Title: Experience with a doctor in DLP
Post by: vuk on October 02, 2015, 05:51:03 PM
Hello. It is possible to visit a doctor in DLP? Where to find him, and what diseases I can go, please?

They have like, a little hospital there.
It's situated next to Plaza Inn.

I've heard sometimes they are very strict, so I'm not really sure.

But I've visited twice last year in a period of 2 weeks (during Halloween trip, and 2 weeks later duing Xmas trip).
I ended up there with panic attacks, and everyone there was extremely sweet, trying to calm me down to make me feel better again.
First time I was in there for about 2-2,5 hours, and they didn't try to get rid of me either, they just let me recover on my own pase.

I thought it was really great.

This is good to know. When I went in 2013 I was really ill, just wanted to fly home to be honest but I stuck it out because I didn't want to leave DLP to find a doctor- it turned out to be glandular fever & infection in my sinuses when I returned home, then I fell at New Year on the ice on one of the rides & I so could have done to see a doctor.

Plazza Gardens is in Disneyland Paris so doctors is next to that.

Plazza Inn is in another Disney resort.

Hope this helps.

This is so good to know! I never even thought Disney would have a Doctor in the park.

If you get ill during park opening hours, you can simply go to first aid.
The nurses there are trauma nurses, so they'll be able to patch up a LOT.
If its something they can't deal with, they'll get a doctor in.
I'm not sure whether they have a doctor there on permanence, but I once went in with a bad asthma attack, and due to my heart problems, they called in a specialist from the nearby hospital.

I've ended up there with asthma attacks twice, a busted knee (from a fall), food poisoning and a cut on a finger, and every time I received A+ care, they never tried to fob me off or rush me out and they were friendly and competent.
Oh and as a bonus: care is free. In my case they even sent a little report to my GP, who was shocked, because apparently it's hell to get a report off a specialist, but Disney does it promptly if you can provide them GP information.
And if you don't speak French, they'll get someone in that does (or so I hear, because I do speak enough French to explain my medical issues).

From what I gather, if you stay on site, and get ill outside park hours, when obviously first aid is closed, you need to contact reception, and they'll make sure you can see a doctor.
Mind you, that care probably is NOT free, so make sure to sort out European health insurance or a travel insurance that covers possible health issues.

Just as a quick random question... anyone know if those little EU medical cards are still in use? I have insurance anyway but I found it my box of travel things and wondered what on earth it's for and whether I need to bother keeping it?!

Is this the EHIC card? Then yes, still in use & need it with you. My niece took ill in Spain in August & they took that number down & we didn't have to pay for her treatment. It will have an expiry date on so will need renewing if expired.

Yes its the EHIC card. I rarely holiday in Europe apart from Disneyland so I hadn't even thought about it until yesterday! Better pack it then just as a precaution. Thanks Zee79!!

There is a medical post next to the Plaza Restaurant, and if needed they'll take you to a nearby hospital outside the park. I got to experience this first hand last year as I managed to rip my head open on a sign in the park and needed stitches. :)
The doctor was friendly, and professional as you'd expect. Disney staff was also very helpful. :)

Hospital Staff was also quick and courteous, they even have English speaking doctors on staff. The downside, waiting times can be atrocious depending on how busy it is. I lost about 5 hours or so to my little medical incident, most of which was waiting at the hospital.

Also, if you have a medical emergency, hotel staff will do a conference call with you and emergency services and get the emergency doctor in if needed. Also something I made use of last year. ;)
The doctor was a nice man, and spoke surprisingly good English for a Frenchman. ;D
There's a €90 call-out fee, but your insurance should refund that afterwards.
You do need to pay the doctor on the spot, I did it through the hotel reception at 6 in the morning. :)

My father in law collapsed this year whilst staying at Sequoia Lodge (It was during the heat wave in July) HE was taken to the local hospital where he stayed for 4 days. The staff at the hotel could not be faulted. We came home leaving my mother in law there. She was given a Golden Forest Room for her extended stay and shuttled to and from the hotel  and hospital by the duty manager. The hospital and its staff were also superb.

MY wife had to call out the doctor whilst at the DLH due to an ear infection. A fire and rescue member came first to assess the condition and called for a local doctor. After about an hour the doc came and everything was sorted.

Both experiences were handled swiftly and with professionalism

I'm amazed by reading how fast they respond!

Also in my own case, the respons was incredibly fast!
I just grabbed a person of Guest Flow, told him what was happening, and before I even finished saying what was wrong there was a medic, a translator with me and a wheelchair on the way to take me to the first aid.

Yeah I always say that if I need to have some kind of accident/incident (and of course I hope that never happens but you know how it is) I prefer it to be in DLP because I'll at least get competent healthcare.
Point in case, I had an accident last April in a Belgian train station (one of the heavy sliding doors closed just in front of me, causing me to walk straight into it), i spent nearly 5 hours waiting to see a doctor in the ER, received completely incompetent care which has left me with damage to my left eye from the impact.
If they had properly done their job they could have treated it, but no.

So yes, you're safe in DLP in case something does happen. Hopefully it won't, but at least you can rest assured that when it does, you'll get proper healthcare.

The wait might still be long though. ;) But yes, the diagnosis and subsequent treatment will be done properly. I had the misfortune of having an accident on a day that it was rather busy at the hospital, so I spent about 6 hours there in all, most of it waiting.

Can't fault the actual treatment and response though. :D

I've never actually had to wait longer than 5 minutes to be seen to, and that was with a cut in my finger (which did NOT require any kind of urgent attention, just some cleaning, disinfectant and a plaster ^^). Every other time I was seen to straight away (possibly because it was serious stuff like asthma attacks and such mind).

I think I got unlucky that day, there were a lot of people waiting, and while I had a sizeable gash in my head it wasn't too deep or bleeding much at that point. :) A little desinfecting and stitching was all that was needed.

Yeah a lot of head wounds look a lot worse than they really are (thankfully). I once cut an eyebrow, it bled all over the place and in reality it was a stupid fleshwound that just needed some disinfecting and a plaster (this didn't happen at DLP mind).

If any of you follow the DLP ambassadors in Facebook, they've just posted some photos about the medical center in Main Street

Also just to add... if you have something minor they will also help. I got a bad headache in DLP once and asked a CM if there was anywhere to buy paracetemol. She directed me to the medical centre where they gave me water and paracetemol.
Also my niece suffered with a strained ankle there one year and again they have her pain medication, every 4 hours as required, she just had to keep going back and they'd give her the next dose.

Oh yes absolutely, I've gone in one trip with a cut on a finger and they didn't think it was any trouble at all and cleaned it, disinfected it and put a plaster on it.
When I fell a hole in my knee on another trip, they also patched me up without any complaint also :)
I kept on apologising over bothering them with something silly like that, and they kept on saying that first aid was for any kind of ailment and injury, regardless of it being tiny or life threatening and everything in between.
So seriously, regardless of whether you have a scrape that needs some disinfecting or whatever else: don't hesitate to go to first aid!
