Ooooooh, I've been waiting a while for this topic
As part of the D23 Expo, the Muppets decended onto the stage briefly yesterday (on the Mark Twain no less - tie in to next years Muppet promotion at Disneyland? (//http://www.photosmagiques.com/forum/viewtopic.php?f=12&t=7602)). As they left the stage, Disney Studios Chariman Dick Cook announced that they'll be starring in a new film called
The Cheapest Muppet Movie Ever Made.

What could this be about then?...
Quote from: "url=http://www.comingsoon.net/news/d23exponews.php?id=59031]ComingSoon.net[/url]"]This title references an old title, developed Jim Henson in 1985 but never produced that would have featured Gonzo directing a Hollywood film and quickly blowing the project's budget. Though unconfirmed, it is likely that this new film will mirror the same storyline.
You can find a much more insightful description of the original film at the following link:

There's going to be a Muppet Panel at the D23 Expo at some point in the next few days, so that ought to shed some more light onto both the Muppet's next big screen adventure, as well as next years Disneyland campaign too.
 =D> :D/  =D> :D/  =D> :D/
At last, another Muppets movie!
Hopefully more info is mentioned at the expo, I think the Muppets panel is tomorrow.

I love the muppets! :D/
My parents grew up with the show and their is no doubt that we'll go to to see this. :D

Flight of the Conchords co-creator James Bobin has been signed onto the film as the director :) :
 http://www.heyuguys.co.uk/2010/01/29/ne ... -director/ (http://www.heyuguys.co.uk/2010/01/29/new-muppets-movie-gets-conchords-creator-james-bobin-as-director/%22%20onclick=%22window.open(this.href);return%20false;)
We've completely missed a lot of news about this project over the year. Wikipedia has a good summary: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Muppets_(film (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Muppets_(film%22%20onclick=%22window.open(this.href);return%20false;))
The plot involves:
Quote"The Greatest Muppet Movie of All Time is about Gary, Mary, and Walter (a man, his girlfriend, and the man's life-long nondescript, brown puppet best friend) getting the old Muppet gang—now retired entertainers known for the same Muppet show we know them from—together to save the TV studio that the original show was shot in. A villain, Tex Richman (nice name, on par with Doc Hopper), bent on drilling for oil underneath the studio, is due to take over the studio in weeks and the only way to stop him? Putting on a show that draws ten million viewers."
It's now simply titled "The Muppets". Jason Segel (How I Met Your Mother) is writing and starring, alongside - as his girlfriend ....Amy Adams! Yes!

QuoteHere is what we know about the movie thus far:
• James Bobin is directing from a script by Jason Segel and Nicholas Stoller.
• The film will be in the tone of the classic Muppet films like The Muppet Movie, The Great Muppet Caper, and Muppets Take Manhattan.
• Jason Segel will play the lead role, a human named Gary, whose best friend is a Walter, a new iPhone-wielding Muppet named Walter voiced by Paul Rudd. The character has been described as "a sweet, slightly naive twenty-something Everypuppet who, in the movie, is the best friend and roommate of Segel's character, Gary. Both Gary and Walter are die-hard Muppet fans." Walter has never met other puppets and idealizes Kermit and the Muppets because they're the only beings he's seen that are like him. Together they go on a journey with Gary's girlfriend Mary to defeat the evil Tex Richman, a man who doesn't find the Muppets funny and thinks he can smell oil beneath their studio.
• Chris Cooper is playing the villain.
• The cast also includes Amy Adams and Rashida Jones (The Office) in the other key human roles.
• There are plenty of celebrity cameos written into the script (including Sean Penn) and Segel apparently got verbal commitments from most of the stars during the writing process. Other cameos rumored to include Eric Stonestreet, John Krasinski, Ed Helms, Lady Gaga, Jack Black, Donald Glover, Jane Lynch, Danny Trejo, Zach Galifianakis as Hobo Jo & Paul Rudd as Walter the Muppet.
• We know that Jane Lynch will be a prison guard and Danny Trejo will play a prisoner.
US release 23 November 2011.

Really looking forward to this. Just looked on imdb and the UK doesn't get it till Feb 2012. Why does Disney love to torture us so often!?
You know what looks even better than The Muppets? This film:

I don't think they could have chosen better leads than Amy Adams and Jason Segel.
Coincidentally I'm "Green with Envy" that Disney UK are delaying the release by three months compared to the US just so it'll time with February school half term...
^Yeah, totally agree. Amy Adams loves life and yeah, this film should be awesome. Oh and they've released another teaser trailer in the style of the Hangover teaser...

Good lord I'm excited for this film.
It's too bad they've chickened out again and gone with a generic "comedy, rated G!" poster with the standard extra bold sans serif font. Family-friendly comedy posters have looked like that since Eddie Murphy used to talk to sarcastic animals. I liked "The Cheapest Muppets Movie Ever Made" name with that image...
Now rated 100% Fresh at Rotton Tomatoes!
68 reviews: http://www.rottentomatoes.com/m/the_muppets/ (http://www.rottentomatoes.com/m/the_muppets/%22%20onclick=%22window.open(this.href);return%20false;)
Down to 97%, but that's still pretty amazing.
It'll be out on DVD in the US before we see it in the UK! Never mind, give me something to look forward to in a usually dull February.
You know I didn't really expect to feel excited by this movie, even though I grew up with the show. But I can really see the whole family loving this movie in the cinema together.
Fingers crossed.
Finally I've seen The Muppets and enjoyed the movie a lot. I've never seen the TV show and so I didn't know what to expect, but I was surprised that I liked it so much. In fact it's the best Disney movie for a long time.
yeahhhhhhhhh
just got back from seeing The Muppets (and Moopets) with my two boys (3 and 8)
All agreed it was great fun, I think I laughed more than they did :)
I definitely recommend to any one with children, a childish sense of humour or both!
Finally saw the Muppets yesterday and I thoroughly enjoyed it, was very funny! It made me sad over the absence of The Muppets at DLP, though. Hopefully if it's successful we'll see them more over here.
I've seen The Muppets now. I didn't find it quite as amazing as all the reviews said it was, but it was still a good film that left me with a positive, uplifted feeling.
I had some issues with the new voice of Fozzie Bear, and found Jason and Amy's characters a bit fake and two-dimensional (probably intentional). But there were enough gags and random moments (seeing "Sheldon Cooper") to smooth over the rough patches.
Interestingly there were very few kids in the film. Whenever there were crowd scenes full of people singing in the street, they were all adults. This gave me the feeling that the film was made by adults FOR adults.
The film was reviewed by The Totally Rad Show back in November 2011. Check it out on YouTube because it's a really good analysis:
