News broke out today of a rumoured Phantom Manor refurbishment. According to DisneyKindOfDay, Phantom Manor will be refurbished completely, inside and out, after the 25th anniversary.
Needless to say, I'm both excited and somewhat anxious of the fate of my beloved attraction. The ride deserves a long overdue update, but I hope they don't mess with the current storyline.
What are your thoughts, would you like a storyline similar to the Haunted Mansions to replace the tragic Ravenswood legend?
Noooo! Leave the story as it is, yes it would be nice to see some more obvious links to Thunder Mountain for younger guests but the story itself is great...why change it.
I think they should put Darth Vader and Spiderman in there. And Mickey Mouse.
I really hope they keep the story. I love that frontierland is all so linked.
Ooh I love this ride. I'm excited to see it get some love and attention that it deserves however, I love how it is at the moment so I hope they don't mess with it too much. A little TLC is definitely welcomed though.
Spruce it up where needed, add the Hatbox Ghost and leave it as it is. No need for silly additions *cough* like Pirates *cough*
Well, the Hatbox Ghost is not related to the current storyline, what they could do though is use the same technology on a Phantom animatronic.
Phantom Manor is in my opinion, the best attraction at DLP.
They need to put more of the ghosts (like the dancing ghosts) in and take out all that rubbish at the end like the skeleton dog. I really enjoy the front bit of the ride but then it gets silly.
I don't know, the sillyness sort of counterbalances the macabre-ness of the rest of the attraction.
The story line needs to stay as it it is. It just needs a spruce up and for the lights to be turned up a bit in places where it's too dark to see details.
They need to keep the story line intact, the link with the rest of Thunder Messa is a real plus. I'd just like to see some of the tired old effects updated, like the new projection of Peter Pan at the start of Peter Pan's Flight. That would really add to some of the ghosts we see flying around. I'd also like to see the moment where we pick up a hitch hiking ghost turned into a photo spot.
Yes a photo op here would be a great addition. Maybe something a bit more exciting as a backdrop than a grey wall tho!
I don't know if I'm remembering this from years ago or from the US disney parks but I'm sure the 'hitchhiking ghosts' used to be different from Doonbuggy to doonbuggy alrh7ght I noticed they were the same all along the buggys
They have different ghosts at WDW - Phineas, Ezra and another one!
They also swap people's heads around in the reflecting glass.
Heard they are thinking about a permanent Nightmare before Christmas overlay...

Where did you hear that?
Owner of a DLP fansite with good connection/infos
I'm a huge fan of TNBC, but it would seem out of place if they did a permanent overlay at PM. The whole Frontierland is so well connected and something like this will ruin the current immersion. A holiday overlay would make more sense.
I've always hoped for Phantom Manor Holiday, it'd be a great and affordable addition- not to mention that Nightmare is a huge merchandise seller ;). The ride would be perfect for it- Phantom Canyon would make a fantastic Halloweentown!
Does anyone know roughly when this will start? i know it's 2018 but i'm going to DRP from the 5th of Jan till the 8th of Jan and would really love to ride PM as it's my all time favourite ride and would love to ride it for the first time!

I highly doubt that
Phantom Manor is closed just now for maintenance but reopens on the 7th.

I've only just become acquainted with the Hatbox Ghost - maybe if (according to the Haunted Mansion story) he is supposed to be the groom, maybe there is scope for him to move into the Manor after all. Looking at some footage of him, he is certainly an interesting looking fellow!
As the refurb is well under way maybe it's a bit late to consider him now but it could be nice to see him in the future.

Well whatever they're doing inside seems a lot more complex/time consuming than they first imagined because it's not due to open until early 2019 as announced today!
That's rather naughty to announce after Halloween tickets went on sale. I have booked for Nov for the sole reason of seeing the new overlay.

Same here, I just booked a trip for november 14th and I'm so sad about this!
We've booked for Halloween, bought the tickets and then this was announced this afternoon. Not happy at all!
The timing of this does seem quite naughty. I feel sympathy for those wanting to visit at Halloween. Hopefully it'll be worth it.
I saw the post that the manor is now not opening until next year :'(, has a reason been given as to why there is going to be such a lengthy delay?

Just that the refurb is taking longer than they initially thought. They are doing a LOT of work inside (all but rebuilding parts of it seemingly) so not entirely surprising.
They have said early Jan '19. Am there for New Year, hoping early Jan means very early Jan :'(
I am there late January so am hopeful, Seems very mean to announce that it will be closed for Halloween though!
