Me too, and Prince Caspian. :)

The Cine-Explore visual commentaries still amaze me. Andrew Stanton's for WALL-E is brilliant.

I think the words there Are Wait and See Nic! They could fall like Woolworths has and unfortunatly for them it could mean more for you!

Try HMV... Up till Christmas the had a selection of Blu Rays on 2 for £30...

My Borther had the DVD version of Nightmare (his 3rd version now) and the re-vamp its had for that was Outstanding! I'm wanting it now!

I can't wait to see what they've done to Pinnochio... Even though I am not a big fan of the movie... will the 20 year difference between it and Sleeping Beauty mean a different result on the Blu Ray.

well, I thought the trailer they had for Pinocchio in the Sleeping Beauty blu ray didn't look that great  :? , particularly compared to what they've done with Sleeping Beauty... But I'm guessing that's still a work in progress?

Finally have my first Disney Blu Ray. Got Enchanted from HMV website for £9.99 (£27 instore). And while the picture and sound are amazing, I dont think I will be upgrading any of the Disney DVDs I already own.
1) I watched the Wall-E DVD which the BD player upscaled, then I rented out (for Free !!!) the Blu Ray version and to tell you the truth I couldnt tell the difference.
2) It took me long enough to upgrade the 300+ videos I owned to DVD (now have 3 videos) and I'm not gonna spend more money upgrading the 75+ Disney films I have or the other 500 DVDs for that matter

So next on the list for BD will be Bolt

I can agree with that, actually. Put on an animation DVD with PS3 upscaling on and it just looks beautiful. There *is* less detail, but I won't be re-buying any films unless they come with worthwhile new extras. So the current releases of Cars and Ratatouille are definitely crossed off.

It really is worth buying the new Platinums in BD though, they're truly amazing for the "Cine-Explore" (such a bad, clumsy name) visual commentary alone. That is the real highlight of Blu-ray. :)

Is Monsters Inc really worth it on Blu Ray ?
Apart from Sully and his millions of little hairs, I always thought the rest of the film wasn't very detailed. especially the backgrounds. Almost as if Sully had taken up all of the computer's power.

Well my list currently stands at 2, which is kinda impressive as it exactly half of my entire Blu Ray collection

Enchanted
Bolt

The Mi Blu Ray according to some of the guys on my Pixar Forum... you can see smaller details like that of the childrens records they use, when they were last scared etc... Blu Ray should be arriving by Saturday... so I'll give you my review Mr Pete then!

Cheers Pan. Sadly, for some unknown reason, we weren't sent any copies in work. Especially because our store is one of the few that has made extensive room for Blu Rays, and we are currently the biggest BD seller in. (Admittedly, as a result the CD sales have hit rock bottom as they are shoved into a dark corner)
It would have been nice to put something new on. At the minute the bosses are rotating Bolt, Harry Potter 5 and Kung Fu Panda

Mine so far:
Wall-e (I'll never bore of particle effects)
Ratatouille (The food looks edible!)
Cars (The raceway scenes are amazingly detailed)
Pirates of the Caribbean 1,2 and soon 3 (Love the talking skull on the menus and the  ship battle scenes:D/ )

+ although not Disney - Stephen Fry in America (Loved the whole series)

Unlike other publishers, Disney make their Blu Rays worth it by adding good content.

Well, I got tired of waiting so I finally bought the A Bug's Life bluray from amazon.com: and I should have done it earlier, because it's region free (well, region ABC). And it looks gorgeous!! My current list  :D

Bolt
Bug's Life
Cars
Enchanted
Monsters Inc
Nightmare Before Christmas
Pinocchio
Pixar shorts

Ratatouille
Sleeping Beauty

Since this week I've been off sick and forced to lie down most of the time, I've been catching up on the CineExplore commentaries... I really enjoyed the Pete Docter one in Dumbo (together with Andreas Deja and Disney historian Paula Sigman), and the one in Sleeping Beauty with John Lasseter, Andreas Deja and Leonard Maltin is a must!

I guess Fantasia and Beauty and the Beast are next!

Ooh yes, I watched the Dumbo one last night and loved it. Pete Docter was a great choice. It's such a great experience with all the drawings and concepts, sound and video clips popping up on top of the film. Forget picture quality, these are absolutely THE reason for Disney fans to upgrade to Blu-ray.

Did anyone have Dumbo on pre-order at Amazon? They messed up their pre-order price promise with the Buy one get one free promotion and only charged me £12!

I've officially joined the Bluray club :) I do quite a bit of comping online (entering competitions) and a couple of weeks ago was lucky enough to win a Sony Bluray player.....then £50 Amazon vouchers too.
The blurays I ordered just arrived today - Avatar, The Dark Knight and of course, Up. I'm watching Up already and it's amazing - I still can't believe I got all this for free :D
I'm sure my Disney bluray collection will soon be bigger than one but I'm very happy with the one I have right now :D

Disney stuff is the best tonic when ill!! Duvet, chocolate, Singing and Zac Efron  :P

Well as a film graduate my film collection is pretty vast. Blu Ray changed my world. But i do have to be more careful than i would like because of the expense of them, so so far my Disney ones are only stuff that have come out new that i didnt already own on dvd (im retro-still love my VHS!)!! I cant justify replacements yet although Beauty and the Beast is gonna change that.....

Well heres my list :
Wall.E
Princess and the frog
High School Musical 3
Prince Caspian
Up
Snow White
Pinocchio
Sleeping Beauty
Hannah Montana The Movie (i have a dedicated slightly secret place in my heart for that show!)
Bolt ("i was BORN ready")
Monsters Inc (this was a replacement as i had the dvd but its poss my fav Disney output so i just had to have it!)

Disney really go all out with their Blu Rays which is so refreshing because my general bluray collection is pretty big and some of them are frankly unimpressive! Lazy extras thats my biggest gripe. If ur gonna make me pay nearly £20 offer me more than that!! So Disney are a must for a blu ray geek i think!
Ive got my list for chrimbo inc Dumbo and Black Cauldron! Havnt seen Black Cauldron since i was very very small so that ones exciting!!

My DLRP visit is next month, im considering buying one of the french blurays while im there just as a souvenir, quirky add to the collection! Not long now..... :D

Update to my list! I now have:
Up
Princess and the Frog
Alice in Wonderland
Snow White

Cars

The good news is that the upscaling quality on my bluray player is pretty good, so I notice a difference from a standard DVD player even when watching my Disney DVDs :)

Bolt 3D? I didn't even know that was available!

Maybe a stupid question but, do you have a 3D TV then? How is it, good? :)

They've released in 3D a few weeks ago (and Alice in Wonderland in 3D is coming out in time for Christmas)  :D

Yep, we have a 3D TV, and it's pretty good, you really get the depth and volume! Same as in the cinema, really (but the glasses are a lot more comfortable at home!).

Which brand are you using? My parents plan to buy a new TV and they consider to buy a Sony Bravia 3D. Do you need a special Blu Ray Player as well, because they just have a normal Sony Blu Ray Player?

The TV is a Philips one; and yes, your bluray needs to play 3D; we have the PS3, but I guess you can upgrade the software in most players to play 3D?

The thing with Blu-ray is, I really believe you need a 1080p television to fully appreciate it. If your TV can't display 1920 x 1080 pixels, then there's much less of a difference between Blu-ray and DVD.

What I like about a lot of the 2010 Blu-ray players is that they have built-in Wi-Fi, so can access online services such as the BBC iPlayer. This makes them far more useful than just an ordinary DVD player.

Did anyone else receive Disney Blurays for Christmas? I got Beauty and the Beast, Toy Story 3 and Fantasia - I'd held off buying them as I thought Santa might be kind ;)
Just started watching Beauty and the Beast just now and the colours are breathtaking, off with the laptop now so I can really appreciate it!
Also - thanks to Disney movie rewards (Which are offering a lot of good bonus points these days) I've ordered Bedtime Stories on Bluray - doesn't look amazing but I've not seen it. Another 50 points and I can get either Pinocchio or Dumbo which will mean 3 free blu rays from them in total. It's a great scheme!

Very small collection for me so far, I managed to add a little to it over Christmas.  Despite that it takes up 45% of my full Blu-ray collection!

Nightmare Before Christmas
Toy Story
Toy Story 2
Toy Story 3
Up

One of my short term goals is to have the entire Pixar collection on BR, at least I've made a start to that :P

Random bit of related news: A Bug's Life seems to have finally been released on Blu-ray in the UK! It was released in the US ages ago, and now it's suddenly finally slipped onto UK shopping sites completely unadvertised. Mine's just been shipped, so it's not a mistake!

http://www.blu-ray.com/movies/A-Bugs-Li ... 40/#Review (http://www.blu-ray.com/movies/A-Bugs-Life-Blu-ray/3440/#Review%22%20onclick=%22window.open(this.href);return%20false;)

Now we're just waiting for Finding Nemo and The Incredibles. Maybe Nemo would be a good choice for the first Pixar Blu-ray 3D? It's a bit cheeky that wasn't Toy Story 3 really, which we'll end up having to buy again if 3D takes off.

Oh the UK is stilling missing a few?  I was under the impression we already had A Bug's Life and the other for ages (must have just been searching on US websites it seems).

Nemo would be a good choice for starting the Pixar 3D Blu-ray but you're right we should have got Toy Story 3 in 3D with the original release.  I guess though if Cameron and co. can rip us all off with releasing a million "special-super-extended-director's cut-3D-Blu-Ray-ultimate-we-want-your-money-editions" of Avatar anyone can..

The UK A Bug's Life blu-ray, it's real!

I think it was originally scheduled to be released early last year alongside Finding Nemo but for some reason disappeared. I really wouldn't be surprised to see Nemo and Incredibles on 3D discs this Summer. Of course that means the cycle starts again and we have to wait for A Bug's Life in 3D! Not that I even have a 3D TV...

After Toy Story 3 I received my second Disney Blu-Ray Disc: The Sorcerer's Apprentice.

Many will disagree, but I like the movie. It's entertaining and sometime I like just to watch fun movies without thinking and this one is such a movie. I think it is also a lot better than the other Jerry Bruckheimer movie of 2010 "Prince Of Persia".
Title: Re: Your Disney Blu-Ray Collection
Post by: Anthony on January 14, 2011, 04:01:26 PM
Funnily enough that Bug's Life blu-ray shows up on my PS3 as "A Bug's Life - 10th Anniversary Edition" and has an intro by John Lasseter (specifically mentioning the HD transfer) saying as such. So it's only about 3 years late! It's a great disc though, pretty much all the old 2-Disc DVD stuff on there and a very worthwhile new roundtable discussion.

It also has a trailer for Cars Toon: Mater's Tall Tales short films collection, which was released in the US back in November, stating "on DVD and Blu-Ray" but so far all I can find is a DVD edition (//http://www.amazon.co.uk/Cars-Toon-Maters-Tall-Tales/dp/B004C03THU/) due 14th March. I hope Disney UK (and probably Europe too) don't leave us out on a BD for that.

Sleeves, I tend to get them when ordering from play.com. I think the ones I haven't got sleeves on are the ones that were never sold with them in the first place. I agree that it's slightly annoying, makes the collection look a bit odd. What really bugs me is with the animations, half have "classic #??" on the side and half don't.

Oh and I've missed out on like 6 codes for the Disney movie rewards scheme :(

Title: Re: Your Disney Blu-Ray Collection
Post by: Anthony on July 06, 2011, 12:59:51 AM
I don't think we have a dedicated thread, so this is the best place to warn: The Incredibles blu-ray in the UK is only a single disc, not only missing the DVD and digital copy of the US version but a whole second disc of extras!

Of the Disc 2 extras listed here: http://www.blu-ray.com/movies/The-Incre ... 96/#Review (http://www.blu-ray.com/movies/The-Incredibles-Blu-ray/96/#Review%22%20onclick=%22window.open(this.href);return%20false;)
QuoteDeleted Scenes, Now in HD! (Disc 2, HD, 35 minutes): Five deleted scenes (presented via roughly animated storyboards), an equally unfinished fifteen-minute alternate opening, and a collection of introductions/commentaries (with Bird and Andrews) kick off Disc Two. As the title suggests, it's the first time the deleted scenes are presented in high definition.

The New Nomanisan: A Top Secret Redevelopment Plan (Disc 2, HD): Syndrome's island lair has been transformed into a family friendly getaway! Take a tour of "The New Nomanisan" and learn about the Shooting Range, the Self Defense Academy, Island Dining, Nomanisan Nightlife, the Hero Headquarters, Camp Nomanisan, Adventure Sports, Vow Renewals, and the Nomanisan Spa in a series of cheeky animated ads.

Paths to Pixar: Story Artists (Disc 2, HD, 6 minutes): The latest segment of Pixar's ongoing look to the talent behind the animation hones in on the story artists who worked on The Incredibles (among others).

Studio Stories: Gary's Birthday (Disc 2, HD, 2 minutes): "Gary is every man" in this amusing story told by the team who tried to maintain their sanity while working on Bird's superhero epic.

Ending with a Bang: Making the End Credits (Disc 2, HD, 2 minutes): Learn about the genesis and creation of the end credits sequence in this all-too-short featurette.

Making of The Incredibles (Disc 2, SD, 27 minutes): An entire section of Disc Two is devoted to previously released special features as well, the first of which is this lengthy, energetic jaunt behind the scenes.

Other Classic DVD Content (Disc 2, SD, 70 minutes): After plowing through the "Making of The Incredibles," dive into the remaining extras Disney has ported over from the original DVD release. The largely self-explanatory featurettes include "Story," "Character Design," "E-Volution," "Building Humans," "Building Extras," "Set Design," "Sound," "Music," "Lighting," "Tools," a "Mr. Incredible and Pals" animated short, a "Mr. Incredible and Pals" commentary with Mr. Incredible and Frozone, "NSA Audio Files and Stills," "Vowellett - An Essay by Sarah Vowell" and "Who is Bud Luckey?"

Easter Eggs (Disc 2, SD, 14 minutes): No need to hunt. The original DVD's easter eggs are nestled in a handy section all their own. Eggs include "Incredibles Socks," "Dancing Bob," "Cake," "Buttons and Doors," "Victor's Guards," "H3A - Classroom," "Angus' Guards," "Incrediblunders," "Frank & Ollie," "Ball & Scooter" and Markisms."

Publicity (Disc 2, SD, 14 minutes): A string of "Character Interviews" and a series of standard definition trailers and TV spots round out the classic DVD content.

Interactive Art Gallery (Disc 2, HD): Hundreds of production images are spread across six galleries: Character Design, Collages, Color Scripts, Lighting, Set Design and Storyboards.

Incredibles Teaser (Disc 2, HD, 2 minutes): The first Incredibles trailer is presented in high definition.
...The "Studio Stories: Gary's Birthday" and Making of the End Credits have been brought across to Disc 1, but the HD deleted scenes, art galleries, making of featurette, publicity, and all the classic DVD features are nowhere to be seen. This is really disappointing after the excellent Monsters Inc re-release last year. Are Disney UK really so cheap they need to cut the set down to a single disc? Are blu-ray discs really that expensive to produce?

The set was reduced in price from about £16 when I pre-ordered to £12 at release. To be honest I'd have happily paid £16 for the proper set!

Needless to say the address you need is wdshe.consumerrelations@disney.co.uk

Not that complaining will undo our shabby treatment here, but it might stop it in the future. The disc has a load of 1-star reviews on Amazon too...

Gahh, it was too late by the time I heard that the US disc was region free! Maybe I'll order it anyway. I must admit I'm one of those annoying people who hates having a whole line of UK discs with one American disc sat in the middle (or visa-versa).

Anyway, I just had a reply from Walt Disney Studios Home Entertainment UK!

QuoteThank you for you contacting Walt Disney Studios Home Entertainment. I do apologise for the delay getting back to you.

I am sorry that you feel disppointed by the special feature content featured on the UK release of The Incredibles Blu-ray. I have been in contact with one of my colleagues to find out the specific rationale behind the UK release and can tell you the following. In order to offer the best possible value Blu-ray to customers, Disney decided to cut down on the bonus content. Previous research had shown that allowing people to purchase high definition Blu-ray at an affordable price was key to our consumers. However, due to the fact that you are disappointed, we will be taking note of your complaint and re-evaluating this strategy in the future.

Thank you again for taking the time to send us your feedback which is extremely valuable to us.
Surely offering "the best possible value" would have been to actually include all the content...

Fingers crossed for a proper Nemo release then.

Urgh, I'm really starting to hate the UK division of Disney, all they do is ruin everything. Why is it we always have to wait several months for the cinema releases after America (apart from, oddly enough, Winnie the Pooh) and then get the worst blu-ray releases. Another example of major cut down was the Tron: Legacy release, what the actual hell, I think we missed out on loads of content there too. I'm so disappointed by the Incredibles release as it's probably my favourite Pixar film and I feel so let down by the blu-ray release after such a long wait. May send an email too, if we all start sending emails showing how annoyed we are by the lack of extras then they will really do something about it.

Do you mean the extras of POTC 4?

Yes that is disappointing. I just thought that's only the German version, but according to Amazon.com and Amazon.co.uk the English versions offer the same.

The first three came with a second disc of extras. At least the Blu Ray cost only 13 Euros, that was even cheaper than the DVD.

I will also include my Marvel blu-rays considering Disney now owns it (although the films are universal and lionsgate).
