I'd never thought I'd see this reported!
Pixar Worry Over WALL-E

Ok much speculation has filled the world since Pixar announced that the ninth movie would be about a robot in space with no dialogue. And many within the movie industry have quoted that it is indeed the ninth movie that breaks many a movie company, and many have predicted that the movie was already doomed to fall privy to this curse... However I've just found this on imdb.com... //http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0910970/news?year=2007#ni0103181
QuoteAlthough Disney/Pixar's Ratatouille crossed the $200-million mark at the domestic box office over the weekend, some Pixar executives are blaming Disney's marketing staff for failing to create a promotional campaign for the movie that would have pushed it into the top-five for the year, as Toy Story was in 1995 (No. 1); A Bug's Life was in 1998 (No. 4); Toy Story 2 was in 1999 (No. 3); Monsters, Inc. was in 2001 (No. 4); Finding Nemo was in 2003 (No. 2); The Incredibles was in 2004 (No. 5); and Cars was in 2006 (No. 3). According to Disney watcher Jim Hill, Ratatouille currently ranks eighth at the domestic box office and might wind up out of the top ten entirely by the end of the year. As a result, he says, Pixar execs are now overseeing the marketing campaign for the upcoming WALL-E, something that has apparently infuriated the Disney marketing staff. Hill quotes one unnamed studio insider as saying that Ratatouille "was a very difficult picture to sell during an incredibly competitive summer. ... They're now being complete bastards about the WALL-E trailer, insisting that only they know the proper way to promote their next picture. ... But that's okay. Let them call the shots on WALL-E's marketing campaign. Next year, they'll be the ones who'll be taking the fall when that Andrew Stanton film doesn't measure up to expectations."

Now I'm not going to worry... (MUCH) but this was reported back in September 2007... There appears to be feelings within the Pixar teams that Disney are purposely trying to derail their movies (after all The Wild and Chicken Little both flunked if I do remember rightly correct me if I'm wrong and they were Disney Movies moving into Pixar Territory)

But its only now I've come across this... and Pixar lucky penny John Ratzenberger's role in the movie has been established as a character called John. I'm guessing that John is either one of the few Humans featuring in the movie or one of the rebel bots.

Well, that was last November. All reports I've read recently point to WALL-E being a massive success - both in box office and merchandising. This little robot is going to be big.

I did read on Jim Hill months ago that Pixar were handling the WALL-E advertising this time, which, considering how great it's been, could be true. The theory of Disney wanting Pixar to fail is the stupidest thing I've ever heard though. Without Pixar, they'd be dead.

I really want WALL-E to do well, but the competition is fierce this summer,
Wanted which is opening at the same weekend in the US is already getting
positive reviews and critics are calling it the best action movie for this summer,
Dark knight, Hellboy and Hancock are expected to do well too.  :x but i have faith in
WALL-E i hope it does better than what iam expecting  [-o<
These are a few pictures  that show that Disney is promoting WALL-E in a big way

Thanks for the photos howtodeal, did you take them yourself or is there a source? This is really one of the best movie advertising campaigns for a long time. Everything seems so well-planned down to a fine art. And for the first time in years, I still have absolutely no idea what to expect from the film or story, despite seeing all these trailers.

Here's an interesting additional trailer, playing up the action aspects of the film: http://www.comingsoon.net/news/movienews.php?id=46164 Thanks to animated-news.com.

Nope, we just ask you post a source if you know it, makes sure everyone gets credit. If you don't, no problem.

Now, not that I want to ruin my own chances -- *brainwashes*don't pick Manchester*brainwashes* -- but you can enter a competition to attend a free WALL-E preview screening (with 3 friends!) at many Odeon cinemas across the UK on 6th July through Buena Vista's thinly disguised promotional movies website: http://www.bvimovies.com/exclusives/exc ... nings.html

You need to sign up, but they often have good competitions and preview tickets.

I pre-ordered it yesterday from HMV. Although have to admit, I played a couple of the track previews before managing to stop, and it was really beautiful. Strange how Pixar's directors seem to always use their favourite composers - Lasseter = Randy Newman, Bird = Giacchino, Stanton = Thomas Newman - is there a reason why?

Well folks, Pixar have done it again. But this time, they've blown themselves out the water. They're getting comparisons to Chaplin and reviews as good as the best of any of their other eight films...

97% of positive reviews so far for Wall•E

Rotten Tomatoes sums it all up: "It's rare that a picture earns comparisons with Chaplin's City Lights and Kubrick's 2001. It's rarer still that said picture is also praised as intelligent, visually remarkable, darkly funny, and ultimately, heartwarming family fare. However, critics say the good folks at Pixar have done just that with Wall•E, perhaps the studio's most audacious film yet. Set in a dystopian future, Wall•E is the tale of a garbage-collecting robot navigating an unpopulated Earth. Soon he's joined by EVE, a female bot searching for vegetation, and falls head-over-treads in love. Critics have been heaping praise on Pixar for years, but there's a reason for that: The studio re-invents the rules of CG animation each time out. The pundits say Wall•E deftly blends slapstick, political satire, heartbreaking romance, and masterful storytelling into a one-of-a-kind movie experience. At 97 percent on the Tomatometer, Wall•E is not just Certified Fresh. It's not just one of the best-reviewed films of the year. It's one of the best-reviewed films in Pixar's history."

Wall•E scores 100% positive reviews from top critics

Pixar's latest also rose to 98% of positive reviews overall according to Rotten Tomatoes. It "has all the heart, soul, spirit and romance of the very best silent movies 60 years ago." says the Hollywood Reporter. "One of the best films of the summer" (USA Today), "Pixar's ninth consecutive wonder of the animated world" (Variety) has "a disarmingly sweet and simple love story, Chaplinesque in its emotional purity" (NY Times); "some day, there will be college courses devoted to this movie," says the NY Post, with the Dallas Morning News agreeing that this film is "something dangerously close to the sublime, a film that will be dissected and enjoyed for years to come." "A jewel of a film" (Washington Post), this "masterpiece" (Wall Street Journal) is "pure visual magic" (Newsday).

I've got goosebumps. Were Pixar worth $7.4 billion? Hell yes.

Just ordered mine too! Can't wait! Come on the 14th of July!

With the use of composers it could be because of the scheduling too... by the time Lasseter finishes a film, Bird's normally hot on his heels the summer later and then Stanton follows on (It works out from Cars to now but I can't go further back cause I'm having a little moments of blonde) and the composers are therefore tied up on their current project or after finishing it are probably wanting time off to enjoy the masterpiece they had created! It's also probable that the director and composer understand what each other need or want for the movie the details the composer requires for the piece of music, and likewise the composer knows what the director expects think Randy's You Got a Friend in Me, or Giacchino's La Festine can you envisage anything else in that place.
