The whole park will become Star Wars Land? Just kidding! I wonder what the big announcement is, a third gate perhaps? Or it could be something totally irrelevant and we will all be so bummed!

Yeah I'm thinking its not going to be something that we really want. Probably something as daft as "we're celebrating the 25th with a limted edition cupcake".

I'm going with "We're closing the park for 3 years to re-model it as Euro Star Wars park" that way I can't be disappointed by the announcement.

ps secretly I think it will be all about the programme for the 25th, maybe a glimpse of the new parade

Wouldn't it be great if there was an acutal surprise in the annocunment? Once they've done all the 25th hoopla we're expecting, just leave it to the last minute to say "...op and WDS will have work start on Marvel Land for its 15th".

Well they kept the Sally AA quiet for Haunted Mansion Holiday (DL) so maybe there is still something secret for DLP.

..

I'm trying hard not to be cynical though...we've been down this path withthe resort many a time and it usually leads to disappointment.

The Disneyland Park sign is missing today, some people speculating a name change for the park to the Magic Kingdom or the resort's name being changed, which I guess is possible, I imagine the name Disneyland Paris has gained somewhat of a bad name attached to it, before the 25th rehab plans were announced I remember a lot of petitions and some mainstream media articles, perhaps they want to rebrand to represent a new dawn for the resort now that the Walt Disney Company owns the vast majortity and has more or less taken over at this point.

Interesting idea. Maybe Royaume Magique? Hmmm.. and if they do change it to «Le Magic Kingdom», what will the resort be called? Surely that'd remain as Disneyland (Resort) Paris?

And...(cynisicim ahoy!) even if they do change it, people will still call it 'EuroDisney' !  >:(

I feel like it'd be Magic Kingdom in English or something like that, I feel like that is more marketable, maybe it'd be Walt Disney World Paris? Walt Disney resort Paris? Disneyland Europe? No idea lol.

I think I've got it. The introduction of Star Wars characters around the park. The suit of armour in PM will become a Storm Trooper, The barrel where they are suggesting Jack Sparrow will pop up will really be R2D2, Dumbo will be replaced with X-wing fighters and the scene where Pan and Hook are fighting (Peter Pans Flight) will become Obiwan and Vader.

I'm wondering if it's an expansion of Studios? Could be why they haven't really touched it for the 25th as they know it'll be their next big project? No idea if it's possible with funds but now its under the Walt Disney Company maybe they could make it happen. Could also explain hotel price hikes and charging for breakfast to make more money for it all.

Either that or maybe the announcement of a new park in the resort? Sure I read somewhere ages ago that Epcot has always been planned for DLP. The resort has guest capacity for it I suppose with the 7 on site hotels and the off site hotels in the area.

Or perhaps I'm just being too optimistic  ;D

Does the announcement say anything about how long the 25th Anniversary celebrations will go on for? We really really want to go but know that September is the earliest we could get there next year. Will this go on until the end of 2017 at least?

Does anyone also know if they scrap all the seasons once this starts or do they run the seasonal stuff alongside the 25th Anniversary?

Why not include Star Tours and Hyperspace Mountain? To me they're more than just a new lick of paint. And in the end all the refurbishments that are in progress are part of making the park shine for the celebration.

They usually run the celebration for a full year so theoretically March 2018. However for the 20ththey extended it even further so it lasted 2 years.
I am almost certain the seasons will continue through the 25th. Especially Halloween and Christmas.

I am, big time. But this is not exclusive to DLP, it seems to be the way to go with Disney Parks lately.

I rode Star Tours 2 in California and I hated it. I don't normally suffer from motion sickness but this ride made me feel weak and ill for hours after riding it.

HyperSpace Mountain.... it'll just use the same projections and sound than the one in California. I reckon it will be more impressive given that DLP's Mountain has larger projection screens- but a let down nonetheless.

I was really hoping for Soarin' over the Horizon to be added to Adventureland (my first wish has always been Indiana Jones Adventure, but that's way over budget). I was hoping for Paint The Night as well (it was a matter of just cloning the existing HK and California parades).

Sadly DLP will go on a rough patch for years to come- the terrorism threat has REALLY taken a toll on tourism to France, and its not going away anytime soon :(.

Nothing "new" then, just current things changed / rethemed.

I guess the hype of calling it a surprise announcement was for people that don't follow the rumours of DLP.

Quite a few good points made in this thread. I wonder how many Disney people cringe at what they get told to implement. "We've got to have something from this film", "OK, lets nail it to that ride". "We've got to feature these characters", "Ok, we can put them there, next to the existing ones". I'm surprised this is happening, I thought that now TWDC have effectively taken control of the park, they would have been a bit more "Disney" about refurbing / developing the parks.

I remember being told on a tour of the park that an amusement park is a load of attractions, whilst a theme park uses the attractions to tell a story. DLP is changing from a theme park into an amusement park.

I'm pleased overall with the announcement details, as it confirmes that out trips in Feb, Aug & Nov will have different elements to enjoy, which isn't a bad thing.

The only element I don't think will work is having live action as part of the Dreams / Illuminations show.  The animation elements are made to suit the castle 'screen', whereas excerpts from movies are likely to be panned & scanned, with a lot of scrolling / blurred images (like the Toy Story segment of Christmas Dreams, that was made for the more panoramic 'screen' at Paradise Pier in California, not a relatively tall & narrow castle).

True.

Then again, at least they are doing something. MK turned 45 and got naff all. At least they didn't try to ignore it, like EPCOT 30 or DHS 30.

Oh wait... WDS turns 15 and its not even been mentioned.

I like your optimisim.  :) We have to look on the bright side.

Sure the 25th is light on big ticket items, but at least they are doing something. I guess TWDC took control to really have an effect on the Silver Anniversary (in terms of new attractions), but perhaps once this celebration cycle is underway they can focus on pushing the resort further forward.

The campaign to make DLPs 30th amazing starts here!  ;D

Considering how shockingly quiet the parks have been on each of my visits this year (and xmas last year) I think what we are getting is probably more then I was expecting. Lets just hope it brings more visitors. As much as I love a park with no queues, it was actually pretty sad to see it relatively empty during peak seasons this year

Part of the celebrations, although nothing they can announce, is the massive refurbishment and repainting that has been going on around. IASW, Big Thunder, Adventure Isle, Alice's Labyrinth, the Geysers, Pirates of the Caribbean, and the rumoured Phantom Manor - hopefully these will be regularly unkept.

Other suggestions that would be price effective both in increasing the capacity and bringing new rides (albeit clones): Mickey's Phillharmagic, Pooh, and Little Mermaid in Fantasyland, the Shanghai Pirates Stunt Show in Adventureland, Midway Mania in the Studios. Instead of Indiana Jones Adventure, the Indiana Jones coaster could be covered in a building, and having its track expanded into a dark-ride segment, similar to Crush's Coaster, with the coaster section filled with lasers, fire, and projection mapping effects. New ride with a smaller budget! Also, lose the Indiana Jones theme to justify this as a new ride... Mystic Manor elements?

AT LEAST we are not getting Phantom Manor: The Phantom Menace. Totally possible nowadays  :-X.

Also, let us not feel bad, a quick recap what Disneyland and the Magic Kingdom (both HIGHLY profitable parks, unlike our dear DLP) have gotten for their big anniversaries:

Disneyland 50th (2005): New fireworks, new daytime parade. No rides.
Disneyland 60th (2015): New fireworks, new nighttime parade. No rides.(SWL only announced later)
Magic Kingdom 25th (1997): Tacky birthday castle. Re-branding of Mickey's Toontown fair (just plastic tents).
Magic Kingdom 45th (2016): No new fireworks, loss of night-time parade. No new rides.

I love your ideas!

I hope Disney Illuminations is a night-time parade and not just fireworks.
It is the new castle show.
That doesn't mean it couldn't begin with nighttime parade. 'Illuminations' isn't very specific.

WDW was the real winner for Disneyland's 50th. Wasn't it..

MK: Cinderellbration
EPCOT: Soarin'
Studios: Moteurs Action
DAK: Everest

Let's just hope the Magic Kingdom repays the favour in '21. Paris needs some gifts please!

Well,
Cinderellabration = clone show from Japan
Soarin' = Clone from California, with incoherent team of California in Epcot
Moteurs Action = Clone show from Paris
DAK = Everest: only winner, even with Disco Yeti

Disney has just gone cheap :(

^Funny isn't it, the more revenue they've got, the cheaper they seem to become where it counts.

Sure SDL is a huge investment, (amongst other progammes of investment in the US) and aquiring the majority holding in EuroDisney SCA certinaly wasn't pocket change, but they need to put some real investment into 'The Happiest Place in Europe'.

They surely do. If you check the low ratings for DLP on TripAdvisor, many people mention "nothing new" and "aging rides". A lick of paint on old attractions is not perceived as a reason to re-visit as new attractions. I honestly believe DLP is pristine compared to the upkeep level of other European theme parks (heck, even several important cultural structures are graffitied and crumbling!). Americans see DLP as a failure because of fading paint and litter, while Europeans due to lack of attractions. Moreover, for the average guest, the only attractions with a repeat value in Parc Disneyland are Space Mountain, Buzz, and BTMRR. Once more, the park needs new attractions with large capacity - New experiences = satisfaction. Guests to DLP have pretty much been treated to the SAME experience since 1995.

I'm an 'average guest' and the only one of those three I like is Big Thunder Mountain.  I like loads of others which I happily do time and time again.

Not sure why everyone is so annoyed really...yes Hyperspace Mountain is a bit...well cheaply done shall we say, but I guess that they needed to be able to list a Star Wars attraction to help draw people in.

Other than that I'm pleasantly surprised, sure I would have loved a nighttime parade but the reality is that was unrealistic too since Paint the Night seems to cost a TON to do. I'm impressed and to be honest I imagine TWDC just wants to get this celebration over with so they can focus on really trying to move the resort forwards post anniversary. What that exactly entails remains to be seen, I imagine redoing WDSP will be highest on that list, but hopefully DLP gets something new as well.

Maybe some people don't believe that they will move things forwards, but the last few months have seen more smoking areas, nicer CMs ( Or so I've been told, never had an issue with them so far), more characters, photopass photographers actually out, extensive refurbishments of all the parks, finally starting to get some of the modern overlays IE Hyperspace and updating attractions that desperately need it like Pirates or BTM or Star Tours. Not to mention all the stuff from the anniversary. I am optimistic for the future of the resort, hopefully it doesn't include a GOTG tower but if that is the price we have to pay to get this resort up to the Disney standard then so be it.

I'm really excited for this upcoming anniversary celebration. Considering this last year due to events outside of Disney's control the attendance has been extremely low compared to usual I was expecting a massive reduction on their anniversary plans due to costs. To have 4 new shows, illuminations, Daytime Parade, Birthday Cavcalade and Princess Castle Stage Show is really impressive. Plus a lot of money has been spent on refurbishing the big main rides of DLP like BTM, Pirates, Alice's maze.

Also I do feel the resort is improving on all it's other issues like Smoking, maintenance etc it will all make a better quality experience for guests which means the resort will get better reviews.

It's an exciting time for DLP and hopefully this will be the year the resort turns itself around.

Darth Vader Meet & Greet Confirmed:

New: Star Tours: The Adventures Continue

Launched at the opening of Disneyland Park in 1992, Star Tours soon established itself as a cult ride. 25 years later, it's back with a new experience, new destinations, a new pilot, new characters and new 3D technology. Introducing Star Tours: The Adventures Continue! Prepare for lift-off on an all-new, action-packed, 3D intergalactic voyage... it's sure to be epic.

Thanks to a multitude of new scenes and more than 70 possible mission combinations, guests will never know where the Force might take them. Every ride will offer unique surprises with journeys through the planet Jakku, Naboo, Hoth, Tatooine and more, perhaps even via the Death Star. Guests will travel through the galaxy with a new pilot, C-3PO, meeting heroes they have never encountered until now. Watch out for Darth Vader... Each scenario, journey and unexpected development is random to ensure that guests enjoy an original experience every time and fully immerse themselves in the universe of the Star WarsTM films. Episodes I to VII inclusive.

New: Meet the Dark Side of the Force

Good news! Disneyland Paris guests will finally get the chance to meet the formidable Darth Vader every day. Head to the new dedicated area near the Star Tours: The Adventures Continue ride for a private meet and greet. A tip for those who dare to make an appearance? Don't let your guard down when taking photos.

New: Star Wars Hyperspace Mountain: Rebel Mission

In spring 2017, Star WarsTM will take over a legendary space-themed ride. Space Mountain will become Star Wars Hyperspace Mountain for a totally unique experience. In a brand new environment inspired by the Star WarsTM universe, guests can join the famous Rebel Alliance and become pilots on a sensational mission. They will travel through the Star WarsTM galaxy at intense speed, to the epic soundtrack of the saga.

The experience will also have amazing visuals with breath-taking special effects. Experience a unique and exciting voyage through the Star WarsTM universe and enjoy the thrill of evading TIE fighters and an intimidating Star Destroyer.

New: Disney Stars on Parade

Another exciting journey awaits guests in the brand new Disney Parade. With dizzying new floats, new music, a plethora of Disney Stars and new costumes, Disney Stars on Parade will dazzle guests of all ages.

In Disney Stars on Parade, we follow Mickey and Friends on a real journey of discovery to the land of imagination, divided into eight chapters. Mickey, Minnie, Donald Duck, Goofy and Chip and Dale are explorers of the future... with a steampunk-inspired futuristic look. The heroes of Toy Story are close behind, ready to take guests "to infinity and beyond!"! Roar along with Simba to the problem-free philosophy, "Hakuna Matata"! Similarly, Baloo and Mowgli remind us that all it takes to be happy are "the bare necessities", to the sound of percussion that conjures up a sense of adventure and a jungle atmosphere. Head for Neverland with Peter Pan and the Lost Boys! The underwater world is also celebrated with Nemo, Marlin and Dory. Listen out for the roar of Maleficient's majestic dragon form, which challenges Prince Phillip and actually breathes fire. Fortunately, the romance of the Disney Princesses always triumphs over evil. The final chapter of this world of wonder ends as the book closes with an icy blast, thanks to the much-loved heroines of Frozen.

New: Mickey presents "Happy Anniversary Disneyland Paris"

The Disney Stars invite guests to gather in front of the stage at Sleeping Beauty Castle for a huge anniversary celebration, every day of the year. From all over the park, they join together in step until the arrival of everyone's favourite mouse. To mark this exceptional anniversary, Mickey makes a grand entrance dressed in his smartest outfit: a blue and silver dinner jacket in the celebratory colours. 1, 2, 3, 4, it's time to sing together: "Happy Anniversary Disneyland Paris"!

New: The Starlit Princess Waltz

With a sprinkle of fairy dust, Tinker Bell opens the festivities. Aurora wants to invite the other Disney Princesses to the ball: Ariel, Belle, Snow White, Cinderella, Jasmine, Rapunzel and Tiana. Each princess makes her entrance in a magnificent ball gown, specially created for the 25th Anniversary, to the sound of a romantic fanfare. Their message: to remind the audience that every little girl, regardless of her age or background, is a Princess. This show is enhanced by the spectacular fountains in front of Sleeping Beauty Castle.

New: Disney Illuminations

As night falls, it is time for the final spectacular new experience: Disney Illuminations. This all-new show, featuring state-of-the-art technology, incorporates sound, lights, projections, fountains and breathtaking pyrotechnic effects.

Every night, against the backdrop of the Castle, Mickey takes us on a captivating journey, following in the footsteps of the heroes of animated masterpieces. He transports the audience to a dimension where the stories of The Little Mermaid, Finding Nemo and Frozen come to life, with the projection of "live action" film images for the very first time. Guests will witness an incredible naval battle featuring the Black Pearl, the legendary ship of Jack Sparrow. Finally, stars are on the agenda, with a sequence of "live action images" which will delight all Star Wars fans. Featuring the Millennium Falcon, TIE Fighters and Stormtroopers... The Force is strong with Disney Illuminations.

From 26 March 2017, come and enjoy the dazzling new experiences to mark the 25th Anniversary of Disneyland Paris.
