Sorry if this is in the wrong place but thought it would be ok as it is linked to photography?

I'm after a new camera, as much as I hate departing with old things, I really want a new one that takes good/highish photos for when I go to Disney in August and for other special moments!  At the moment I've got a Samsung something or other (lol) with 8MP, its a decent camera but compared to my sisters its bad!  So I end up using hers instead but would be a bit of a pain in Disney if were in different parts of the park lol and shes going to want to use it, obviously.

All I want it to do is take good/highish quality photos, easy to use and not too expensive.  I've heard that Nikon is meant to be the best make going?  I've had a play with SLRs before but prefer a compact in all honesty lol

I've been looking at Nikon COOLPIX S31000 14MP Digital Camera

Anyone shed some light on how good it is please? :)

EDIT I was thinking maybe people could use this thread to ask about any camera that they're thinking about buying?

Looks good to me. Amazon.co.uk sell it in blue for £98.90, and in black for £96.98.

An alternative would be the Canon PowerShot A3300 IS which Amazon sell for £99.99 in silver.

If you want a compact that's less than £100, it's worth having a look at Amazon's bestselling Digital Cameras in the £50-£100 range:

Thank you for your advice

after watching reviews for both I've been swayed towards the Canon Camera now lol

Ooo and that Canon one is on offer for just this week!

Glad I could help. Before you make your decision, you should look at this table which compares the spec of each camera, in a side by side comparison:

http://www.dpreview.com/products/compar ... on_cps3100

There are lots of similarities, but the main differences are:

• The Canon has more megapixels (16 vs 14.1)
• The Canon has an Optical image stabiliser (very useful feature)
• The Canon has a larger LCD display (3" vs 2.7")
• The Canon has a wider maximum aperture (F2.8 vs F3.2)
• The Canon can take longer exposures (15 seconds, vs 4 seconds)
• The Canon shoots HD video in the MPEG4 format, whereas the Nikon uses the older MJPEG
• The Canon is a lot heavier (149g vs 118g)
• The Canon is thicker (24mm vs 18mm)
