Looks amazing, doesn't it?  :D  So Disney *ARE* still capable of things like this! (in terms of looks anyway - we'll have to wait and see how good it is as an actual attraction).

More photos here: http://www.wdwmagic.com/beastly.htm , including some more of the lovely trains swooping around the mountain!!

I've seen it with my own eyes!  It looks a lot more impressing in real life than on those pictures.  Although it's a shame that you can see the unfinished back of the mountain from the top of Summit Plummit.

On-Ride Videos Are Here!!!

Thanks to the Inside the Magic podcast: http://www.distantcreations.com/insidethemagic/

Video 1: http://libsyn.com/media/insidethemagic/everest1.MOV
Video 2: http://libsyn.com/media/insidethemagic/everest2.MOV

I know we shouldn't, but please post your opinion, based on just those videos!  :D Most of us won't get to ride it for ourselves, so let's try to ride it virtually... lol  Do the videos get you excited about it?  Does it look like it could really be a true classic Disney ride?

I think it looks like our Big Thunder Mountain, but:
- Shorter
- Backwards section
- Yeti projections and stuff
- Dodgy part at the beginning with nothing to look at, no theme... weird  maybe it's not finished?

It doesn't seem as impressive or "breathtaking" as I had imagined though.  I think the pre-show much do most of the build-up...  The yeti projection and the backwards change parts are AWESOME though!  From those videos it looks like you just don't even notice at all that the track has switched!  Brilliant!  :D

Well the ride looks fun, though nothing spectacular from the video, to be honest it does just look like a glorified Big Thunder Mountain  , suppose that would make sense it being a vekoma coaster after all, so whos taking bets for how long it will stay smooth :P .

The official website is open now as well: http://www.disneyeverest.com/

It's very atmospheric, with that distant wind howling sound in the background and the odd swoosh of a mountain train...

I think they've probably got an attraction on about the same level as BTM (probably the American ones) here... perhaps not better, but a similar very high standard of ride.  The themeing in the Everest area, the queue line and the look of the trains is all amazing...  :)  It's just a shame that that first bit of track looks a bit bland, and that there doesn't seem to be much to the ride compared to the size of that mountain!

I've just realised - could that projection of the Yeti tearing up the track be the first example of the kind of thing we're going to see in our Crush's Turtle Twister in WDS?  :o  :o

Animal Kingdom's Asia will be getting a new restaurant next year:

QuoteIn addition to the T-Rex concept, Landry's has acquired the majority interest in Schussler Creative's new Asian themed eatery (which is expected to open by summer 2007) inside Disney's Animal Kingdom® Theme Park. This Asian-themed restaurant with retail is reminiscent of the western Himalayan foothills in India and Nepal, featuring a rural village called Anandapur in a jungle with a tiny town-like mass at its center. Asia will offer full service table dining, as well as quick service food. This Asian-Fusion concept will feature Asian decor, complete with Asian antiques, as well as a retail component that will offer Asian goods ranging from Sushi plates to chopsticks and fine teapots.

Good news!  The hideous back of the mountain has been repainted to resemble a Tibetan palace.  8)

Wow, that's rather clever!  Ok, so it doesn't exactly look 100% realistic, but considering the fact it probably cost next to nothing in Disney terms, it's pretty good.

They should have still just built a proper full mountain though...
