Title: Non-Disney Artwork
Post by: MizzRabbit on August 20, 2008, 01:11:09 AM
I was thinking, on the Fanart thread many of you write that you've just finished this and this non-Disney drawing and I'd personally love to see all the rest of your artwork, so why not post it here for all to enjoy? :D I hope you will!

I'm not sure I'd call photographs artwork as such. Buy maybe we shuold just start a random photography thread then?? It's always nice to have a variety of creative threads to read.

And Phoebe, good luck with your trip! Hope it's dlrp too!!! :D

I would call photography an art form, as I'm sure so would everyone who does it for a living. Here's a pic I photoshopped for my mate's Bebo Page

well then, why not. The more different artwork threads we get going, the more likely Kristof will create an Artwork Section.

I know Captain Pan had already asked about one, but there was more need of a new section for Games at the time.

Why Yes... Yes I did... and at the time a new games area was more of a need... that an art area... If we get more Up and running I will again PM the head honcho and suggest it again...

But We'll have to wait and see...

But lets get these Topics up past 100 pages in the mean time eh?

I was thinking the other day about seperating my Tutorials from the Disney Artwork thread. Because they are different to the art work, if that makes sense?
Like the tutorials are meant as tutorials not pieces of art.... I don't think I'm making much sense here

Dunno if this is really artwork. I drew it once ( then photoshopped it a bit ) and was gonna get it done as a tatoo band around my arm. But at the moment, I'm no allowed to get any more ( I also want the Heroes symbol on my other arm)

Oooo how many tattoos do you have?

It's the first line of the One Ring inscripton. It's not quite elvish, its the evil Mordor version, although the characters are the same as the High-Elven Quenya.

I only have the one tattoo. It's a scorpion on my right shoulderblade. My wife doesn't like them, so no more till she changes her mind

That Sounds Like A Good Plan Sienna... (I would call you by your popper name but my mind tends to forget thinks these days!)...

With Tutorial topic then you could have members requesting tutorials also then, you could even ask others to give tutorials on how to draw other characters for you too, or they could post their on tutorials on how to draw other characters too!

Ultimately it would thin out the Fan Art Topic and as a result I wouldn't have got SO lost when I returned the other day from a small time off after my laptop went Crazy!

So is it this line? 'One Ring to rule them all'
I think the Elven writing is beautiful, and the designs of the sets in Lothlorien.
Did you find the tattoo painful?

Heres a drawing I did last year of Uruha from the Japanese band The Gazette.
He plays guitar.

Yeah I'll start it now, and I'll repost my first sets of tutorials.
It's a great idea to have other people doing tutorials too, as it would be a way of finding out how others draw aswell as how to draw the characters

Yeah, that's the translation. And yes it was sore, but only when the needle went over a bone. After about 15 mins, everything went numb.

I really like everyone's non-disney artwork - once again, Laura, I really admire your talent at drawing people - it is simply amazing.

It's been a couple of years since I have drawn somthing that was not disney. But when I was younger I used to draw animals and some other cartoons - e.g. Simpsons. I will just see if I can find any of these drawings and then post them.

It wasn't DLRP but it was fun! I didn't realise when my mum said "packed" she meant a picnic!  :P  I thought we were staying somewhere! We took the dogs and went to the beach for the day! It was really good (minus the sick, poo and crab body parts!)

We went to the beach, so we had a 2 and a half hour car journey, and Bonnie gets carsick. So halfway there, she threw up all over my jeans! (luckily we were prepared - Dog bags, kitchen roll and baby wipes!) so I didn't have to live with it for the whole day, then at the beach Clyde pooed on my brothers shoe (I thought it was funny!) and then we started walking along the beach. I kept picking up shells, and the dogs were barking for me to throw a stone for them, so I picked up what I thought was a stone...It was half a crab! A crabs body and claw! I screamed, threw it away, and then realised everyone on the beach was now staring at me!

Anyhoo, I got some shells that I want to draw, and I also did some tinkerbell sketches in the car! So, I hope to put some of those up!

Now I've found some non-disney drawings from when I was quite young - I think over 5 years ago... I also found some old disney drawings, which I will post on the disney artwork topic.

I used to draw animals all the time - here is a tucan:

... and here are some Macaws:

I've also done some Simpsons drawings earlier - here is one of Bart:

... and another one:

and here is the whole Simpsons family during christmas:

WOW! Those drawings of the simpsons are great!

And I LOVE her tiara/headress thing. Its really nice!

Yes, Bonnie and Clyde are quite entertaining dogs! They kept running away from the wave whenever it came up the beach! Oh, and a really funny part of the trip, was when we had just set off, and my dad turned the radio on and it said "Bienvenue!" and my dad goes "We've got that far already?" and my mum yelled "DISNEYLAND JUST AROUND THE CORNER!!!"

That has always been a plan of mine to write something that they'd pick up and create... with me making the money for typing a few thousand words... and starring in it too as the voice of the Prince... with Possibly Miss Tisdale or Maybe Ms. Cyrus (who ever would win in a fight really) as the princess... But yet they'd need a soft singing voice.... so Tisdale Wins (withot the need for getting a black eye)... with Rees Witherspoon as the Mother... and James Earl Jones the Father... Just can't think of an actor to play the villain either male or female!

Aww cool!
I love Reese Witherspoon.
For the villain you could have someone like Jeremy Irons or Alan Rickman or maybe Tim Curry. Or a lady villain could be Glenn Close maybe... haha That's the only person I can think of!

Quote from: "Pete's Dragon"Question : Does the different coloured eyes relate to your story in some way ?
Yeah, she's meant to be really quite 'earthy' and her personality is devided, as she is grounded and level headed, but can easily become rapid and quick. So it's like one represents the earth and the other the water. It was just to show some sort of subtle conflict within her.  :)

I really like your character too Laura. Have you tried drawing her different ways and playing a little with her characteristics? She's a little too pretty, if you know what I mean?

I've also always wanted to write a Disney story that they'd make into a movie. As I kid I actually wrote the base of a story and it just hist me that maybe I should finish it. It's about a kid who's been kidnapped by pirates. And her sidekick is a parrot. This idea was way before the PotC movie but it still might work anyway.

Maybe we should make a Disney Stories thread?

Btw guys, I'm sick AGAIN! Last time it was food poisoning and now I have a cold and a sore throat. I hate being in bed all the time. There's so much I want to do.

Aww yeah I have. I've got ones of random things from throughout my story.
Yeah I think I know what you mean. I wanted her to be really quite pretty as she's going to be in strong contrast to everyone in the story, as she's different to everyone else. I really must get back to writing the story I'm only 22pages in    :(
I keep getting writers block though  :x    :(
I've drawn what my character would look like in more realistic ways too =]

Aww cool!
You should deffinately get back to it!

Maybe the thread would be a cool idea =]

I'm ill too!!
I'm not very happy I keep throwing up  :(  :(  :(
So I'm going to bed after posting this lol

Your further than me... I have text to put into my story... and so far I have the description for all characters (Main) involved... some actual story dialog... just having the problems with names...

So far my story is 1625 WORDS! So Only 9000 short of a short story!
Sienna expect a PM with a Crazy Request... concerning my story... maybe it'll help me knock some more out!...

Aww I'm sure you'll get into it and propper speed off writing. Thats what I did, and I just realised I actually have 26 pages which is 15,436 words, which is only 8 chapters.

But if It were in a book, the pages would be smaller, by about half (A5 not A4) so I always end up doubling the pages...makes me feel better as then it's 52 pages haha!
I want my story to be really long  :D

I'm looking out for the PM  :)

Ooo and I'm currently working on a new drawing of my character =]
I'll post it when I've finished

Aww wow MinniesBestPal that rose is so beautiful!
I love the colour :D
I like roses that aren't always red, I think it's great that they are different :D

I really like white roses.

Heres a piece of work I've been working on today, as I haven't been able to draw as my thumb really needs to heal cause I'm fed up of it hurting and bleeding...so I decided to colour an image I drew a while ago.
Useing Photoshop CS2 I coloured the girl in and created the background.

It's no where near completed yet though =]

I really like your own characters Laura, they have just same quality that some of Walt Disney's characters and they especially remind me of Atlantis (don't know if it is intended or just in my eyes) They are amazing! :D

Yeah my story has been inspired lightly by Atlantis, so it should reflect in the characters too. I liked the clothing styles of Atlantis and the whole Tribalness of it all too...and so that's what I've taken over into my own work.  :)

Good job guys! Please keep posting!

Here's some of my little things:

^my best drawing ever, as far as technical stuff goes.

^Class assignment-I had to make a self-portrait but basically in some sort of fantasy style to show some meaningful imagery about my personality/life. I would love to explain every little thing but not sure if anyone is interested so I don't want to waste the time...

I have more but don't want to give it all away up front hehe.

Well as long as someone requested it I don't feel like I'm being concieted or whatever. So here it is...The background, though not very well done, is supposed to be the aurora borealis, which I want to see someday, it's nothing more than that. The dress I am wearing is a Lolita-style dress which is really important to me, it's what I'm known for, and it's a particular dress which was my first real Loli dress and I have been known to wear probably too much...heh...
I am sitting on a mushroom because I love and identify with Alice in Wonderland...it is the book I have read the most times in my life, I always come back to it, no matter my age, and I have always loved many elements of those stories (Wonderland and Through the Looking Glass), the imagery, the characters, etc...
The cat is simply my pet cat Stinky but he is smiling like the Cheshire cat from Alice...
He is sitting on top of a cell from my first-ever hand-drawn animated (very short) film I made in school, which was about a bunny that fell in love with an Olive...
He is holding a mouse, which is a play on words, but also shows the significance of the computer in my life, since I was the first of my friends that I know of that had the internet, things like that...my Dad's a computr nerd so I caught onto that early as well :p
My doll is Keirsten, the American Girl doll (AGs are basically dolls based on fictional girls each set in a different time in American history and a different ethnicity) and she is the doll whose last name is the same as my mother's maiden name, she is from Sweden so I identify with her in that sense, and I love dolls, and she is dressed in a Girl Scout uniform, which is something I have been involved with my whole life.
If you look where my gaze is directed you can see some stars forming a Mickey silhouette and that is because I have always dreamed of-and am now just beginning to work towards-my goal of working for WDI!

That is basically everything. It is not incredibly complicated or deep but that's it, you have it there.

Heres another installment =]

This drawings proving to be really quite difficult.
I'm taking one of my old teachers 'rulings' and I'm not smudging anything as she's always told me that 'its cheating' so...theres no 'cheating' on this one. Which is making it harder as I like working with a mechanical pencil, as it has a finer point and so...it's taking me really quite a long time to shade in areas, being really careful of the pressure etc so that it all blends well.

I've finally found some time and inspiration to draw again!
Its a pretty bad image at the moment, I'm not happy with it at all, but its just the basics at the moment. Hopefully after adding detail and other shading it will look more realistic and actually good
Also because its just a faint starting outline, I've had to darken it quite a lot, so that the lines are actually visible.
So here we go...
I'm hoping to finish it sometime tomorrow/Tuesday

Very good indeed, what pencil did you use for the initial sketching [HB/F]  :?:

Also which 'B' pencils did you use for the more formal outline around the eyes and the shading.. :)

I'm just using a HB pencil for it all, and using different pressures and layers to build up the shadows. I used to use a range of pencils until I lost them lol! now I quite like just using the one shade and being able to create the rest with pressure etc.
Its also a mechanical pencil I'm using, which means its a very tiny piece of graphite

Mmmmm, interesting in the use of pressure with just the one pencil.    :D

I recently bought a set which I've been trying out, they contain the following: 4H, 2H, H, HB, F, B, 2B, 3B, 4B, 5B, 6B, 8B. beyond 8B I'd be definitely on charcoal sticks..  :D

Really good sketching set after trying them I must say.. :)

I've really missed drawing and I can't wait to go to bed have some nice dreams and then start to draw and write again oooo and possibly read

See I can only use HB, did do Technical Drawing, and then I could only Use the various grading of H or suffer a hair drying treatment from the teacher who would promptly take your pencil away and force you to use one of his small overly sharpened pencils that lasted a further 6 Seconds when you apply pressure!

Now good Sir we want Art Work, the host needs to supply his own gallery with Iconic Works!

Laura the Shading looks Great so far... Got to wait and see the puzzle complete itself! Nice to see you starting the shading with the most important part of any character... The Eyes! In My opinion the eyes of a piece of work tell the story for the entire piece, along with holding the Soul of the Subject, and if done correctly hold part of the Artists Soul within it!

When you open the stages in Photoshop and make them all on the same file thing...like with the layers. then you open it in ImageReady, which is in the File section thing. Then you can edit the animation by adding a new frame on the animation timeline thing, and then altering the opacity of the image and so on. =]

Me and a friend of mine talked about the many penguins in animated movies the last couple of years and mainly how cute and cuddly they are, so we decided that I should make a tribute to these cute creatures, who seem to bring succes to every animation studio, who use them (wow, that was a long explanation )

I give you "Peguins Rule Animation":

Step 7 and I'm sooooo tired right now, I was really hoping to finish this before I go to bed, but I don't think the quality will be good if I push it too much. So I'm hoping to finish the skin so I've just got the hair to do tomorrow =]

Last one before bed, though I haven't finished the skin which I'm not happy about. But I could see how badly the next was going, and the fact that it took me an hour to do...I decided to stop after that.

I've just spent another hour this morning working on the drawing. Not much has changed for an hour, but the forehead is the worst part I think.

Lol thanks, but it is the worst part, and the hardest to do because theres not much shading to do, its mainly the same tone in the middle and its hard to do the same tone as the pressure is very light.
I'm going to try and finish it tonight after the photoshoot

But I'd love to own a gallery/shop/cafe!
Although you're all welcome to come to the Degree Show in about 2 years
And if I win a competition I've entered I could get a photograph on a book!
And if I just get picked as a finalist for another I get to be part of an exhibition in London.
And I've been contacted by someone in Australia to do illustrations for her book...so there could be many a way to spy me

But I think we need to meet up at some point for sure! Possibly during the summer when us studants are off and if we did it at a weekend then it would be good for the workers

I can't look at this drawing anymore. Its making my head spin .

I keep asking myself  'how'd see get the hair sooo perfect?' , how'd she do those eyes?'  and  'how do you shade like that?'

As I cant comprehend the answer to any of these questions, it makes my head go Kcfoidhvoisdoancdowohoiaaaaa!!!!!

What's the english term for when you experience to conflicting emotions at once, cause that's what I've got. Spellbound by the level of artist skill on show, and Extreme envy cause I couldn't do it myself

Lol       Thank you so much :D
The hair is quite simple but annoyingly repetative. You basically go from the top starter point and swipe outwards gently with the pencil then you do it from the base starter point and meet somewhat in the middle or where ever you want the shine to appear. Then you go over it another 2 times with increasing pressure to create darker strands of hair, making sure you leave certain areas the shade you did before for the shine :)

Then with the eyes its mainly the shading that does that. The shading is pretty similar to the hair, but instead of lines its lots and lots of continuous connective circles with different pressures and different layers to create the shadows etc. The shading can be quite annoying because I don't allow myself to smudge/blend with my finger, everything has to be done by pressure and layers   So when it comes to a part like the shoulder its very annoying because I need a continous shade and getting that's quite difficult. Thats why the faces are the most fun to do

I hope that makes it a little less Kcfoidhvoisdoancdowohoiaaaaa, in your head Pete's Dragon

Its quite easy when you know how.

1) Filmed myself setting the cup down, then walk off screen. Letting the camera run, I walked around, sat down and waited for a few seconds and then lifted the cup up again.

2)Loaded the video onto the computer. Using Windows MovieMaker I cut the video into Parts A + B (A: setting down the cup. B: lifting it up)

3)Loaded Part A over the top of Part B. And here's were it gets technical....

4) On Part B, you select the bits you DONT want see. Beacuse there is another layer beneath (Part A), it replaces the blanked out bits with the other video. So the cup is sitting on the table the whole time, but there's a big square on the top of it blocking it from being seen.

5) When the cup is set down in Part A, the square is removed from Part B. The square is then placed over Part A (so when the cup is lifted, it doesnt appear on the table too).

That's as best as I can explain it without diagrams + pictures. Hope you can get your head around it   :) .

I'm now trying to figure out how I can throw a ball to myself  :?

Wow I'm still confused lol :)
could you throw the ball one way then throw it the other but reverse that one so it goes backwards?

Sadly cant reverse the film ( I think ). The best I can come up with is I film myself throwing the ball, then get Jasmine to throw the ball to me. Put them together and erase Jasmine. The only problem is matching the trajectory of the ball on both parts

Yeah good point, but couldn't you only show the ball from Jasmine's throw as it reaches your hands, because you could throw to her at first, then have markers on the floor so you both can just swap places, then the ball is going to go in a similar way, aslong as you both use the same sort of pass too maybe?

Or, if I had some proper animation software I wouldn't even need a real ball (sadly I dont). Could draw the ball, apply a texture to it etc. (too much work)

Lol, that would look really funny if the neighbours saw us. Jasmine on the left flapping her arm up in a throwing motion, and me catching the imaginary ball. Then swapping round. 5mins later the Social Health Van would probably arrive

You'd need 3d Studio Max or something like that for the ball I think. I've used it before it makes digital 3d objects and you can txture them etc  :)

You should just try it anyway haha!

Today I began the work on my sister's wedding present. My mom and dad are giving them a trip to London, so I am giving them "A Musical Experience" as I call it. Basically it is just a gift card now worth two theatre tickets on their trip to London.

I am doing this giftcard in Photoshop as a selftought photoshop amateur, but I will be posting the progress on here anyway. The work of the first day:

Nicolai... Great Progress... It's visually stunning... But there is one Small Problem...

The Joseph and his Amazing Technicoloured Dreamcoat picture is now the Old one... The Actor who played/won the role Lee Meed has been replaced by 2001 Pop Idol runner-up and the man who Gave Lilo and Stitch "Suspicious Minds" in the Uk... G... G... Gar... Gareth G... G... Gareth Gates

There is another Musical you could pop on there... Oliver... It "currently" has 'I'd Do Anything" winner Jodie Something or other as Nancy... and Mr Bean himself Rowan Atkinson as Fagin

There are some more... but I can't think of them right now

Thanks for the comments and suggestions guys - they are appreciated.

I still have a lot of shows to include, so it will be way more "filled" - the only ones that are absolutely done is Dirty Dancing, Avenue Q, Billy Elliot and Spring Awakening - the others might still be edited or added to.

Thank you very much Sophie and Laura - I really appreciate it. Unfortunately I haven't seen enough of these musicals in London. Actually out of these I have just seen WWRY and Lion King in London. I have however watched Grease, Les Miserables, Phantom in Denmark and Hairspray, Mamma Mia and of course Billy Elliot as movies.

Well as today was my final hand in I decided to do some drawing =]
It took me two hours to do this....
Well...I'd done a little more - like both of the eyes were fully shaded! and so yeah 2 hours to draw the outline and do the eyes...[its A3 so I can get more detail]

Then...Chilli scratches it! and its unsaveable

Sooo...I have to start again
And heres the outcome...
I'm not as please with it as the other one...but I can't really fix that because nothing would be as good as the first =[

I used to be a huuuuge fan of Anime and Manga and have about 14 how do draw Manga books upstairs, then I love Disney too...so I kinda think its a blend of the 2 styles. Or at least that's what makes sense to me with it.
The long slender stuff I've seen in a few Japanese programs etc along with the big eyes. but then I love Disney's way of drawing soft curved noses etc =] and making the figures still curvy. I think thats it lol!
I'd love to digitalize my work but...I'm not very good with photoshop what so ever and don't have a drawing tablet so I'd most certainly suck more so

I'm actually starting to like drawing hands! lol I hated them and still do sometimes I guess but I'm starting to like them more.

I've been working on my story as many people know, and because of this I've been researching [collecting images] clothes etc, so I've been designing the clothes for the characters in the story =]
Clearly I'm not a fashion designer...  but it works for the job its been created.

This one is actually something I've done for the second book...which hasn't actually been written yet! But I have all the plans ready

Contrary to how it looks, the main fabric of the dress...won't be see through lol!

Hmmm I'm not sure this can be classified as artwork but I'll put it here anyway! One of my other hobbies (besides drawing) is cross stitching. Well, tonight is a momentous occasion - I have finally finished my biggest project to date, that has been ongoing for almost 7 years  :D/

(Sorry about the blurred pic, I have a rubbish camera!) It does need washing though as the fabric is stained a little at the top :( I usually only do a little bit at a time of these as it's so painstaking and a killer for the eyes, but yesterday I saw the light at the end of the tunnel with this one and so I've been stitching for pretty much two days straight!   My head hurts so badly now but the end result is worth it, the picture doesn't really do it justice! :)

Well, here's another piece I thought I'd just add. It's Twilight/New Moon fanart... It's all about Bella's desires, dreams and fears but I wont go into any details as I don't want this to be a spoiler.

EDIT: Just remembered the spoiler function. Here's what the picture means: [spoiler:1fnkn7yg]The right half of Bella's face represents the human part, the part that can grow old and die, whiter away. The other half is the cold pristine vampire half, the part she longs for the most. The red lines represent the surface cracking, her dreams turning to dust as Edward leaves her and everything she desires vanishes. Well, that's it I suppose. I'm a nerd![/spoiler:1fnkn7yg]

Aww thanks  It's not hard to learn to do as such, you just have to have a lot of patience and be able to follow a pattern! I do know people who make their own designs, I'm not quite that good yet though! Someday I hope to be...! I've just started my latest project, which is.... a Disney one!! Hopefully it won't take 7 years to complete this time!

Thanks!
I've got about 4 others on the go at the moment too. I'm trying to get at least 1 portrait of every character from my Trilogy done.

I started this drawing today, I didn't intend for Sienna to look sad but as the drawing progressed she just started to look it. So now I'm just going with it.

I've finally finished the drawing I've been working on (well one of the drawings I've been working on)

Close up

This drawing is actually A3 and it took me a while to get the shading done because her back was a lot of bare skin with little shadow on it. So the way in which I shade my work was made 10 times harder because I was having to be very careful about the change in pressure and general movement.

I've not been on here for some time, which isn't what I wanted. I wanted to be able to come back to the forum more regularly. But because I've set myself deadlines for certain projects I'm finding it hard to come here much as I like to sit back and read things which takes more time.
Sooo, lately I've been dabbling in digital painting for the front of my first book which I'm going to get printed myself just so I have a hard copy of it. I'm self taught with the digital painting and am just tackling it as it comes.
Here's a Work in progress shot of the book cover.

It still needs A LOT of work but it's slowly getting there

Ooo and with this, as its my first time really trying it with a graphics tablet..I used a reference of a photo of Megan Fox.

Wow, that's amazing

I got a Wacom Bamboo tablet for Christmas, so I've been trying a lot of digital art lately too. I've also been trying to draw more realistic things for a change:

A portrait I did of Emilie Autumn (I'm not sure if anyone's heard of her?)

oh wow =] the drawings in this thread are awsome =] i love that theres a non disney artowrk thread, i dont really do disney drawings except for a random drawing if mickey mouse i have on my wall, i tend to draw anime more to be honest, i draw digitally with the touch pad mouse on my laptop using jasic paintshop pro 8 =] and occasionally i use my graphics tablet, depending on what im drawing.

so heres my two cents, i will up load a picure i am working on as i go along =]

this is a picture of a set of twins called Kaoru and Hikaru from an anime called Ouran High School Host Club

i love this picture most of all the ones i have done.... im not sure about their pose, but after about 3-4 hours of drawing i didnt care any more and doubted very much i would be able to do their eyes that good again =] and i did the shading on hikaru's shirt a little too heavy... =]

well you have one person who likes it and would love to see your artowrk =]

you have an avid anime fan who draws art work, watches anime, cosplays and reads and writes more fanfiction than is probably healthy =]

Decided to have a go at doing something on photoshop. I did the sketch on paper, scanned it in, and am currently working on outlining it at the moment  :D Here's the sketch, it's myself if I were a game/roleplay/whatever character XD This is how I would look, and my weapon would be a scythe :3

There's some really good work on here. Burntsienna, you're portraits are awesome. I was just scanning through some of my sketchbooks and thought I'd upload some stuff. The first ones are tattoos that I have designed for myself. I'm just waiting for my apprentice to get better then I'll let him tattoo them onto me. I'd do it myself but I want them on the side of my calf and can't sit down in a comfortable enough position to tattoo them.

This is Our Lady of Guadalupe. I didn't want it in the traditional style, so I did my own. It needs a bit of cleaning up before putting it to skin.

This is a tattoo machine that I drew when I got a bit bored in the shop one day.

I designed the cupcake for my wife but I've yet to tattoo that on her yet.

The turtle is just something I drew one night when there was nothing on TV.

Cheers. I love what you've drawn. Would be quite cool to do that as a tattoo as it's a bit mad. I finally got the tattoo machine above done on my leg on thursday.
