Driving to DLP

We have our trip booked for October and have decided to drive from Scotland/Glasgow to DLP - getting the ferry from dover to cross over.

Any advice on the traveling would be great.

We are not sure wither to book the ferry before hand or wait until we arrive at the port, same for hotel not sure if we need to get one or not.

ferry / tunnel will be cheaper if booked beforehand, particularly if you can take advantage of any offer they happen to have on.

If you have any Tesco Clubcard vouchers, you get three times their value to use on the Tunnel.  Much prefer the quickness of the tunnel over the ferry, and if you get there a little early you can sometimes get on an earlier train.

Tunnel is quicker and more convenient, but is usually twice the price of the ferry if going for an extended period.
Ferry is more enjoyable - relax, have a drink, have a longer rest from driving etc.

If we're going for a long weekend break we'll take the tunnel, if its an extended holiday, we'll take the ferry.

We went from Dover to Dunkirk this year and booked our ferry through ferrysavers.co.uk. It cost £116. We're going via the tunnel next year, only because of my tesco vouchers. I certainly wouldn't discount the ferry, like someone else said, it's nice to stretch your legs, grab a bite to eat etc

We've always found ferrysavers to be more expensive than booking directly with the ferry companies themselves, but appreciate it may be because of when we go.

Always try searching for a discount code, beit for the tunnel, DFDS or P&O.

We drive down from Newcastle, we always stay at the Premier Inn Ashford Eureka Business Park, just booked it for August and was £45.00 for the night.  It has a lovely Pub right next door for meals etc.  Then we book the ferry for the following morning, its only about 20 mins away from the Dover terminal.  It means we dont have to worry about getting stuck in traffic etc and missing our ferry.  We also book this hotel for the journey back so we don't have to leave Disney really early in the morning.

It must depend on demand and timings. It was cheaper by £15 with ferrysavers than DFDS Seaways (even with their 10% military discount)

Hi Twigs,  we get to Disney on 8th August and come home on the 14th, don't want to think about coming home though ha...looked forward to this for so long

We are off today, driving from the North East, staying in Travelodge Whitstable & getting the tunnel in the morning. Do it every time we go to DLP. We used to go by ferry but after experiencing the storm in 2011 never again. I said don't care about the price, this year we were lucky got the tunnel for £118 return! When we do book it works out the second price as the ferry.

For all driving to DLP please be aware of the delays for the ferries due to security checks.

Oh Joy we're driving up to Dover next Tuesday to catch the 4.20am Ferry on Wednesday morning. Was thinking of leaving Cornwall around 9pm on Tuesday night may leave earlier.
