Eurostar are building up quite a disastrous reputation. Anyone who uses them knows their food, service and prices leave a lot to be desired (cue someone telling me I'm wrong). Transferring people to a car shuttle is just plain crazy.

There was some good news the other day that Deutsche Bahn are going to be allowed to run trains through the tunnel: http://uk.news.yahoo.com/18/20091216/tb ... 68574.html

I do like that BBC report though! Itsa Deff trap, innit!

I had to laugh at the video, the woman states 'there was no oxygen in the tunnel' ?   How were there no deaths !?    :P

The old man doesnt seem to think hes heard enough so he keeps dipping down to speak into the microphone

Oh and too the guy, nice french impression

Yes, I loved his impression of a French person as well, haha.

Ah yes, the liberalization of the high-speed rail network. It is good news on one hand, because a little competition might finally get Eurostar and Thalys (in particular) to provide better service and lower their fares, but on the other, a little scary. We might seriously be looking at EasyTrains and RyanRail. Goodbye classy burgundy Thalys and silver TGV, hello bright orange trains with URLs painted on them in which you're charged €10 for a wee.

It will probably be for the better — for Disneyland Paris as well! — but high-speed rail as we know it is in for some serious changes.

(Unless it's too cold and they break down.)

Repeating several times - "Deff trap, they should close it! Wonder no-one died!"

Looking at the snow outside, the driver strike threats and now this, I'm almost glad about leaving it too late to book a Christmas trip. Is anyone here actually heading to DLP this week?

have now got this following update from the eurostar website re tomorrow

Eurostar has confirmed that on account of the continuing severe weather conditions in northern France it will not be running any services tomorrow (Sunday 20 December 2009).

Following the disruption to its services over the last 24 hours, Eurostar does not want to cause its passengers any further disruption and will be conducting a programme of  'test-trains' tomorrow to better understand the problems that have been occurring.

We are committed to restoring our services as soon as possible but our key priority is the safety and comfort of our customers.

We are advising travellers to change their tickets for travel on a later date or have their tickets refunded.

We have confirmed that we will be offering travellers who suffered major delays on their train services last night £150 compensation per passenger in addition to a refund on their tickets and a free return ticket.

Any passengers who were scheduled to travel today can exchange their tickets for travel on a later date or have their tickets refunded.

We will provide a further update tomorrow on www.eurostar.com

All travellers will need to produce details of their booking reference/s to receive compensation.

Any news on when they will start their services and where they will run? If they were clever, they would use London Waterloo and offer a Disney service too.

Another Eurostar has broken down

//http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/uk/8422978.stm

We have had loads of problems with Eurostar in our last 8 journeys only 4 have been on time, i feel like im jinxed. Our last train in November was 59 minutes late so we didnt get our half price tickets as compensation as you have to be 1 hour late to qualify.

Quote from: "Anthony"Is anyone here actually heading to DLP this week?

Should have been there tomorrow, should have travelled to Paris today... just spent two nights in London (planned) and visited St Pancras a couple of times - first to collect our tickets ready for today, and then to get more information about what was likely to be happening. The most infuriating thing is that different staff members were giving out different information, and the information was rapidly changing through yesterday.

I really feel for the people who got trapped onboard trains, but am also gutted that our (first) Christmas trip to DLP has been wrecked.  :(

(and tomorrow I'll start the fun of seeing what we can claim refunds on... I've got a feeling we've lost the hotel money cos it was a "christmas offer" for a hotel in paris that we made directly, and specifically said "no cancellations". I did take travel insurance with Eurostar though so will have to investigate).

here is a further update that has been provided:

What compensation is Eurostar offering to travellers delayed on Friday 18th and Saturday 19th December 2009?

Eurostar will offer enhanced compensation to travellers on the following services: Trains 9053, 9055, 9057, 9059, 9063, 9163 on Friday 18th December, and trains 9035 and 9043 on Saturday 19th December.
Enhanced compensation consists of the refund of your journey, an additional free return journey on Eurostar in the next 12 months, £150 / €170 in cash and any reasonable out-of-pocket expenses.

Eurostar will also offer compensation for any passengers whose train was delayed by more than one hour. For delays of 60 minutes or more, we offer a complimentary one-way journey in the same class of travel as your original ticket, or a 50% discount off a return fare in the same class of travel. If you were delayed by 120 minutes or more we offer a complimentary return journey in the same class as your original ticket.

What compensation are you offering for travellers who could not travel over the weekend?

Eurostar travellers with bookings for travel on Saturday 19 December or Sunday 20 December 2009 should change their tickets for travel on a later date or have their tickets refunded. This can be done free of charge through your original point of sale up to two months after the original date of travel. In addition, Eurostar will be reimbursing reasonable out-of-pocket expenses.
