We are visiting next week, first time in 3 year and first time out of summer season. It's says on the calendar that Extra Magic Hours is 8:30 to 9:30am but park opens to everyon4 at 10am. What happens in the half hour period between 9:30 to 10am? Do they really close all rides for 30min?

At 09:30 the parks open for daytime and offsite guests.
The areas and atractions that where open will stay open. Nthe characters that are doing meet and greats keep meeting. Everybody is allowed to start queing and ride the rides. It was a very very busy time when I was there in the beginning of October. At 9:30 the queues for rattatouile and cchrush where over an hour. And rock n roll or coaster was more than 30 minutes.

So the gain of being in a quiet park is gone as soon as the gates open for normal guests. But atraction wise nothing happens. At 10 they open the other atractions.

I have a guide to Extra Magic Times here.

There's generally a slightly different way that the main park and the Studios handle the 9:30 to 10am period due to the set up of the two parks.

Just got back this week, if you want to ride big thunder you can get on it at 9.30, it use to be they didn't drop the ropes until 10 but on the 3 mornings we went in we rode at just after 9.30 with a 5 minute wait.

Yeah this is where the confusion seems to be right now - they are still supposed to do the rope drop but that doesn't seem to always be happening. Maybe when it's not so busy they're not bothering?

So in Studios at 9:30 do they stop crushers coaster for Disney hotel quest or can they still keep going on it?

Hope in Disneyland they still open up frontierland up at 9:30. Would be great to get on BTM. We are going on the 18th October

When I was in the park last week (5 and 8 oktober), Chrush was open for everyone from 9:30 hotel guest and non hotel guest. the queue was over an hour long . In the disneyland park, only the attractions in fantasyland, startours and obitron where open. It was possible to enter frontierland and queue for big tunder mountain but it did not open before 10 o clock

Since I hear a lot of different story about which attractions are open or not,  I guess they open up attractions a soon as they are ready with the morning start up and testing. So if you are lucky big tunder is open early, we got to do star tour on one morning and rc racers on the other. Both attractions that are not listed to open during extra magic times

We were there this weekend, it seems they opened parts of the park at 9:30 but not everything. For example Discoveryland was open and all rides seem to be running, Adventureland was open but Pirates only opened at 10:00. And from what I heard Frontierland only opened at 10:00

Just to clarity, was star tours open at 8:30 or did it only open up at 9:30?

I don't know. I stayed of site for that trip so wasn't in the park before 9:30.
