Sooo, just seen all over twitter that at the stars n cars meet today was Belle, Gaston and... Beast!!

Absolutely zero.
It has already been confirmed that he was only out this weekend.
There was a certain Saudi Arabian prince in town to celebrate his birthday.
Hence the special appareance of Beast.
Would have loved to have seen this! :'(

Seems a bit useless though, he's not celebrating his birthday there every year.
And besides, this is the first time in many years that beast made an appearance.
Maybe so, although I've often read that they bring out special or rare characters for when he's visting, there's always a chance....

That's correct, but most of those characters come out just for him and don't do public meets.
And like I said, he's not visiting every year during the same time.
Example:
Last year's Valentine's Day was fantastic. Because he was visiting.
This year there was literally nothing. He wasn't there.
I can see why they do it, but it is not fair on the paying guests. If only DLP didn't need to pay for each character they used in the park. Maybe we would see more regularly.

That is true. It's also due to licence issues etc.
Thanks peeps. Never knew all of this backstage politics and business existed... Interesting though.
I just hope that when / if Walt Disney Co actually come to own DLP that the variety of characters is as broad as all other parks. There's a lot of talk here about special characters, but the reality is they're all as special as each other, and as paying guests we should all have the ability to see new characters every time we visit - you can everywhere else.
The appearance of different characters absolutely should not be linked to the visit of a particular individual (cue lots of replies saying 'yes, but he pays for them himself'). We all pay a lot of money to visit DLP, often a number of times per year. Some of us are also shareholders Just saying :) !
