Technologically in 1995 Space Mountain was huge. Onboard speaker systems using Flash drives that until a few years ago many people had never even heard of.
Most rollercoaster manufacturers don't even offer on-board sound in 2009!

The ride was many years ahead of its time, even not taking into account when they started development of the ride (1988?).

I love it!

Well the on-board soundtrack deal is more of a design deal, most coasters have normal cars without audio because overall for outdoor coasters for most of them there isn't a big ask for it, like for instane parks like Six Flags and Busch gardens are the biggest customers, though they're just about the coasters, because most of them don't have a distinctive theme, with a few exceptions from Busch Gardens etc. So they keep the train designs minimal and suitable for every coaster, but of course new cars are designed for coasters if the customer requests it, with pre-installed sound program or without, for instance Space Mountain if i remember the trains we're made by Vekoma in the Netherlands, and the sound system was installed by another factory or put in by Disney, same goes for the Rock 'n' Rollercoaster, could be wrong though. But for instance Maurer offers a sound system on they're X-Car vehicles, think Vekoma does the same with the MK900 coasters but i don't remember. Though i have to agree Space Mountain was very much ahead of it's time, and more coasters should feature soundtracks if you ask me.

I think it started somewhere round 1991 or 1992, for DLTALL i think since Space Mountain in the concept stages in 1988 was the DLR version of Space Mountain until they dropped Tomorrowland for Discoveryland.

Hope you had fun on Space Mountain, Javey :)

The real reason I posted here is that I found 2 other videos from that same program about Space Mountain, and thought it best to show them here rather than in a new thread.

Indiana Jones et le Temple du Peril (this one is interesting since it covers the design changes they had to make to get it going backward)

Big Thunder Mountain (this one... isn't so interesting)

Willow posted a photo of a model of Space Mountain. I just want to point out that the track layout shown in that photo is NOT what was actually built. There's way too much track. The real layout of Space Mountain, what they really did build, is quite a bit simpler than that.

Yeah it's been down since last Saturday.  When i asked a CM when was it opening (this was on saturday during EMH, i know though there was something wrong) all i got was "*shurgs* there's been a technical fault."

Good news everybody! tonight it has been "testing" by the looks of it, was sitting in discoveryland and every 3-4 mins a car would go up the canon, either they are making a big mess inside and crashing and piling up or it works :P

Whilst they try to fix it, I'm hoping they're making it a smoother, more comfortable ride too. But I ain't gonna hold my breath. That would mean spending extra money.

Rather than fixing the track, or the wheels on the trains, if they simply replaced the Other The Shoulder (OTS) restraints with a modern-style waist restraint, the ride would be SO much more comfortable.

It's your head banging from side to side, between the bars of the OTS, that makes the ride so unpleasant and painful.

I mean, the Indiana Jones Adventure at Disneyland is a VERY bumpy ride. Your upper body and head are swinging and bouncing all over the place. But you don't really notice it, or should I say feel it, while you're on the ride, because you don't have 2 massive restraints either side of your head.

For me, it's actually my left shoulder being banged against the harness and the side of the car. I wish I had taken a picture of the bruise I got after SM2

Vekoma cars are terrible. They are getting better these days though.

I like OTSRs, just not the Vekoma versions.
