DISNEYLAND RESORT PARIS CELEBRATES THE 50TH BIRTHDAY OF DISNEYLAND, CALIFORNIA
05/05/05

A celebration 50 years in the making launches simultaneously around the world on May 5, 2005, with the unveiling of the "Happiest Celebration on Earth," an 18-month global commemoration of the 50th anniversary of the very first Disney theme park – Disneyland, which opened in 1955. This highly-anticipated event marks the first time that all 11 Disney theme parks around the world have joined together for one global celebration.

Gérard Depardieu - an international movie star sends special birthday wishes

Gérard Depardieu, the internationally famous French actor, sent the warmest of birthday greetings and a message of friendship to the Disneyland Resort. After experiencing Space Mountain:Mission 2, the new attraction that forms part of the Disneyland Resort Paris contribution to the celebration, Mr Depardieu declared: "What a ride! The edge of the universe is a wild place! It is a great pleasure to be here, and to wish Disneyland the warmest of birthday greetings!"

The Happiest Celebration on Earth

In 2005, all Disney Parks throughout the world will celebrate the 50th anniversary of the very first Disneyland, which opened in California on 17th July 1955. Jay Rasulo, President of Walt Disney Parks and Resorts, said: "Every year, tens of millions of people visit a Disney destination – creating memories that will last a lifetime. During our 18-month celebration, we are inviting our guests from around the world to come home to their favourite Disney destination and celebrate with us what promises to be one of the biggest events in Disney history. It's an event our guests will not want to miss."

As part of the celebration, Disneyland Resort Paris recently launched Space Mountain: Mission 2, and will also stage a new firework spectacular, Wishes, which will run from 16th July to 28th August 2005. In addition, the summer season at Disneyland Resort Paris will be a truly magical experience, with Disneyland Park opening its doors to guests from 9 am to 11 pm, again from 16th July to 28th August inclusive!

The very best French Chefs bake a giant birthday cake to mark the 50th anniversary.

For a very special birthday, Disneyland Resort in California received a very special 50th Birthday present from Disneyland Resort Paris in the shape of an enormous cake baked by the most talented Chefs in France. 22 culinary craftsman helped bake the cake, including Guy Lassausaie, who for the past ten years has been President of the "Lyon Master Chefs", an association founded in 1936 and comprising approximately one hundred chefs from Lyon and the Rhône-Alpes region. Four of the 22 Chefs present are winners of the coveted title of "Meilleur Ouvrier de France", or Master Chef: Guy Lassausaie, Alain Le Cossec, Philippe Girardon and Joseph Viola. They were joined by ten Chefs from Disneyland Resort Paris, including Michel Cliche, himself a Master Chef, and their families.

Under the direction of Pierre Labalette, Director of Food & Beverage at the Resort and organiser of the event, the cake was prepared in the kitchens of the California Grill Restaurant in the Disneyland Hotel. Five teams comprised of children and five chefs (one Pastry Chef and four Master Chefs) took turns in preparing the birthday treat, a five-tiered strawberry cream cake measuring one and a half metres high and comprising fifteen kilos of strawberries, with each team preparing one tier each. Once the cake was completed, the children were invited to be the first to taste this delicious delicacy!

I really hope DLRP can mention something about the 50th anniversary and/or The Happiest Celebration On Earth in the Wishes announcement. They really are missing the history of DLR
Grab a balloon, come on let\'s go!
