Title: Travelling from CDG to DLP at night
Post by: 15stitch on April 15, 2019, 12:29:02 PM
Hi,

I've booked flights from Luton to CDG on 15th June.  The flight departs at 7pm and lands at 9.25pm.

The magical shuttle coach transfer doesn't run that late and the last CDG train is at 10pm.

I know you can take the RER train, but I don't really fancy doing that at night (its just me and my 6 year old son travelling).

So, my question is has anyone taken this flight and made it on to the last CDG train?   Or is this just utter madness and I should just book a transfer?  And if so which company would you recommend?

Any advice would be very welcome. Thank you.

My flight in May lands at a similar time. I didn't want to risk the last TGV, I can't remember exactly when it leaves but I felt like it was cutting it too fine. I booked a transfer with Rideways as i've used them in other countries and got on fine with them. There may be cheaper alternatives but I'm not sure who.
I normally take the RER, it's pretty straight forward but it takes a while compared to a car transfer. And i'd be the same as you, that time of night and with a 6 year old, you'd be better off with a transfer.
It's one less thing to think about once it's all booked.

If I was on that flight, I wouldnt bother trying to get to Disney that late. I would book a cheap hotel at CDG Airport for the following reasons

1. Arriving that late, and then having to travel to Disney would just be too exhausting, especially with a child

2. If you have booked a Disney package you have lost 1 park day

3. If you stay at an airport hotel, you can get the 9.00am Magic Shuttle and be in the park at approx 11am , making the most of your arrival day. Your Disney hotel room most likely wont be available, but you can leave your bags in the hotel luggage store and get your park tickets

4. Information about hotels at CDG Airport http://easycdg.com/hotels-cdg-airport-de-gaulle/

Thanks.  I definitely don't want to stay at the airport that night.  I've got an annual pass and we want to be in the parks for magic hours on the sunday morning.

I'm now actually considering changing my flight to an earlier one.  I think the cost of changing it will be about the same as the cost of a private transfer.

Lesson learned!

The magic shuttle recommends a company called "Super shuttle" I got the price to around €56 for a shared shuttle

It was £100 for 2 adults return transfer in a private car for me. A crazy price when you really break it down but for the big time and hassle difference to taking the RER it was worth it for us as we are arriving late too. RER isn't that cheap either when you have to go from zone 5 to zone 1 and back out to zone 5 again.

So if you can change your flight + magic shuttle cost for less than £100 i'd say go for it otherwise look into Rideways private transfers. It'll be less than £100 for you as I think they charge less for children. Maybe do a quick search of your dates, times etc.

17.20€ isn't cheap, but a lot cheaper than 50GBP

True but £50 is for two people one way. I could pay 35euro instead of £50, that's normally how I do it, but this time I just wanted the quicker journey and didn't fancy the two RER journeys at that time of night. It's what, 70 mins on the RER and 35 by private transfer? For the sake of ease and comfort and time I'll pay the extra £35 for the car to the airport and back this time. For earlier flights, I'd always take the RER.

Sorry, I missed the part that that was the fare for both travellers.

You can get the same price for an Uber trip, which is significantly faster. :)

So, after much deliberation, I've decided to change our flight to an earlier one.  We now arrive at a more civilised 17.35, which gives us more options and means that I can hopefully enjoy a Birthday Dinner in DLP.

We got a taxi the last time booked in advance, got met as we left arrivals by the driver, and for 2 of us only cost £5 more than it would have on the magic shuttle.

PS. our flight was in after the last shuttle which is why I looked into taxis in the first place. Won't be getting magic shuttle again, taxi was much more convenient, quicker and more comfortable, and for a family of 4 would be significantly cheaper.
