We almost always go in September.  The prices drop. It's reasonably quiet but still enough people for a good atmosphere and the weather is generally fantastic not roasting hot but tee shirt weather. If you can make it for the 3rd I think that's the date prices drop and you'd still catch forest of enchantment which is only on for the summer.

Thanks everyone's! It's just me and my boyfriend and we tend to book the Eurostar separately! What are the most and least busiest times? We've previously enjoyed swing into spring, but would like to try another time of year also, we are just unsure when. Obviously we would rather go when it's not at its most busiest! How do we find any info on this?? we aren't in any rush and can return when suits, but within the 25th anniversary:)

Basically avoid the English and French school holidays. The dates are easy to look up online. Late June/ early July is usually a good compromise - lots of stuff on because it's the summer season but the UK schools haven't broken up at that point. The French break up end of the first week in July.

Also avoid the weekends regardless of when you go as obviously there are fewer day trippers during the week even in the holidays.

Halloween and Christmas are both great but obviously tend to be busier than say a random week in March.
