Hi Guys,

I need some advice, i'm planning to propose to my partner when we go to DLP at the start of September with our little girl. The dilemma I have is I want it to be as magic and memorable as possible, i've emailed DLP Special Activities and they offer a package which includes for the nighttime fireworks :

Flower Bouquet

However this comes at a price and its 700 euro!! Obviously this is going to be a once in a lifetime thing so I don't mind biting the bullet and taking this one, it is expensive for what it is but my questions is I just want peoples opinions on whether I should just put that money towards the ring and find a nice spot (theres tonnes to choose from) and do it myself and have a lovely ring or get something slightly cheaper and always have that amazing memory!

I know DLP can be expensive but that's pretty outrageous!

Why not book Auberge De Cendrillon & do it there.  Beautiful location, fancy food & I'm sure if you let staff know beforehand they'll do something special. 

Still very special, but 500 Euros less & you can put that money saved towards a ring.

On Twitter, ED92 recently had a small video of someone proposing right before the fireworks. I'd imagine it was the same package you inquired about because they were right at the front (privileged area) with a guide/CM nearby but didn't see any bouquet.
IMO, you could easily do it yourself by finding a good spot early on and right when the music startings you'd surprise her (bc at the start of the music I always get goosebumps ).
Is this your first time going to DLP?

Thanks guys I just want it to be as special as possible and like you said there are many alternatives that are just as special. I'll get searching for inspiration, originally it was 500 euro but then with the latest price increase its jumped to 700 and for what you get I can't justify it I don't think.

We went last year for 4 nights and loved it so booked to go back this year, we're staying at the sequoia lodge golden forest can't wait

Wow that is a lot of money, you could definitely do something just as special yourself, there are so many beautiful parts around the parks. My cousin was proposed to in front of the castle this year and I'm pretty sure he mentioned it to  a photo pass guy and he managed to capture it all for them and she loved it.

I get you want to make it special and you want to guarantee a nice spot but that is expansive. I'm not saying not to do it but there are lots of great places to do it, i  would say if your going to do it your self plan way a head, if there is going to be a quiet day when your there try then or if you get extra magic hours the castle is less busy then.

There is also inside the Disneyland hotel or the gardens outside of it at night.
You can do a walk around DLP on google maps if you want to find specific places.

If she is a big Disney fan i'm sure she'll love what ever you plan.

I agree with everyone else, that is extortionate! 

Does your partner have a favourite character?  And does that character have a meet and greet spot? (You can see who is currently doing meet and greets if you look online at the schedule).

If there's a character who is meeting that your partner loves then you could propose with that character.  If you have your camera/video camera ready and give it to the Cast member, just whisper in their ear what you're going to do, meet the character, then just do it.  The character will totally join in and make it magical for you, even if they don't know in advance what you're going to do, they're trained for moments just like this and are the masters of spur of the moment magic! 

Auberge De Cendrillion is another good shout.  It's the lunch with the Princesses so if your partner likes Princesses then that could be perfect!  When a favourite Princess arrives, make an excuse to go to the loo, tell a CM what you want to do and ask for that Princess to be told and to come over and do it with her.

There's loads of great places and things you can do to make it magical without paying 700 euros.  That money is much better spent on the bling!  Hahaa!

Just to pre-warn you. When we were there last Xmas, a guy was going through the security scanners from the hotels and kept setting it off because he had something in his pocket. They insisted he empty his pockets and he had to show it was an engagement ring in front of his girlfriend. I felt so sorry for him as it completely ruined the moment. See if you can sneak the ring into a bag which goes separately from you so you don't end up in the same situation.

My partner and I went last September.
We woke up early for magic hours and went into the park for photos.
He managed to get the ring through security by going ahead of me and being quick, whereas I was busy putting my phone into my bag.
He proposed at the photo spot which is in front of the castle, but to the left.
This is a quiet area, which is on the way to the dragon under the castle, and it was perfect as we were uninterrupted, as it's slightly secret to the side, and there is no-one in the background of our photos as it was early!

The day was made perfect by us having lunch at Inventions with Eeyore, my favourite (though complete coincidence).

Whatever you do, it will be special and memorable, so don't worry about splashing out!

Thanks guys it went well! We had a bit of quiet time around Lake Disney and i'm not one for a big showing so I did it quietly on a bench to the side. She said yes

FWIW my now husband proposed at DLP in 2001.

We had half our honeymoon there and went every year for anniversaries until it got silly expensive to do - so here I am planning our first trip in aaaaages (squee).

Anyway. I'm glad you picked your spot. Husband proposed outside Buzz Lightyear's Pizza Planet restaurant, in the rain, with one knee in a puddle and pizza sauce on his chin, with an audience of japanese tourists and a curious duck.

It was still beautiful (although I don't let him forget this  - huge great romantic castle? Nah, I'll choose a pizza joint)
