Title: Trip report 4.8. - 7.8. (completed)
Post by: BlackPearl on August 30, 2014, 09:30:05 PM
4.8.
Yeah! Here we gooo! Two girls on their way to Disneyland Paris (once again   ;D
Even though we started on a normal weekday, traffic was quiet and we had a relaxed journey. After two short breaks exit number 14 with the famous mouse finally came into view. While we were driving it rained several times, but as soon as we reached the exit, the sun came out. Now that's how it should be, when visiting the magic kingdom ;-) Alas, we didn't get rid of the rain for the whole holiday.
Since a long time we had booked the Sequoia Lodge again, as I wanted to test the new Golden Forest rooms. We parked the car and walked to the reception. As the Golden Forest Club has it's own reception, we had no waiting time and the check-in was done in a few minutes. The nice receptionist explained, where the Golden Forest rooms are, where we will find the Lounge etc. We got a fastpass-ticket per day and person (which were more than useful, even if you can't use them between 1 p.m. and 4 p.m.) Finally he said, we shouldn't be surprised, the room would be a little bit larger than expected. Whatever he meant with that, we decided to have a quick look into our room before getting our luggage. We took the elevator to the seventh floor (boy, that one is fast) and seconds later stood in front of the door to our room. After opening the door we stood there open-mouthed. It was one of the suites overlooking the lake, with a balcony and everything. Wow! That's an upgrade I would take every time! I guess it had three times the size of a standard room.

here's our view
(https://lh6.googleusercontent.com/-bX6eH7IUVeQ/U_eCRjh1pgI/AAAAAAAACFM/JATIHwkEOIY/w1016-h675-no/IMGP5370.JPG)
After a short relaxing break in this wonderful room, we headed towards the parks. Lazy as we were we took the bus, since the bridge near the Sequoia Lodge was still under construction and we would have had to walk around the whole lake.
Against our tradition we first entered the Studios – Ratatouille was calling :-)

As we had still some time until our Fastpass would be valid, we soaked in the atmosphere of Place Rémy. I love the fountain. Sadly there where so many people around, that you couldn't get a clear shot with the camera.
(https://lh5.googleusercontent.com/-AsV0nPDhzaQ/U_eLWXwhdeI/AAAAAAAACFU/cv-4eMnonIA/w1016-h675-no/IMGP5311.JPG) (https://lh3.googleusercontent.com/-chR5rTCog7o/U_eCejXqmsI/AAAAAAAAB2s/-J_f7Y26X6I/w448-h675-no/IMGP5191.JPG)
Well, it was beautiful nonetheless. We had a quick look inside the waiting area for the restaurant and decided to try and book a table for 5 p.m. It wasn't a problem at all and with the reservation in hands we entered Ratatouille via Fastpass. No waiting time, we could walk right up to the boarding area after grabbing the 3-D-goggles (which are quiet comfortable, even my friend who wears glasses had no problem with them)
What to say about Ratatouille? Beautifully themed ride and amazing effects. I don't wonna spoil it, only a little warning: you may get wet at the end  ;)
By the way, the regular waiting time that day and the following was about 1 hour.
So after visiting the rooftops of Paris and Remy's kitchen we entered the restaurant.
A friendly CM escorted us from the waiting area around a corner and stopped us. She explained that by crossing this point we will shrink to the size of a rat, but nothing to worry about, it won't be permanent (whew, lucky us). And right she was, the tiles on the floor suddenly grew bigger and bigger (it didn't hurt, I swear!  ;)
She showed us our table, which turned out to be the top of a tea-box. Chairs were made of the metal tops, that hold the corks on champagne bottles.
We both chose menu Emile, starter is a mixed salad, main course we opted for the codfish with ratatouille and mashed potatoes, dessert was mousse au chocolate for me and for my friend a piece of brie with jam and a kind of cinnamon fruitcake.
(https://lh4.googleusercontent.com/j0eJ3z8YRobPHCoPmw1F73NXtXZdXOsTloRFtf-2r70=w334-h222-p-no) (https://lh5.googleusercontent.com/-Lp-L1Zp82aw/U_jq9Ard0oI/AAAAAAAAB6o/51UEh8qtC6g/w448-h675-no/IMGP5239.JPG) (https://lh6.googleusercontent.com/KQ11Aa1gnY-rPCcmV7Zqr97CzqUA1KqmKb1G8mhEy0o=w151-h228-p-no)
Salad: just great; normally I'm no friend of beetroot but chopped into thin pieces and kind of smoked it tasted great with the mixed salad and cheese (lightningy  ;D)
Main Course: very yummy, especially the ratatouille
Dessert: wow, nearly too much to eat and great taste; I tried a little piece of my friends dessert. The cheese combined with a little bit of jam and the fruitcake was very tasty.
We didn't meet Rémy, but I'm sure, he was very busy in the kitchen ;-)
After that feast we more or less had to force ourselves to get up again, but we wanted to do some more things that day and so we pulled ourselves together and left Chez Rémy.
Then we had a premiere. We hopped on Cars Race Ralley. I don't know, why we never did this before, but with only 5 minutes to wait, we couldn't say no again. And in no time at all we sat in a tiny car waiting for the start of the race. We expected it to be a little bit like the Mad Hatter's Tea Cups, but it's much faster. And really fun! At some times you really think, you would crash into the next car. A little bit dizzy we checked the time at Crush's Coaster single rider line. It was 40 minutes and my friend wanted to try it. She hadn't done Crush's in years since it was either closed, out-of-order or the waiting time was beyond good and evil.
As I won't do Crush's again, we agreed to meet later at Studio 1 and I did a little foto-shooting and people-watching while she queued for Crush's. I don't have any problems to pass time in the parks on my own :-)

I even discovered a "new" path, which I never used before. If you walk the street between Cafe des Cascadeurs and Stuntshow, you'll emerge between Studio tram and Tower of Terror. You can always find something new, when visiting Disneyland Paris.
It was only about half an hour later, when my friend called on the mobile, that she was already at Studio 1. So the single-rider-line works!
We decided to rummage through the shops as a little rain shower was coming by.
After this little tour we left the Studios and headed to the Disneyland Park. What would be better than a little caribbean adventure with pirates? The two fencers were hidden behind a curtain again, but it's still one of my favourite attractions.
As we both were pretty tired that first day, we put Dreams off to the next day and strolled leisurely back to the bus terminal.

05.08.
Today was a beautiful sunny day.
(that was our "little" balcony)
But it was so cozy in our suite that we missed EMH rising pretty late.
One great thing about the Golden Forest Club, you got breakfast in the separate Golden Forest Lounge, which means no waiting lines and a quite relaxed atmosphere. We got a table near the coffee maschines, which we used quite often  :D
And we had visitors at breakfast. Goofy, Winnie Poo and Minnie (with a cute straw hat). I will miss the characters in the hotels. Even if I'm not one for the Meet-characters, but they add so much to the atmosphere. And you will get a hug wether you want it or not  ;) The CMs were so great, especially with the children.
After breakfast we were off to the Disneyland Park.
I'm in the Shareholders Club since years, but I never had visited Salon Mickey, so I directed my friend away from the queues at the turnstiles and towards the inconspicuous door of Salon Mickey.
The salon is really cute, like an old viktorian salon for tea with an open fireplace. We had a quick coffee and a soft drink in this calm place, while outside the hustle and bustle of the park was going on.

After this short stopover the CM at the salon let us out into the park. The door opens on the right side just in front of the passage under Main Street station.
We had a quick glance at the ,,new" Flora's Boutique. It's quite nice but I miss the old shop. It had such a great decoration with the old cameras and stuff.
On our way to the castle we stopped at Walt's and booked a table for the evening, unfortunately the time was at 9.30 p.m., which meant that we wouldn't get a good place for Dreams afterwards.
We proceeded on Main Street and reached the castle. Instead of walking right to the main entrance, we entered it from below, through the dragon's cave. The beast really looks great, sometimes moving very realistic. We paid the glassblower a quick visit and stepped out into Fantasyland.
Oh boy, masses of people around. I mean, I did expect it to be busy, it was high season after all, but that beat everything. We strolled towards Mad Hatter's Tea Cups. Surprisingly it had only a waiting time from 20 minutes, so we joined the queue. After spinning around the cups, we walked to the boats of Le payes de contes de fees. Waiting time half an hour, that was okay, too, and the tour with the boats is so pleasant.
The queue moved quite fast, and it would have been even faster if the nice old gentleman would have obeyed the CMs and sat down in the boat instead of standing up and let someone take a picture. Great example for the kids, Sir! And the ride had to stop, until he finally sat down.
We had planned to visit Alice's labyrinth afterwards, but there also was a long queue, so we took a walk through Fantasyland instead. We crossed Adventureland and entered Frontierland. After all we had to pay our respects to the ghosts at Phantom Manor. We didn't want to insult them and cause them to haunt our hotel room! Big Thunder Mountain had to wait till the evening, it was out-of-order when we left Phantom Manor.
(not really scary in brigth sunlight  ;D)
As it was about tea-time we had a short break in the hotel; for Golden Forest rooms, you can get a drink and a slice of cake, pastries, or some fruit at the Lounge.
And then it was back to the Studios and use our daily fastpass at Ratatouille (understandable, isn't it?)
The ride is a little bit different every time.

I'm not totally sure, but I think my friend did Crush's once more or was it first Animagique (we saw the show, but I'm not sure about the chronological order any more) oh, well, back to the Disneyland Park and to Big Thunder. In the evening the ride is even better than by day. And to match this, at Walt's we had a table in the Frontierland room. Great place to eat. The food was okay, but I guess we were spoiled by Chez Rémy, so we had very high expectations. As we ate very late, we reached the Central Plaza only ten minutes before Dreams started.

All in all it would have been a good spot to watch, but when Dreams began, some people held up their smartphones and tablet PCs and ruined the view for everyone else! Could have strangled them! Dreams was brilliant, however. But very little light-ears out there. Me and my friend had some. I guess, if they just would reduce the price, more people would buy them. (I used my shareholders discount, but even so they are way too expensive). And there isn't real advertising. I only knew about them because of reports at the forum and the infos for shareholders.
While we waited after Dreams to let the stream of visitors pass by (there must have been a nest around there somewhere, people after people and no end to it) guess whom I met? Nikolai from the forum (he's the one who takes that wonderful pictures; now DLP-Photos.com)! Among thousands of people, and without really planning it. On the other hand, he is about two metres tall (correct me if I'm wrong, Nikolai) and had his tripod and camera with him; that gave him away  :D
After a brief Hello and Good-bye, my friend and I took the bus back to our hotel and had a late cocktail in the bar.

06.08.
This morning my friend wasn't feeling very well. She guessed it was because of the very late diner the previous evening. As it was pouring with rain she just laid down for a bit longer and we had a late breakfast at about 10 o'clock. After a cup of hot strong Earl Grey my friend was fine again and we reorganised today's schedule into a shopping morning at Disney Village until the weather would clear off.
We booked the restaurants for today evening (Chez Rémy) and tomorrow (Blue Lagoon) at our reception, which is much easier and faster than booking in the parks.
Then we armed ourselfes with umbrella and rain coat and took the bus to Disney Village.
Our first stop was the new Lego-Store. It's a great shop, and the large figures (R2D2 life-sized!) and pictures of Disneymovie-scenes, just amazing. I really had to pull myself together not buying the Millenium Falcon  ;D Disney, Lego and Star Wars in one place - yeah!
(https://lh4.googleusercontent.com/--KlR_srIN5I/U_nTjWTqP5I/AAAAAAAACKE/YHfQNMz5ZQg/w448-h675-no/IMGP5622.JPG) (https://lh4.googleusercontent.com/-Fel_2D9FWoY/U_nHg8xI93I/AAAAAAAAB70/oRAdum2Or1Q/w448-h675-no/IMGP5631.JPG)

After Lego we toured the other shops.
(https://lh3.googleusercontent.com/-avZUtkLkICc/U_ncoWuLlNI/AAAAAAAACIo/r77PIfVp1Hg/w546-h674-no/IMGP5639b.jpg)  (https://lh5.googleusercontent.com/-E6yp3Y-17B8/U_nh3amJiGI/AAAAAAAAB8w/psANgcwMruM/w1016-h675-no/IMGP5640.JPG)  (https://lh5.googleusercontent.com/-P-RpFITO-0A/U_nnD90ByvI/AAAAAAAAB9A/uYxmZVYHEIg/w448-h675-no/IMGP5664.JPG)

As always  ;)  I bought some clothes and one or two pins and a little
espresso cup. All in all I took more pictures than buying things, (meant recovery for my poor credit card  :D )
When the weather was getting better at least a little, we brought our purchases back to the hotel and headed for the Studios. My friend used Crush's single-rider line again (it's worth it's weight in gold), while I explored the area around Tower of Terror once more. I never realised that there is a little garden round Tower of Terror.
If you leave the boutique you more or less cross it. As we never did the Tower, we never really spotted it.
On 5 p.m. we had another delicious meal at Chez Rémy.

This time I chose the steak as main course, which tasted very good. As I only like steak when it's well-down (apologies, I know it's a sacrilege to every cook) I was a bit anxious, but it turned out to be just perfect. And this time I had the brie for dessert, which - as I already mentioned – was yummy! Mind, it is a ripe cheese, but that fitted nicely with the jam and fruitcake or fruitbread (sorry, I don't know the correct English expression for it). As in the movie, combine two different tastes to create a totally new one. I hope, they will keep this standard.

We left the Studios and headed once again to the Disneyland Park. Buzz had an acceptable waiting time and so we volunteered for fighting against Zurg.  This time we even reached 4th level (Thanks to an unexpected stop)
By the way, I noticed that, even though the parks were very busy, there wasn't much shoving or pushing in the queues. That was really plesant. I'm used to worse behaviour from previous visits.
For waiting for Dreams we got a seat on one of the benches. As it was getting a little bit chilly, my friend dashed back in one of the shops and bought herself a scarf, while I ,,defended" our spot.
I like the atmosphere in the evening at the castle, the beautiful colours. Even if the castle looks really pink sometimes  ;)
I didn't take many pictures as I wanted to watch Dreams, just a few close-ups.
After Dreams I strolled to the front, because I wanted to take a picture of the illuminated bridge.
I was shocked by the piles of rubbish, people left behind after the show. There must be a dustbin every five metres! Why is it so hard to dump ones litter into one of them instead of throwing it to the ground?
The poor CMs started the clean up immediatly. I really felt sorry for them.

When we got back to the hotel, we decided to pack in the morning and instead relaxing in the bar for a while.

Great report! Sounds like you had a wonderful time.
Your room looks amazing, I can only dream of a room like that!  ;)

Thank you, vampira!
Yes, we were really lucky to get a room like that. We would have never booked a suite.

7.8.
Our last day! Can't be!  :o
Time really flies in Disneyland.
We rose pretty early to pack before breakfast. Noone of us was in the mood to do so. But, well, what you've got to do, you've got to do.
Our last breakfast in the Golden Forest Lounge (sob), but we enjoyed it.
When Goofy was ambling around the tables, one of the waitresses accidentally dropped a glass of cocoa.
Goofy did a little jump to avoid getting cocoa on his shoes and he did the best performance when acting as if it was his fault, that she dropped the glass. He was really great. It was like watching one of his cartoons.
After breakfast we did a last checkup of our room, nothing left, that should be in our suitcases? No? Okay, then of to the parks!
We first headed towards Disneyland Park and got there just in time to see the streetmosphere-music-and-dance at Main Street. It's fun to watch and it's good, that they revive this kind of entertainment. It just fits to Main Street and it disperses the crowds a bit.
For lunch we had booked the Blue Lagoon.
We got there a little bit earlier than our reservation time, but as it wasn't very busy, our table was already ready. We were seated at the waterfront and could watch the boats of Pirates pass by.
I chose the cold cucumber soup with mint as starter, main course the chicken with roasted coconut pieces and rice and matching as dessert the coconut-cream. Everything was served pretty fast and tasted great.

As – so to speak – icing on the cake we did Pirates of the Caribbean of course  ;-)  It's out of question missing that ride! Even with waiting time of 40 minutes, which passed quite fast, by the way.

Well, this relatives of Donald chose a very dangerous place for a rest. I don't want to be there, when Dreams starts  ;D

In the afternoon we left for the Studios to use our last Fastpass for Ratatouille. My friend took a last turn on Crush's and way too soon the time for finally leaving had come. It's so unfair, that the time passes so quickly when having fun!

But we will be back - sooner or later  ;D (hopefully sooner)

Love your trip report! The Sequoia is my favourite hotel and I love the Golden Forest Club, you were so lucky with your room! Your pictures are lovely and the weather looked great. You ate in some of my favourite places as well. I was unsure about trying Chez Remy but I might have to fit this in on my next visit  :D

Your photographs are really amazing. I always wish I would think of taking pictures like that.

Did you like the food at Chez Remy? The restaurant looks really nice and that is good because I never liked any of the restaurants at the Disney Studio's. We always left the park to eat elsewhere.

Yes, we liked the food (and the design of the place is amazing). Best you check the menu first; its no wide choice, but I really liked it. Sadly I forgot to take a picture of it, but I'm sure, you will find it somewhere in the forum.

Hopefully next spring  ;D
together with my sister, her husband, his sister and my nephew (then 6 years old).
I really want to show my nephew Disneyland, before his first day at school next summer.
It will be my first trip with a child, so a totally new experience.

Oh, and Thank you all again for your nice comments   :D

What a fantastic report, thank you! I really enjoyed it and the photos. Seeing inside Chez Remy's made me reconsider our dining plans!!

We are staying in the GF next month, I was really excited to read that you used the hotel fast pass on ratatouille. I've never used a fast pass at all before, with the hotel one can you just go straight into the fast pass line or do you still have to get a time slot?

Xx

MinnieMum, you can use the hotel fastpass straight away. You only have to bear in mind, that it isn't valid from 1 p.m. to 4 p.m. Before or after that time, you can use it.
Have a great trip!
