Holz sets sail for new Disney postOrlando Business Journal

Walt Disney Parks and Resorts announced that Karl Holz, president of New Vacation Operations, will become president of Disney Cruise Line.

The move is a result of Disney combining Disney Cruise Line, Adventures by Disney and its offsite regional resort business into a single division.

Disney Cruise Line has two ships based at Port Canaveral — the 2,400-passenger Magic operates on seven-day itineraries and 2,400-passenger Wonder alternates between three- and four-night itineraries.

Adventures by Disney is an adventure travel unit launched by Disney nearly four years ago.

Disney's offsite regional resorts are those resorts owned by Disney, but away from the theme parks in Orlando and Anaheim

"[Holz] is exceptionally qualified for this expanded role, which will include oversight of the Disney Cruise Line expansion as we build two new ships to add to our fleet," said Al Weiss, president of Worldwide Operations for Walt Disney Parks & Resorts, in a prepared statement.

Disney Cruise Line plans to debut new, larger cruise ships in 2011 and 2012. Their addition will more than double the passenger capacity for Disney Cruise Line.

Holz, which served as president of Disney Cruise Line in 2004, will begin the transition back in the coming week.
