Title: Disney Store in Amsterdam
Post by: Remco K. on April 22, 2008, 08:10:42 PM
So, in the topic Does DLRP abandon germany? (//http://www.photosmagiques.com/forum/viewtopic.php?f=3&t=3579&start=90) it seemed like I totally bashed the idea of having a Disney Store in The Netherlands. But every negative side must have a positive as well. And so here's a plan how I could see a Disney Store work in Amsterdam.

De Dam, possible the most famous landmark of Amsterdam. Lots of tourists set foot on De Dam each year. De Dam is also a place for many artist to perform small acts to earn a little money. Connected to De Dam are also De Bijenkorf (a large well-known Dutch warehouse), Madame Tussauds and the beginning of the Kalverstraat, which is one of the many shopping streets. The Disney Store should get a location somewhere close to all of this.

Important of this location is the number of Dutch AND tourists it will attract.

In case a Disney Store will ever be opened in The Haque, I was thinking of a nice location at the Grote Markt. Possibly kicking out Bart Smit (large Dutch toy store chain) of it's location and making way for Disney Store? :P

There used to be a Disney Store in Amsterdam and Antwerp.

Hmm I think I've been to De Dam a few years ago.

I just remember those street artists, a LOT of trams and a LOT of people. We couldn't move.

Great spot. There's also a big department store or something just at the top of that aerial isn't there?

Can you tell us more about those stores? I've never heard anything about them, and couldn't find information through Google as well.

Were they official Disney Stores?

That's the Paleis op de Dam (Palace on the Dam). It was build between 1648 and 1665 as the city hall of Amsterdam. It's serving as a palace since 1808.

The building noted as 'Bijenkorf' is actually a large department store.

Maybe Baloo is talking about Magna Plaza? Although its not a large department store, but rather a chique shopping mall.

I would probably locate a Disney Store on the edge of Kalverstraat and De Dam. If I remember correctly, there's a Fame music store on that particular spot. Or maybe the current ABN-Amro Bank on the other side of De Dam square is a good spot aswell?

I'm not too sure about a Disney Store in The Hague though, I think I would prefer a Disney Store in De Koopgoot in Rotterdam.

Well at first because one of the best Disney selling merchandise shops is already in Scheveningen. (Sorry...it's called the Acme Store. They sell so much great cartoon stuff!! And a lot of exclusive Disney stuff)
Second, because The Hague is the political capitol of the netherlands.
Third, The Hague has so much more class as Rotterdam ( :P )
Picture the Disney Store in he Passage??? Oh yeah! :D

And well....ok....just because it's my hometown really :P

I've been to that store once if I remember correctly, its next to the Pathe cinema right? They indeed sell great movie inspired products.

Wow, that would be amazing. The Hague is very classy indeed, no denialling about that, especially compared to Rotterdam. The Passage would be a very classy location for a Disney Store.
