Blue Lagoon - can you just have a drink?

Hi guys,

I'm brand new here and not an experienced forum user either so apologies if I've put this in the wrong place.

We're going to DLP for a week in mid-Sept and my eldest son, 11, has always wanted to go inside the Blue Lagoon restaurant as his favourite ride is Pirates of the Caribbean.  We are on the standard half board meal plan so I know I can pay extra and eat there but the menu is just not our cup of tea at all.  There's nothing I would eat and definitely nothing the kids would eat so I really can't afford to spend all the extra on a meal we aren't going to enjoy.

So my question is, do you HAVE to eat to visit the restaurant?  If we were to visit the restaurant at a quiet time, on a weekday, would the staff allow us to just buy a drink and sit by the water for 20 minutes and watch the boats go by?  We wouldn't outstay our welcome and my son would be so happy as that's all he wants to do, just sit there for a bit and watch the boats!   Any thoughts or advice much appreciated.  Thank you.

Can't say I've ever done it but I think if you got an extra nice CM they might let you - boat side tables are tricky to come by though so I'm not sure they would let you have boat side if you aren't eating.

Slimy yet satisfying

Even in low season the answer has been no. We went in January this year and went on the ride first, being the only ones in our boat and seeing an almost empty restaurant we were sure it would be OK. Non!

Thank you for your replies.

I was hopeful but it seems it's not possible then if they refused you in January.  Such a shame.  I don't object to premium prices for the 'special' restaurants but when the menus offer such a limited choice it excludes everyone who doesn't like those few, very specific dishes.  To say that DLP is designed mainly for families, the people who decide some of the menus certainly don't seem to bear that in mind!

I agree with that. I really like the look of blue lagoon, and the idea of sitting waterside watching the boats seems lovely, but I hate fish, and none of the other non-fish dishes seem appealing. And this wouldn't matter so much if the food there wasn't so expensive. I think they should let people just sit and have a pudding and a drink or something, and just allocate the table for a certain amount of time. Ah well.

I really love Blue Lagoon and I don't like fish.  I normally have the chicken dish which is lovely and my DS (3, was 2 when last went) had chicken and he swapped the rice for chips (its not on the menu but they will do it) and loved it.

I loved the steak! I don't really eat fish but there are other options - the steak was just a good steak - no fancy sauce or anything.

There are plenty of non-fish choices in Blue Lagoon; it is a common misconception that it only serves seafood.
