Title: Lost rides - concept art!!!
Post by: Kristof on April 02, 2004, 12:14:55 PM
Tnx to Experiment627, we got our hands on a copy of the Eurodisney opening ceremony.  During this show, they gave a small preview to the upcoming attractions.  The quality is rather poor...

Wow! Thanks raptor!  I've heard about these concepts announced at the opening for so long but i've never actually seen the pictures myself!

The Little Mermaid darkride looks *very* cool, and i've always loved the sound of the Beauty and the Beast darkride/show aswell.  I'm not too keen on the MGM Studios Europe - it all looks very bland and hard to distinguish.  I guess i just haven't heard enough about what attractions would be there, but then again if they were good ones then maybe i don't want to..!  :x

Might still happen... at least I hope so.

That's why I want to see it at the Studios so badly.

How would you design the mermaid building?  I'd love to see the Mermaid Lagoon building from Disney Seas:

If it was in the Studios then i'm not sure.  On one hand, you could instantly think to put inside i very bland soundstage like all the other attractions, but then on the other hand as it would be in Animation Courtyard that DisneySeas design would look fantastic.  Animation Courtyard *should* be all wonderful and colourful but it's just as drab and dreary as the rest of the park!  Something as bright, exciting and memorable as this is exactly what it needs!

Can you imagine WDS with:
1) The Little Mermaid dark-ride in Animation Courtyard
2) A ride like Buzz Lightyear in Production Courtyard
3) Tower of Terror
Wouldn't that be great?  All the gaps would be filled and the park would finally be complete, offering something exciting for everyone and a totally fun one-day experience!  Now, does anyone have a spare $50m?? :P

I'm getting bored with this whole Tower of Terror-discussion. Actually, I don't want that attraction anymore.
At least as long as they can't pull it off properly with the necessary thematic wit. (And I don't see that coming for the next 15 - 20 years

Mmm, haven't seen a ToT discussion for quite some time now... Although, I would love to see it in the Studios Park.  Either within 5 years, or 20 years...  :D

Sorry, it's just after seeing how great DCA's Tower of Terror looks i'm back to wanting it in WDS again!  I'm sure this terrible disease i have will only get worse as May 4th approaches (that is the opening, isn't it?)

I can understand why you don't want the tower, and in a lot of ways i agree - wrong place, wrong time, wrong attraction!!! - but i still love everything about it that i still really really want it in Paris!

If you really get sick of me talking about "getting ToT in WDS" then you know what you have to do... buy me a plane ticket to California, or better still - Florida!  :P  :D

I just think that - at the moment - WDS does not have the necessary infrastructure and "show areas" for any amazing E-"Plus"-tickets like "Tower", DLP's "SM", DL's "Indy" etc. ... and I don't see these problems solved for a looooong time

And now, thanks to raptor, we've got lots of screencaps from the "Behind The Ride That Almost Was with Disney Imagineers" featurette on the new Little Mermaid dvd.  I won't repost them all here, but they're really really worth checking out:

Beauty and the Beast was supposed to be an Audio-Animatronic show, with a live Belle singing with the animatronics.  It was supposed to go next to the Fantasyland gate.

Might that woman who plays Belle will be sick of singing with them?  :?

Or they'll swap over every 10 minutes.

You know, people were saying that the Little Mermaid ride would never get built at Disneyland Paris now, because of Crush's Coaster. But, from the looks of things, they aren't that similar at all. The "dry-for-wet" technology in Crush's Coaster seems to be non-existent. So, maybe there's a chance of the Little Mermaid being built afterall?

Btw, check out Tony Baxter's house in that DVD screen capture. Pretty nice Fantasyland decor he has going on there :-)

I had no idea they were going to build a Beauty and the Beast ride! That would have been amazing!

But I would LOVE LOVE LOVE to see the Little Mermaid ride get built. That would be the best. I mean, I know there are lots of people who may love it, I would prefer to have a Little Mermaid / Beauty and the Beast ride rather than the Pinoccio one the have. Thats just my opinion though  :)

But Wow to all those pics! Some fantastic stuff!    :D

FANTASYLAND IS KIND OF FULL...
Well, if I look at this, they could build it right there?
Near It's a Small world: http://www.dlrpmagic.com/today/2006/10/ ... aid-01.jpg (http://www.dlrpmagic.com/today/2006/10/images/18-mermaid-01.jpg)

But, I don't know if It's a Small World is useful. Well, that's my opinion, but would it be nicer if The Little Mermaid would be in that building? Because I never saw It's a Small world as a fairytale, but just as an production of FranceTelecom®.
It's just, 'putted there' :(  .

Than you'll have the space for even more fairytales  :P .

Bye, MSW

Theres all the history behind its a small world though isnt there? Its not just here becuase of FranceTelecom®. But because of Walts concept and how it was put together for the original (please excuse me if I am wrong) World trade fair in New York c. 1965 I think. Anyway, Walt was ask to "throw something together" to promote Pepsi and Is a Small world is what he came up with!

I would still love to see the Ariel ride though. We do need another classic princess theme ride.
