Title: Hidden Extras & Secret Gems
Post by: bad-pink-tink on November 10, 2013, 09:32:42 PM
getting into the planning stages right now and thought I would ask about the really really hidden secret gems and little extras that the more experienced members have found.

Ive been doing some research and have complied a list. Im not sure how up to date this info is, it is very likely that some of these are no longer available but I'm going to ask anyway.

ok so far my internet research has come up with

My First Visit Badge -  my friend got me one from City Hall in Disneyland California so I want to get one for my mum

Riverboats - ask CM  for a map and to steer the boat. If you get to steer the boat you get to sign a guestbook and receive a certificate

Buffalo Bill - ask City Hall if they do a mounted parade through Disney village and what time it is at

Disneyland Train - ask CM if you can ride up front in the tender seat, also ask about a reservation for the Lily Belle carriage

Phantom Manor - ask CM about death certificate

So does anyone know if these are still being done at DLP and does anyone have other suggestions. I know about the dragon under the castle and the sounds outside the shops on main street.

This all is stuff you can do in California I am sure. As a lot of this was on an Adam Rucker video on youtube

I genuinely think a lot of these are Disneyland, Cali. I did read somewhere they've stopped the Death Certificates specifically.

I didn't know you could get a Captains certificate from the River boat at DLP, i have never seen anyone get one. Only for VIP guests on a guided tour i think. :P

Disneyland Paris isn't in the habit of handing out certificates on the river boats or any other ride, if they do it must be a very closely guarded secret. During a press event or a VIP guided tour they might hand out free certificates. And there is no way a guest could ask a Cm for a map and be allowed to steer the boat as mention in the list, there will be health and safety rules to cover that sort of thing in case of an accident. I would be amazed if that was allowed.

thats why these are secrets which are not advertised or well known!!

after researching about the riverboats, they are actually on tracks under the water and the captain is not actually piloting or steering the boat in the normal way. THAT'S why they allow guests to do this, and in actual fact if you watch the video on the previous page someone from this forum has recently done this and got the certificate.

I think its quite funny that experienced members of the forum who have been to the park over many years are poring scorn on my findings, all because THEY didnt know about these things... I will keep this thread updated and report back on my findings when I visit the park in just over 6 weeks time.

Filip was saying he just asked one of the CM's on the ship for a tour and they were more than happy. I think it's one of those we won't advertise it but will do it when asked! I'm not sure if you're still allowed in the pilot's bridge anymore (health and safety or something, which is why Filip doesn't go in on the tour) but you can still see in the little cabins of the ship and get the certificate.
Anyway, here's a picture of the rails for the riverboats :D

I know the river boats are on tracks like the boats in Pirates of the Caribbean are on tracks. The video is called a VIP tour of the Molly Brown, and one of the guest does appear to be wearing a badge which gave me a different impression, rather than something that was open to all guests. And there was no video shot of a guest steering the boat, but as the boat runs on tracks it wouldn't need steering by a cm/captain anyway, would it. I do know you can book a guided tour of the parks for a charge and i thought it might be part of that tour. But i must admit I've never seen a guided tour of the Molly Brown before and I've never heard it mentioned on the forum until now. :)  If it's not advertised how are people supposed to know they can get a certificate.

On the subject of Hidden Mickeys, there is one I know of in the Disneyland Parc that, so far, I've not seen anybody ever mention.  I'm going to look around forums etc in more detail soon and see if I might have some sort of exclusive, LOL!

I took a picture of it, so will have evidence  :P

The ride broke down. We thought we would get in one more ride before leaving the resort and the ride broke down, we only had 30 minutes left before we had to catch the Euro Star home. :o Luckily for us the boat came to a stop beside some steps and an exit door, so we could get out of the boat without getting into the water and rush back stage. We followed two maintenance men into the control room, they weren't very pleased to see us in French but we didn't have much choice, we didn't want to miss our train back home, one of them understood enough English to lead us out. Anyway we did get a sort of VIP back stage tour and saw the hidden secrets of the control room. We never go on a ride after lunchtime now on our last day just in case. ;)

If you can get to them check out the benches in the area around Ratatouille (I really need to learn to spell) Look specifically at the metal work. Cant take credit for this, read it somewhere else on this forum but as a detail I love it

I found this buried deep in the back pages of the forum

Quote from: Lordofthemightybeasts on March 24, 2007, 11:18:42 AM
Secrets, hmmm...

Okay- go to Adventure Isle and try to find a little clearing at ground level to the East (taking Main Street as pointing due North) of the large suspension bridge. You should notice a rather large, flat rock. If you push one side it will roll over on a central pivot.

In Boot Hill, the graveyard at the exit of Phantom Manor, look for a large metal sarcophogus grave. If you press your ear up against it you should hear a faint heartbeat from inside it.

There are loads inside Sleeping Beauty's Castle. On the first floor inside the castle there is a large oval window pointing towards main street. Every few second the image on it changes from a rose to a dove.
In a nearby scene there are two suits of armour. Listen closely and you can hear them snoring.
Next to that is a stone statue of Malificent's raven. If you take a flash photo of it you should notice that its eyes briefly glow red.
And, if you didn't know, a huge animatronic dragon is to be found lurking underneath the castle.

Right, Pirates Of The Caribbean. In the interior queue you will walk past a barred window looking into a room with a broken floor and a chandelier with a skeleton lying on it. Near the end of the actual ride, in the scene with the skeletons drinking in the bar, look up at the broken ceiling and you will see that same chandelier from earlier.

At the entrance to Adventureland look up along the top of the wall stretching from the left of the entrance. There is a large bird (the Roc bird from Arabian legends) egg sitting on top of the wall in a nest.

On Big Thunder Mountain, when you're on the first chain lift through the tunnel. Look down and ahead on your right by the waterfalls. You should notice an opening in the rock and some train tracks. This is where the trains rush by as they enter the last tunnel before the big drop underwater. If you're lucky you might also see a train shoot past.

That's all I can think of off the top of my head...  <!-- s:wink: -->:wink:<!-- s:wink: -->

I found it in this thread https://forum.dlpguide.com/index.php?topic=1757.0 and there are loads more little secrets like this

Not sure if it's classed as a secret or not, but one of our great tips is to do the animation/illustration class at the end of the Art of Animation attraction. You don't have to go through the attraction, a CM will tell you times an illustrator will be there teaching you how to draw.  But at the beginning of the class ask the illustrator if you can have their picture at the end of the class, they will sign it and you can take it home.  We have 3 from our last trip, Disney originals!  As well as our own, slightly less perfect artwork.
