Title: Disney’s Enchanted Christmas 2017 - New Shows
Post by: claire2281 on August 29, 2017, 04:34:07 PM
Thanks to Jorien at Disney Kind of Day and a Dutch Disney magazine we've got our first insight into the Christmas offering.

So far the new things listed are:

Goofy's Incredible Christmas - A new evening show with Disney characters telling a Christmas story projected on the Hollywood Tower Hotel.

A Merry Stitchmas - A new show at the Royal Castle Stage with Mickey & friends helping Stitch learn the meaning of Christmas by singing songs.

Sing a Merry Christmas - A new daily show with Mickey, Minnie & friends singing well known Christmas songs, a few times a day at the WDS.

Definitely so far seems like Christmas will fair better alongside the 25th than Halloween will.

Looking good. I was starting to worry after seeing what's in offer for Halloween.

Now I can't read Dutch but from the scan of the magazine this came from it seems that we're also getting:

- A Christmas big band in Videopolis with Mickey and Minnie
- A Christmas parade
- The tree lighting ceremony
- Frozen Sing Along returns

Interestingly it mentions Illuminations but doesn't say it's a Christmas version. Perhaps they're leaving it as it is what with the new show in the Studios.

Yes it's running through until January.

An extra to add:

Merry Stitchmas will REPLACE both of the 25th shows until January 8th so anyone booking for the 25th stuff should be aware that the shows aren't on.

Hardly surprising given the fact they have 2 parades to fit in as well and the daylight hours are much shorter in December.

Would've been nice to see them in person, rather than on blogs, but its a new show that's replacing it so it's not like they are stopping them for nothing. I would've been gutted if there was no parade, either of the parades.

Only because the daily Halloween Cavalcade/parade is not happening this year due to 25th anniversary.

I'm Dutch. Let me see what I can do for you.... (This is all roughly translated!)

25 Reasons why Disney this winter will be amazing.

1. To do new things.
Disney celebrates its 25th anniversary this year, but this years Christmas will be extra special, because of the many many Christmas shows and decorations.

2. There will be an all new Disney Stars On Parade as well.

3. To be shot into space.
Space Mountain was turned into Star Wars Hyperspace Mountain. This legendary rollercoaster has both the Star Wars soundtrack and all the special light effects.

4.To watch the princesses dance.
Tinkerbell will lead the princesses in front of the castle in a musical fairytale, named The Starlit Princess Waltz.

5. To taste a unique Christmas atmosphere.
Mickey, Minnie and friends will (together with Santa) lead a happy Sing-A-Long and will light the giant Christmas tree on Townsquare.

6. The new show; Merry Stitchmas.
Stitch will be the host of a new magical show on the stage next to the castle. There will be loads of surprises. Mickey, Minnie and friends will teach Stitch the meaning of Christmas through songs.

7. To find your dark side.
Do you dare to take a picture with Darth Vader?

8. To re-explore Star Wars.
Go back in time and experience the highlights op the classic 2D-film Star Wars: Path of the Jedi.

9. To hug Santa (Only until Dec. 25th.)
This is your chance to take a selfie with Scrooge, Thumper and Miss Bunny. You can even meet Santa!

10. To watch the magic Christmas parade.
This parade makes a big comeback and spreads the magical winter all over the park. There is snow on Mainstreet USA and Mickey and Minnie will be preparing to celebrate Christmas in style together with singers and other Disney friends.

(THE CHRISTMASTREE WILL BE 24 METERS HIGH!)

11. To discover a galaxy far far away
Star Tours: The Adventure Continues will make a big comeback. There will be a 3D spacejourney, with over 70 (!) possible missioncombinations.

12. A new nighttime show: Goofy's Incredible Christmas
Let Goofy's new show (with Disney friends) surprise you as they tell you a breathtaking Christmas story on the Hollywood Tower of Terror.

13. To feel like a pirate
The Pirates ride has had a huge make-over and now features Jack Sparrow.

14. To see stunning illusions
Mickey and the Magician is back. This show has even gotten an IAAPA Brass Ring Award for best theaterproduction in the category Themeparks.

15. To discover the new cuisine.
In the heart of the Pirates ride, you'll find Captain Jack's Restaurant des Pirates, where you can eat Creole food.

16. To enjoy a special Wintershow.
Queen Elsa and Princess Anna will present a musical blizzard in their Frozen Sing a Long. You can also enjoy the wintery marketsquare.

17. To meet Cpt. Jack Sparrow.
World's most famous pirate will be wandering around the park. Pose with him, a lovely memory. But beware - before you know it, he's emptied your pockets.

18. For the new Christmas show: Sing me a Merry Christmas
Sing famous carols with Mickey, Minnie and friends in this amazing show. It will be on a couple times a day in de WDS.

19. For Mickey's Big Band.
Warm up your vocal chords during this live Christmasconcert, starring Mickey, Minnie and a jazzband in the Videopolis.

CHRISTMAS IN DISNEY
CHRISTMAS IN DISNEY HAS NEVER BEEN AS BIG AS THIS YEARS (NOVEMBER 11TH - JANUARI 7TH). IN WDS GOOFY WILL TURN THE HOLLYWOOD TOWER OF TERROR INTO A SPECTACULAR NIGHTSHOW WITH SPECIAL EFFECTS, CALLED MAPPING TECHNOLOGY. DURING THE DAY, YOU CAN BUMP INTO DISNEY FRIENDS IN THEIR CHRISTMAS OUTFITS AND THERE WILL DAILY BE VARIOUS MUSICAL PRODUCTIONS ON PRODUCTION COURTYARD SQUARE.

20. To shop.
There will be exclusive 25th anniversary merch available.

21. To not miss any photo ops.
The photo points will lead you to the most amazing settings. There is also a photopass system, that lets you collect all your pictures and download them online.

22. To enjoy the winter nights.
After closing time, you can still wander around the Disney Village. You can watch Buffalo Bills show, eat at Vapiano's or dance in Billy Bob's Saloon.

23. To watch the fireworks
The new show Illuminations is more than just fireworks. Mickey animates the castle with images of Disney classics, Star Wars and Pirates with numerous special effects.

24. To enjoy an extra hour of magic during the Extra Magic Time.
If you stay in a Disney hotel, you're allowed in the parks an hour early. What a service. Typical Disney.

25. To, to, to....
Let's be honest. The best reason to honour Disney with a visit is always your own reason to go.

THE RED BAR IS IF YOU WANT TO BOOK THROUGH VERONICA MAGAZINE.

No. It is closed for 11 days at the start of the Christmas season but general feeling is that's just a normal maintenance period as that isn't long enough to do the upgrade normally.

Off to Disneyland Paris in November, love reading about the Christmas stuff! Is there any news on if there will be any new floats for the Christmas parade as for previous years they have been adding to it each year!

The float with Huey, Dewey and Louie will be altered a bit, but no new floats this year.
But there are quite a few additions to the season, so we can't complain!

Maleficent's flamethrower is also a problem there!

Don't think there's any official word yet, just speculation. Personally I think some of the floats are too high but it may be possible to put the garlands higher. Maleficent though would likely have to be flame-less down Main Street for the duration of the season too; that'd be way too risky.

It's likely that they won't be up because it clashes with the 25th anniversary decorations, who are staying.
The same as for Halloween.

Possibly.

Though with the 25th anniversary shows being sidelined for Christmas entertainment I wouldn't be surprised to see some of the decorations go too. We'll find out in a couple of weeks.

Interesting. Haven't seen that myself. Probably missed it whilst at work. Bearing in mind the tree is still there'll be some extra Christmas sparkle added to the area even if the lamppost decorations etc remain.

So apparently Main Street will be decorated and there will still be garlands but the design team were told they have to fit in with the blue/silver theme of the 25th decorations. A video from DLP themselves mentions snow garlands so I suspect we're seeing all new decorations that take into account the size of Stars on Parade. Whether they're actually across the street I suppose depends upon realistically how high they can mount them.

And now we see all the decorations going up - including garlands! - in a blue/silver theme. Some look a bit odd at the moment when placed on the green grass but will look much better once there's a white floor in place.

Yup! The toy factory float is being redesigned:

I'm a bit 50/50 on the soundtrack change just because I LOVE the ridiculously catchy current one but at the same time it will still be Christmas music so I'm sure it'll be great.

Having watched some of the first Christmas video's for this year, it's looking good, you can clearly see that whilst the decorations are now adopting the blue/silver theme of the 25th they are still the original Mickey head design of the last few years. Does this mean the taller floats of "Stars on Parade" wont be running or are the garlands higher up? Is the "Stars on Parade" parade not running at Christmas? Anyone?

It's running just fine and exactly the same as normal.  :)

Apparently our Main Street garlands have always been much higher than ones at the US parks so no issue at all with Stars on Parade (which looks amazing in the dark!)

Sounds 'Grown Up' with a message to 'Love One Another.'

I wish that I could find the lyrics.

I really like it!

I loved the last one too (especially 'We Need A Little Christmas') so I was a bit apprehensive about them changing it but this new one is sweet and catchy. It's got loads of energy to it which is great for the parade.

I think I've got the lyrics from the chorus mostly from listening to it too many times already:

Let there be love for one another
Let there be laughter ringing through the air
Let there be peace and understanding
As we celebrate this special time of year
Let there be light shining down upon us
Let there be time to make the memories we'll share
The wish that we make on this holiday
Sends the message loud and clear
Christmas is here

Sounds awesome, we're only a week from going and my bag is already packed. Question for anyone who's been this Christmas season, in previous years Disney Dreams had a festive overlay, is this true of Illuminations or is the Christmas projection show the one in the Studios? I love the idea that the Studios is finally celebrating Christmas but it will seem very strange if Illuminations doesn't have festive elements.

There's a very short Christmas lights addition to the show just before Illuminations starts, otherwise it remains the same as the normal version.

That's good to know, thanks. I guess the next thing to ask is, is there enough time to see the Christmas projection on the TOT and then to make your way over for the Castle projections? I would imagine there could be quite a crowd of people moving from one to the other at the same time.

Goofy's Incredible Christmas lasts about 15 minutes and DLP usually closes at least an hour after WDS so it's definitely possible. People were doing this when the Season of the Force show was on. Of course you might not get the best standing spot for Illuminations when arriving closer to show time.

I absolutely love the song! It's catchy and along the lines of Sunny Bunnyland and Vive la Vie.
I just don't like it in combination with this specific parade, which is a lot more traditional Christmas.
