Quote from: "RnRCj"It scares me to think that if it wasn't for Orlando's RnRC, we wouldn't have our own (even better version) here at WDS.
That is scary... imagine the name your parents could have had to call you instead... TVTourj, ArmageddonSFXj, FlyingCarpetsj...!

Actually, if it wasn't for Rock I probably wouldn't have returned to DLP half as many times as I have. I probably wouldn't even be a "fan" of Disney parks at all (or should that say "critic"? :P).

Chances are I would never have registered at this forum!

(I bet you all wish RnRC never existed now)

Happy Birthday RnRC!

I may have only been on WDS' 4 times but those 4 rides have made me a faithful fan.  Move over RnRCj, theres a new kid in town   :P

Went on this 7 times last week, and one ride had some lights and smoke the rest seemed to be in total darkness, with just a few spots etc, not like the ride it was, but still a good thrill ride, my 2006 ride on this was the best ive ever had, full effects, greatness... hope the refurb goes well and it returns in all its glory

We arrive in Disney on the 14th September      Oh well, plenty of other things to do and enjoy.

I found out from another forum that the smoke machines often don't work because of the ride operators. Apparently the smoke makes it a bit harder to see the track on the moniters, so they just leave it off.

I'm not sure whether this is really the case, or just an excuse not to put them on.

So thats why the smoke machines are never on while i'm there. :x

Peharps they'll put in better cameras that can see through the smoke during the refurb peharps.

What I don't get is how they managed to keep the smoke working for a good 2/3 years when the ride first opened. Either the ops had better eyesight back then, or there's a different reason for them not working.

I'm hoping this isn't the real reason for them not working, otherwise it could mean that they'll still be off after the refurb.

Aerosmith lead singer Steve Tyler was sent to hospital after falling off the stage when performing Love In An Elevator.

More info about the smoke...

Apparently the smoke machines were replaced a few years ago with new ones (the old ones left an oily residue on things - it was unsafe). The new machines are the ones that make it hard to see the track on the monitors. So that's why they always worked during the first years.

If we're lucky, maintenance might have the sense to replace the smoke machines again during the refurb. We need ones that are not-so visible to the moniters, and don't leave any slippery residue on surfaces.

Fingers crossed.

I've just made this image which compares the loading area from 2002 and the present. It's a bit blurry because I print-screened them from Youtube vids, sorry!

Notice how there are more lights on the back wall in the first image? That's how it should be! :) Hopefully the loading area effects will be repaired as well as the main lightshow in September.

I thought some of you might like to see my Rock 'n' Roller Coaster effects checklist. I'll be taking this with me on Wednesday to Friday. When I get back, I'll post the list again so we can see which effects are working and which are not.

RnRCj's Rock 'n' Roller Coaster effects checklist
