlled and safe that it looks about as fun as riding a steamroller.
