We are staying at the New York Hotel but we will prob only be eating after park closes so not many options to use the vouchers at participating restaurants but we were told you can use them at face value against any meal at most other restaurants in Disney Village. How much is the face value?

what level of meal vouchers do you have? hotel, standard, plus or premium? they al have different face values

You can use your vouchers for a meal from a set menu or a buffet in the restaurants of the level of your vouchers.
If you want to eat in a restaurant that is a higher level you can choose to use your voucher for face value. This almost every time means you have to pay a bit extra to compensate eating in a more expensive restaurant. 

You can only use your meal voucher in disney owned restaurants. So you cant use them (not even for face value) at rain forest cafe, planet Hollywood, king ludwigs, earl of sandwich, starbucks and mcdonalds. (non of these are owned by disney)
They do accept them on al other restaurants, like le grange at billy bobs, the steak house, annets diner, the buffelo bill show, and  new york style sandwiches.
You can also consider eating at one of the hotel restaurants. Both the buffet and table service restaurant at Hotel new york are very good. But there are lovely restaurants in al the other hotels.

Thanks for replying. Having looked at our package it says we have half board plus. So what face value would that be? If we can't use them at the Rainforest Cafe we will prob try the hotel restaurants you suggest.

It was about 30 euros if I can remember correctly. But you can always phone disney to be sure.
With your meal plan you can eat at almost all Disneyland hotel restaurants and Disney restaurants in the village.
