Title: Brave (Pixar 2012)
Post by: Anthony on March 19, 2009, 02:34:06 AM
Release: June 2012

A snippet about Pixar's [strike:22r4gad7]Winter 2011[/strike:22r4gad7] release:

Quote[Reese Witherspoon] This is what she had to say about Pixar's Winter 2011 release, The Bear and the Bow and her character Merida:

"I get offered a lot of animated movies... [then] Pixar came along with another great character. A girl from royalty who would rather be a great archer? And she has a Scottish accent? Who could turn that down? You always go for the great character to play, even if she's animated."
Source: Upcoming Pixar

Doesn't signing up Reese Witherspoon to play a scottish girl go slightly against Pixar's usual way with voices? I suppose Ratatouille didn't have French voice artists, but she seems like an odd choice for a Scottish accent...

Now I thought the Original Disney Press Release pinned this for a Winter 2012 release... I know Cars has jumped a year to 2011 now, and Newt has supposedly fell back...

I'm so confused now... These dates and Disney are confusing, they say one thing and now do another...

QuoteJulie Walters is joining the cast. She's set to play an evil witch, pitched against the 10th century Scottish royal family (the previously announced Reese Witherspoon, Emma Thompson and Billy Connolly). Apparently the focus will be on the mother-daughter relationship between Witherspoon as Merida and Thompson as the Queen.

And the release date is now June 15th 2012.

I really begrudge all of these silly name changes Disney seems to be making lately...

Rapunzel ---> Tangled
The Bear and the Bow ---> Brave

Boring one-word titles that I suppose they think will be more memorable?   :?:

Yeah. Like Tron, Enchanted, Cars, Wall-E, Up, Bolt etc. Who remember them ??
   8)

I dunno. The Bear and the Bow isnt a very catchy title, and never filled be with any sense of anticipation. I like the namechange

True true, all those films are very memorable. Although I do think "Cars" has to be the least-imaginitive film title of all time! :D

"Brave" to me is just an adjective, there's nothing creative or interesting about it. "The Bear and the Bow" seemed to evoke a bit of mystery and folklore in my mind.

I loved "The Bear and the Bow." It had that wonderful enigmatic quality of the names of pubs or London tube stations. It was the reason I clicked on this thread.

"Brave..." Doesn't get a thing out of me.

 :stitch:

There is nothing wrong with the title Tangled, the film isn't about Rapunzel as such, it's more about Flynn.
And you seem to be forgetting the other Disney films with single word titles.
Bambi. Cinderella. Pinocchio. Atlantis. Mulan. Tarzan. Aladdin. Dumbo. Fantasia. Enchanted.Tron. Hercules.

I'm sure there are more but I am having a Disney block

Anyway, I am sure that this new film will be just as memorable as all the others and I can't wait to see it :D

I just hope that I don't get confused hearing Mrs Weasley doing a voice over

Have a Disney Day everyone

Surprised no one else has posted this yet. The first poster for the film was released today, it looks pretty cool.

Still doesn't give too much away though but apparently a teaser will be unveiled before screenings of Cars 2! I'm looking forward to seeing some footage from this. They are also claiming it'll be their darkest film which isn't too hard considering all of their previous films are mainly bright and fun.

That's given the movie some potential from me.  I haven't been a fan of this concept from the word go (even before the name change), to be honest I feel this should have been the film to face the chop instead of poor Newt (anyone remember it?).  However I do feel it's time Pixar goes for a darker movie, we saw some darker undertones in Toy Story 3 but nowhere to the standard I think it needs to go.  Knowing Pixar they can pull this off.

This is what I want to hear from Pixar, trying new things and not being afraid to try it.

I reheheally don't know about this one. This is what every other studio is doing. Dark, overserious, involving mythology, epic battles... Haven't we seen enough of this?

Pixar's films have always been so lovely and upbeat, so bright, so 1950s. That's what made them stand out. I fear Disney's nervous, desperate, audience-unsure influence is going to do Pixar in.

Although I have a feeling that dark, scary bear might actually turn out to be quite cuddly and happy. A bit like the abominable snowman from Monsters Inc. Just a hunch.

I'm still worried about the toilet-humor (read: Dreamworks-humor), like the woman doing this ](*,) at 1:40 though...

While I love Pixar and their whole culture, I have to admit that this doesn't appeal to me. It doesn't seem particularly original. It reminds of stuff I've seen before in Shrek, How To Train Your Dragon and Tangled. As others have said, it feels more like a DreamWorks film than a Pixar one. It is just a trailer though, so we shouldn't judge it just yet.

Love that new trailer, and the poster. Very restrained and intriguing. Glad to see the bear featured again, that was the most interesting part of the original concept and teaser trailer.

Can't wait to see something fresh from Pixar. Agree with you about Cars 2 dagobert, though I never posted my views of it here (probably lucky or I'd have to ban myself for profanity). What a disaster that was, thoroughly depressing to watch as a big fan of the original film.

Saw a (free! lucky me) preview screening of Brave this morning - I'm pleased to say it lived up to my hopes! Merida is a likeable heroine and I loved watching her tale unfold.

Pixar are obviously renowned for the high quality of their films and although a bit different from some of their other efforts, I would happily rank this alongside their best productions. It has fantastic characters, loads of laugh-out-loud moments for both adults and kids, and of course, a big dose of Disney heart. The whole cinema was chuckling throughout.

In addition, the visuals, as you may expect, are simply breathtaking. The attention to detail is utterly sublime and the sweeping shots over the Scottish scenery are just incredible.

Suffice to say I left the cinema feeling uplifted and thrilled - I would heartily recommend!

Would be great to hear the thoughts of others who see it.

P.S - anyone know why our UK release was so much later than the USA release?

UK release dates are usually always months after USA releases Twilight and Harry Potter are only ones I know released around the world the same day. I saw the Muppets movie in December in Florida it wasn't released over here until February this year.

Anyways loved Brave. I've never heard of the Bear and the bow. Love the attention to detail. I'm wondering were cast all Scottish or were the accents put on though. Eitherway fab movie and worth going to see

Really enjoyed it. Lots of humour and very entertaining. Although it did see like very safe ground they were following. There were elements of Mulan, Brother Bear, (the legend of zelda) and the [spoiler:2c3c79xr]fight scene at the end was very Lion King[/spoiler:2c3c79xr]

Not as good as Up, Wall-E or TS3, but a vast improvement over Cars 2.

7.5/10

Finally saw this yesterday. Have to say I was a little underwhelmed.

Visually it was stunning, the landscapes were outstanding, and as usual the animation was done with great talent. The emotive expressions of a none speaking character were really well done.

Plot wise though it seemed a little brief. It was quite a quick jump from one sequence to another, and some of the plot points got resolved rather conveniently.

And, as like the poster above, I'll give it a 7/10.
