Title: Horrible green fences
Post by: Slimy yet satisfying on October 11, 2015, 09:38:21 AM
Before I start my moan I know refurbs are needed but the extent should be honestly shared with those considering booking.
The green fences are about 8 foot high and have no decoration, so no disneyfication like when they repainted the castle or IASW.
IASW has grey tarpaulin and scaffolding over the entire frontage plus a 100 foot fence around the base from the pavillion to the float gate.
Each station is also closed off with fencing and main st station has scaffolding and grey tarps with workers in high vis being very noisy all day.
There is scaffolding everywhere. Jackhammers and sawing is going on throughout the day with men in high vis andhardhats everywhere. You cannot even hear the music.
Railings have red and white tape on cones marking wet paint all over central plaza and the smell of paint is overwhelming.
Outside Plaza gardens (which is also still closed) the flower beds have fencing around them and the noise and dust from a circular saw cutting up concrete is deafening
Across from skull rock jacks wheel is closed off again with green fence from alladins bazaar all the way to the entrance to pirates
The walkway between adventure and fantasyland is also boarded off
The list of ride and restaurant closures does not give an accurate idea of areas where the green fence is in place.
There are green fences everywhere. Around the fountain at the entrance to studios and around where the sleigh/
christmas trees are at Christmas.
There is no possibility of a photo without these fences in the background pretty much in both parks.
This is a total muck up Disney, you should be ashamed.

Are you kidding? So it's gonna look a total mess when I go next month? It's my first ever visit I don't want it to be tarnished with a load of scaffolding ruining the magic. Ride closures I can deal with, this I don't think I can :(

Sorry but it is the worst i have ever seen it. Even when they were building the studios the noise was kept low with most work done overnight with floodlights. I have never seen workmen in overalls having their lunch on park benches before. The green fences are everywhere there is no attempt to disguise the sight sound or smell of this building site.Uzually whene a restaurant is closed they just lock up and do work inside or at least have a themed tarp overlay like Silver spur did. This timd they havd just green fenced the entire area e.g Fuento del oro and Molly Brown. It is awful.

Hopefully they'll get rid of it by next month I'm hoping!

I went in September, and I won,t be going back again.
We have been going since 1994,often 2-3 times a year, and now is the worst I have known it.
Three stages not being used, only 2 counter service restaurants open, only the silver spur steakhouse table service open,in Disney village only Annette's diner and cafe Mickey table service open,I had meal vouchers so had to use Disney restaurants.the steak house in Disney village was closed to hotel guests for corporate do.
I have sent Disney 2 emails and had no reply. As I said earlier I won,t be going back,as it seems once Disney have your money they don,t really care about their guests.
Rant over.

Slimy yet satisfying,

when was your stay? I just today read on another DLP-site that Fuente del Oro en Plaza Gardens have just reopened.

We arrived on Saturday 3rd October and left yesterday Saturday the 10th October. Plaza gardens was not open on sat 10th am and the work on the outside eating areas and flower beds was still in full flow with no concrete left on the walkway (I peeked through an open doorway!)
Fuento del oro was the same on sat at 6pm so unless they sprinkled a shed load of pixie dust overnight I would doubt that it was without the green fencing.

Arriving tomorrow - I'll let y'all know how I find it. Tbh I'm not that fussy about the green boarding but having a family in decorating and construction means I'm pretty accustomed to the smell of paint and sound of drilling.

Oh dear... We go in 12 sleeps and have paid a premium for this trip (compared to some of the bargain prices I was looking at for Easter 16). This is our last trip for a while before all of the big ride closures. I'd not prepared myself for area closures, builders and noise... Will have to get my disappointment armour on ready... 😔

Gosh I hope its not this bad when we go the end of January, already there is an added closure of the studio tram tour so far I hope they don't add too many more as already missing big thunder mountain, the railroad, robinson tree house and also peter pan if it stays at same date. Have looked at restaurant closures that was posted on here and doesn't look too bad. I really hope there isn't gonna be too many green fences up and noise it will defo put me off 😞

In my honest opinion (I arrived back early hours of this morning) I don't think the green boards are too horrific! Theres only 3 that I thought were ugly - studios stars in cars area, small world and railway station on main street. The others were visible but didn't obscure photos in anyway.

The main street one was particularly bad as it was central and there was scaffolding all over but it wasn't trip ruining by any means.

All in all I would say don't worry about this in the slightest, if your that offended by a bit of green fencing I think you need to avoid visiting full stop because its by far not the most pressing issue DLP has.

Rebecca20 I've been lurking, praying & waiting for you to post on your return from your holiday. I know DLP it's not going to be perfect when we travel in November, but in all honesty what's perfect or one will not be for another. I can cope with a bit of green fencing, a few Rides being refurbished & restaurants closed, but we will be away on holiday making memories with our children, and or partners / family. I for one cannot wait x

It's not like it will stop you enjoying your holiday, it isn't pretty but other than that it's still Disneyland!

The only thing that's an issue is when other attractions break down (at the same time) because there's a lot of other rides already have refurb but we still had a magical trip and still count ourselves lucky to be able to visit DLP enjoy your trip!  :D

Re rides breaking down - there was not one ride that broke down during our stay that affected us for more than 5 minutes! We managed to do ALL the rides that were open over 2 days and do some meet and greets too. It was super quiet so unless theres a huge mechanical failure I wouldn't worry as the parks were so quiet you could literally just walk onto a different ride. The longest we waited was 10 minutes for Dumbo and 45 for Stitch meet. If you use fastpass wisely you should have an enjoyable and queue free trip.

N.B. obviously we went during school term time so it was quieter than holidays.

The breakdowns we encounterd were I assume major ones on the Saturday pirates was down all but 2 hours of the entire day BTM was down for a good few hours too however we have been around 30 times and this is uncommon to happen and DLP had maintance workers on the case the entire time from what I could see. They really do try their best to get things up again ASAP

That sucks - we got 'stuck' at the top of the pirates drop but only for a few minutes. Nothing else went wrong thankfully.

Jeez! Worst breakdown for me was rock n roller coaster 😂 long ago I thought we were goners the train behind us we could hear! Tot broke Down once pitch black but thankfully on the ground level!
The cast member of pirates said a child jumped out of the boat that day then later whilst waiting to ride (45 min) we was waiting at exit mind u my son had a reservation time for the second time as missed first one as closed alarm went and broke down until the next day lunchtime it was up!

Do you know why u stopped there? Wondering if pirates are having continuing issues over the years I've never seen that many breakdowns and never pirates hence the huge que! Buzz had a breakdown to then when open 70min que! I think it mounts the wait time up but credit to Disney they deal with it best they can. Was a bad day for them I think ppl were queing for city ball all shouting and everything it was awful but what do people expect rides do break down! There's lots more to see and do  :D

I know!!
It got to the point that i could recite the "playful spooks" blah in french too by the end of our trip...also climbing down a ladder on peter pan then getting stuck for another 30 mins when we returned for our fastpass apology. Slight bonus...the extended fault on buzz meant as a family we all maxed out the score display 999999!

Sounds like you took the positives from the breakdowns  ;D

Gotta love phantom manor, it's in my little lads top 3. (pirates, star tours, Phantom manor) and I've never got a score of that! How long was you stuck then was you there same time as us I wonder?

Never got stuck onride so far, though I had trouble with the Rock n roller coaster security bar 2 times now, it just wouldn't open after stopping at the exit, the first time, the cm had to activate some lever at the back of the train to make the bar go up

At least it wasn't stuck open!!!! Once on Air at Alton Towers mine wouldn't close and they did that manually, needless to say I was terrified.

Rebecca - I had a similar issue at Alton Towers, the first time I'd ever got on a ride there, Rita. Everyone was sat down and buckled in but some total numpty decided they wanted to change seats, and as a result, for some reason, only my bars raised up. I was terrified and shouting at the staff who just kept ignoring me, I had a nod of acknowledgement from one woman but no one explained anything to me, I was convinced the ride was going to start and I'd be thrown out of my seat. I really really don't trust ride operators.

I must admit I was slightly more nervous going on the big rides in DLP on this trip considering the awful event at Alton Towers earlier this year luckily nothing happened but it does make you think.

Also as an FYI to people Space Mountain bloody kills your head there's no padding on the ride at all which I guess explains the 0 minute wait line.

Rebecca20 I would have been scared to! I havnt been Alton towers for years it's quite far for us, we've been chessington and Thorpe park but tbh I think none compare to Disney so we now sidestep them save all bit more and look for a deal for DLP afterall it's so close really (to us anyways)

Paramount park is meant tone opening very close to where I am so I look forward to a brand new park but I still think I'll be doing my reguar DLP trips  :D

It was a shock the Alton towers incident but then again these things happen, some years ago there was an accident on small world (worker not guest) didn't end well Unfortunatly and an accident in BTM some years back? We were there soon after these incidents and both rides were shut still these werent the same time but just two things I remember theme parks are generally quite safe. Well I hope!  ;)
