Title: Fast Food Job, how good does your french have to be?
Post by: RobinV1987 on August 10, 2017, 09:06:50 PM
Hi there!

I've been searching a lot and I haven't been able to find any specific answer.
At the Disneyland Paris website it says you need some French to work in the fastfood restaurants, but can anybody explain how much you really need to know?

I work at Mcdonalds at Schiphol Airport (one of the largest airports in Europe) and I'm a Production Expert, Service Expert and Allround Expert and I'd love to trade Mcdonalds for Disneyland Paris.

If anyone can help me I'll be very happy!

Robin

if you currently work at McDonalds you should ask your manager about transfer options. McDonalds in Disney village is not operated by Disney, its a regular McDonalds. Therefore its Mcdonalds transfer conditions you need to meet. Your shop manager or area manager would be the best person to talk to

Hi Bad-Pink-Tink,

I wasn't really suggesting that I wanted to work at Mcdonalds again, and that's not how it works with transfers.
Every country has their own headquarters called like Mcdonalds France, Mcdonalds Nederland, Mcdonalds Beglium and so on and they all lease the licence from the US, so they are not just one big happy cooperation. That's why you have so many differences in the menus.
And next to the HQ restaurants you have the Franchises, and I'm in one of those franchises that leases the licence from Mcdonalds Nederland. So it's a bit more complicated than that.

But what I was talking about is the counter service restaurants in Disneyland Paris, they are the same setup as Mcdonalds restaurants, just different food and different theming.
If anyone knows how proficient you have to be in French, please let me know :)

I suspect it's not an exact science. You won't need to be as fluent as cast members working all over the park as you won't be asked such a variety of questions, but good enough to understand people's orders and any questions about the menu so you can answer them clearly.

I'd consider it a practical, working knowledge of specific areas and from what I've heard before they test your level of French and English during the hiring process.
