Title: What time to book Cafe Mickey?
Post by: Disneymumof2 on June 29, 2012, 07:08:10 PM
Hello everyone!
I'm new to this forum and this is my first post, i hope i get it right!

Myself and my family are off to DLP in about three weeks, for our third visit!  The kids have no idea, and i don't know how i'm managing to keep quiet, i'm so excited!

We have never done any character dining before, and i'm thinking of booking an evening meal at Cafe Mickey as an extra surprise for the kids.  My question is what time do you think is best, considering the parade is now at 7?  Is there a certain time the characters come out, or are they there all the time?  The kids are 7 and 3, and i know i'll struggle to get them to wait until after the parade for a meal. I don't mind going there while the parade is on, as we are there for 5 days.
Any suggestions will be much appreciated!
Thank you! :D

Its probably quieter while the parade is on and as youre there for 5 days youve got 5 attempts at seeing the parade at least!

Title: Mickey cafe breakfast
Post by: SARAH_THOMSON4 on September 01, 2012, 05:44:53 PM
Hi, I am new to this site so am looking for as many tips as possible to make my trip to Disney the most enjoyable i possibly can.
I have booked a mickey breakfast but cant find any menu's for what they serve at breakfast. Does anyone know? I have twin sons who will be 3 when we go and they can be fussy when it comes to food. I am travelling for the first time with my sons and am pretty nervous, i dont know where the best places to go are. We aren't interested in any of the big rides and would like to just go on the family rides but dont know what are the best one.
We are travelling at the start of November so i am guessing that the weather over there will be similar to the uk?
I hope someone can help thanks xx

Hi^^ :)
they have a buffet for breakfast. You can find everything from cereals to bacon and egg, bread, jam, and stuff like that... For my taste they had a very rich selection. I'm sure you'll find what you want... :)

There are plenty of rides you and especially your children might enjoy ...
Here is a great guidebook, which is worth to look at... with tips and information about each attraction:

We had the breakfast at Cafe Mickey in June and it was lovely, the characters work their way round the rooms (there is one big main room and a sort-of conservatory at the side from what I could see) and spend time at each table posing for photos, signing autograph books and they are really good at making sure that every child at every table gets seen, and no-one is forgotten :D

The food was quite similar to the hotel breakfasts - pain au chocolat, croissants, toast, bread, jams and marmalades, fruit salad, ham and cheese, and then there was sausages, scrambled eggs, and bacon I think! I'm sure you will find something your sons will love, and even if they just have something plain like toast it will still be worth the money because it is lovely to be that close to the characters and to get all excited as you know they are getting nearer!

As for the weather, yes in my experience it is very similar to the UK - although I have heard people say that they weren't quite prepared for the winter months and wish they had taken more layers so that may be worth keeping in mind :) I think things like taking more socks and shoes than you need just in case of bad weather, that sort of thing, is a good plan.

DLRP Magic is an amazing site, definitely worth having a look at! If you use that site or the Disneyland Paris official website, you can find out more about the rides. I would recommend It's a Small World, Pirates of the Caribbean (if they don't scare too easily!), Le Pays des Contes de Fees (Storybook ride), Casey Jnr, Mad Hatter's teacups, the Carrousel...erm...trying to think now...Dumbo! Fantasyland is a perfect land for smaller visitors, lots of child friendly rides. If you have a look at some DLP sites, you can see the different rides in each land and make a list of what sounds suitable, so you know where to head to when you arrive.

Hope you have a great time!

Hello,
We are planing on celebrating (a bit belated) birthday of our 6 years old daughter, I know that she wants character breakfast, but is it possible to have a birthday cake during character breakfast as well?

Thank you in advance for your help

I've seen it happen at breakfast, so it is possible.

Hello,

The quietest time I found was approx 18:00, as you have 5 days you have many times to see the parade, as previously stated. The characters are out all through the evening, only  leaving for breaks, but the restaurant is never without a couple of characters.

I have never had a breakfast there so can not comment about a cake, but our party did celebrate a birthday there at dinner. A cake is bought to the table  with music playing, all the characters out come to the table dancing and most of the restaurant clap and cheer.

Our Disney trip would not be the same without a trip to Cafe Mickey's

As far as I'm aware there are only characters present during breakfast.

Cowboy Cookout has charaters during lunch, but its not a buffet

Breakfast is a hot buffet which includes sausages , bacon , scrambled eggs , potatoes . Then there are loads of pastries like croissants , doughnuts and brownies , a selection of cold meats , cheese , smoked salmon , and then the usual cereal , yogurts and fruit . You should definitely do it , its so yummy! And you wont eat again until dinner , if your like me and your eyes are bigger than your belly!

Thank you, that sounds like a lot of food!

We're going on Halloween day and for the party at night, so I'm thinking of having the breakfast as a treat and to fill us up, the either the Plaza Buffett or Agrahbah Cafe just after the parade.

Title: Cafe Mickey Christmas Eve
Post by: kelly.dylan on October 25, 2012, 04:26:36 PM
Hi all,

I hope someone can help me. We are going for christmas this year and as I have booked the expensive christmas day meal wanted something cheaper for christmas eve.

I added a character meal in Cafe Mickey on 24th to my booking and thought this was a much better idea but when i called yesterday (the 60 days in advance) I was told that i cant book Cafe Mickey yet and to call back in November! Something to do witha menu i think was the reason.

Has anybody eaten in Cafe Mickey on christmas eve and is there a special menu? Im slightly worried now as ive paid for my character dinner there and dont want them to say the voucher cannot be used!!
I also don't want to wait til Nov and they're full and im left with £60 vouchers!!

Thanks for any help/advice

Post by: MinnieMum on November 27, 2012, 01:55:25 PM
Hi,

I have already booked a meal at Cafe Mickey with my initial booking (going in December) but it was just for the date so I want to ring and book a time.

I read somewhere else that the characters don't arrive til 6.15 in the evening, can someone please confirm that this is correct?

Also, does anyone know what time the Agrabah cafe is likely to close if the park is open til 8?

Many thanks  :)

Characters are mostly out starting at 6 but if there are not a lot of reservations it can be 6:20. Hope this helps.

Don't worry, even when you arrive at 6 and the characters won't be out starting 6:20, you will normally still see every character as they will place you at the start of the route the characters follow ;)

Just like to say that we had 'dinner' at Cafe Mickey last week and it was possibly one of the worst meals we've ever had.  The food was very poor in both quality and preparation and the service is dreadful- we waited nearly 30 mins to be seated even though we had a reservation and then a further 10 mins waiting for a highchair.

We enjoyed the character interaction but we probably wouldnt go again because the food just isnt good enough

When we there Dec 9th-16th the characters seemed to be in there all day or at least from 1pm.  We were in HNY and of course waled right past Cafe Mickey a lot and the usual crowd of characters seemed to always be there.

I was thinking of celebrating into my birthday in Café Mickey (if possible, till/past midnight) as well.

Does anybody know
a) the latest possible reservation time?
b) if there are still characters when I arrive this late?
c) if it's possible to pre-order just the cake (i've no problem in ordering two cakes and champagne, I won't just need dinner anymore this late)?
d) and if the Café Mickey closes at 11pm and everybody needs to leave asap or if it's possible to sit there a little longer (possibly till midnight?)

If anybody knows answers, it's greatly appreciated! :) Thanks!

Post by: Jens on January 10, 2013, 12:08:16 PM
Hi basti007!

a) I don't know the exact maximum reservation time, but I know you can still come in just before 11 pm. However, the waiters will tell you that there is a possibility that you will not see every character. In fact, maybe even no characters will be seen (if it's busy).
b) At the moment only a few characters stay inside the restaurant until 11 pm (mostly 2 or 3). The others leave like 10 minutes before 11.
c) Yes you can, just mention it at time of reservation. In fact, I think it's obligatory to pre-order the cake.
d) I'm sure you can sit a bit longer, as the waiter's shifts still run after the characters have left.

Hope this is any help!
Title: Character Breakfast using half board plus?
Post by: Twinmuumy on January 15, 2013, 07:53:32 PM
Hello I am new to this site. we are going to Disneyland Paris in May this year, So excited! I have read all the information I can find About the meal plans  and we have chosen to go for the half board plus option. I understand you can use the vouchers for lunch or dinner but what about a character breakfast? We are staying at the davey Crockett ranch and have breakfast included as we have purchased the meal plan. But can we use one of our meal plan vouchers for the character breakfast at Mickey's cafe? If we can't get the meal included with the half board Plus for breakfast could we get the value of our vouchers knocked off the price of the breakfast?

I really want to take our twins their for their 4th birthday but having paid for the half board vouchers I can't afford to take them to the character breakfast if I don't use the half board vouchers.

Any advice would me much appreciated, thanks.

Hope I have posted this in the right section.

I'm sorry you had such a bad time :/ The last time we went we had a really good time, the food was all lovely I even took a picture of the dessert and I remember being dragged up to dance, we had so much food we didn't stop laughing all through out dinner. I hope you managed to find a place where you had a good dinner, even if it wasn't at Cafe Mickey.

This is the picture of my dessert :)

Post by: Darren1998 on January 24, 2013, 07:37:31 AM
Hi guys

Hoping someone can help me out here.

Taking my wee girl over for the weekend tomorrow and considering doing the character dining at Cafe Mickey.

I noticed that the menus are priced as 3+ on the children's menu and as she doesn't turn 3 until July I'm wondering if she'll get something to eat for free and if this is the case how it'll work?

Any info would be much appreciated.

Leaving my wife and 6 month old at home due to the weather so any tips in general for taking your youngster on their own would be gratefully received!!! :)

Thanks

Darren

From experience (although not with cafe Mickey), the only way you wouldn't have to pay for your little one is if you're eating at a buffet-style place, otherwise no food is provided, you might be better off with the tea party at the cowboy cookout, if that's on, or with inventions (pricey, but since you're only paying for you, wouldn't work out that different to paying for an adult and child at cafe mickey), i think both of these tend to be quieter to eat, and yo get more interaction there too.  Hope you have a fab time!

Was very disappointed with cafe mickey on this visit :(
2 years ago the food was amazing , a real atmosphere to the place . The manager had staff on tables dancing , everybody standing up clapping , was really great.
This time the food was awful. Very little choice , my pizza was burnt . Hardly any choices on kids menu. The kids pizza was also burnt. The pasta sauce was un eatable .
Won't be going back again in a hurry.
Also last time the kids had activity packs and their cups came out in plastic cups we could keep. This time no activity packs and no cups

Has anyone gone here and just ordered for their kids off the main menu?  Noticed that the kids menu has increased, and as we have 4 kids, their set meals would be €80.  We were thinking of ordering a couple of regular sized pizzas for them to share and just ordering main courses for ourselves, and then maybe desserts or coffees?  Would this be ok, or be frowned upon?  I know that we must pay a premium for the character interaction but at €20 a child I think that is a bit of a rip off

We went last month. We had looked at the menu before we went and noticed it had changed and gone up in price.
When we got to DLP we booked Cafe Mickey and decided that we would just order off the menu and not the set menu.  The kid's just had pizza and a burger. When we have eaten there before there was has always been plenty of characters. This time however we only saw 4. I think it is very over priced and from now on we will only have a character breakfast there.

If you are staying onsite then you can add it as part of your package. I dont know about off site I am afraid.

As for Goofy-Done it 5 times (Yes, we are greedy!) and seen him twice. You normally get the main mouse and his lady. We have always had Chip and/or Dale too, but dont know if this is the norm.

The breakfast is excellent I paid to do this twice on my last visit. It's not very crowded, you get extra breakfast items including hot options and you can take your time with the characters. The first time we went for the last sitting but the second time we went for the first sitting and stayed to the end. This meant we hardly had to spend anything on lunch as we were still full and we got to see two different groups of characters. Excellent value for money!

I've always booked the breakfast as part of the package when I book the holiday but I have never seen the place full. I would imagine it's ok to just book when you get there but it really depends on what time of year you go. If you're visiting during school or public holidays I would book just to avoid disappointment but I would imagine at quieter times of the year you could just book it when you get to the resort.

Are the same characters there at breakfast and dinner?
Title: Re: Café Mickey — Disney Village
Post by: gemma2806 on August 18, 2013, 10:25:30 PM
Sometimes but what they tend to do is have roughly 8-10 different characters on rotation. If you go in the morning for breakfast at the first sitting at 8am and stay till at least the second sitting at 9:30 you get to see all the characters. I did this last visit, had breakfast at 8am and stayed till 10am as they don't make you leave, and we saw 8 different characters in total.

In the evening it would be harder to see this many. I had dinner here at 6:30 one night and didn't leave till 9pm and we only got to see 4 characters in this time, I imagine they drag out the rotation of characters as they have a much longer time slot to fill in the evenings.

I read on another forum that there are now less characters and they have a set route so no tables get missed and the characters are basically going to be the fab five. So no more surprises as to who you are going to meet then . Im afraid its losing its appeal for me. There are so few character meals on offer now cafe mickey was always a favourite for us especially the element of surprise.

Yes you definitely can but as SVioletS has said you do have to pay slightly more, this has something to do with the breakfast prices you pay as part of the package for staying on site being slightly more than the packages you pay for staying off site.

I do remember from last year when I went though that you weren't given the option of the first seating it was only the 2nd seating that was open to off site hotels but I'm not sure if this still applies or not  :)

Great thanks!

I'll see if I can fit breakfast instead of lunch... If I do I'll call to book it and ask about the price, I'll let you know!

Hi, would someone be able to clear something up for me.

I have a reservation at 5:30, but realised it would be pushing it a bit for us to be able to catch dreams at 7 (three under 5's take forever).  So i phoned up again to bring the reservation forward an hour, but was told Cafe Mickey isn't open until 6:15.  Hmmmm...... so for my original reservation am I eating on the floor outside?  I thought Cafe Mickey was open all day?  Do you reckon I should just chance it and arrive early?  Or re-arrange when I get there (this is on our first night and thought it would be a nice way to kick off the week).

I think 6;15 is the earliest time that the characters come out, so perhaps your booking at 5;30 would still be valid but wouldn't have characters walking round? We had a 6,30 sitting last time but got there early and the restaurant definitely had people already eating meals.

Cool, well our plan was to eat early there on our first night as a bit of a warm up for the kids for the magic ahead, then head on into the park to catch dreams at closing time, which i think is 7 the day we arrive.  So may get the tail end of the characters.

Hi,
We plan to do this meal (dinner) to meet some characters.
We are planning to go October this year, going by archived times it looks like the park would close around 8pm.  What time do the characters come out to at Cafe Mickey?
TIA

Hi, also bumping this one up too...

What time can you book here? Is it open for lunch (around 12)and then again dinner (say 5.30pm), or can you go at say 2.30pm or even 3pm?

Can you just go in as a family of 4, and order 2 pizzas, 4 soft drinks and a few desserts or do you have to have set meals? (We went in Feb with half board premium so ate off the set menu so I'm unsure)

Would we still meet characters if we ate at 3pm?

Thanks

Hey I think lunch is 12-245 then dinner 530 onwards. You can order what you like unless you're on a meal plan, as some plans only allow you to eat from the set menu.

Ah thats great thank you. So do you think last "admission" would be 2.45? Or is that when it would shut? Thanks

If it's like most restaurants in the park, it would be last admission, then they'll clean up before dinner starts. The characters come out from 12:30 or 12:45 until end of lunch - so any time you go should be fine for seeing them. I also read somewhere that they've changed it now so it's less chaotic and each character will come to your table as they go round in a circle almost, and pass each table.

You'll better call and ask when the last seating is.
Walt's should be open until 17.00 last November. We want to book a table for 17.00 but this wasn't possible, they told us: last seating a half hour before closing. And please no special request because the kitchen is closing no minute later than 17.00 - you can eat longer, but can't get something fresh cooked after that time. I don't know if it's the same at Café Mickey, so better call.

Ah right ok, well I will call when we are able to book (upto 60 days in advace) and ask. With it being winter when we go, it might be nice to have breakfast at 7 at HNY, go to the parks, have a warm but light lunch at say 1pm, meet some more characters, either go for a swim, do shopping etc, head back into the park for the paradr and dreams and have a late tea on our last night. It could be quite cold while were there so an afternoon rest and warm up would be good. Thanks for your help!

Hi folks

Has anybody eaten at Café Mickey in the last couple of months? When we were there last December, the food and service were terrible and we vowed never to go back. Such a shame as we have been there on every trip for the past 11 years and love the atmosphere. Have just had a look at the menu and it looks different to what I remember, so wonder if a few changes have been made, including the quality of service and food.

Love the character interaction, and can't fault that, but it's an expensive way to get nice photos and autographs!

We're definitely doing Inventions and Rainforest Café again this next visit, but would just like to plan where we are going to eat each evening.

Thanks for any advice.

Hi

We were there mid September and ate at Cafe Mickey twice! The service was really good, we had the same waitress both times and she was lovely and really good with our children. The good was OK, it certainly wasn't the best food I've ever eaten but it wasn't terrible. I found my steak a bit fatty on our second visit which I wasn't too pleased about as I hate fatty food. I would say the mediocre food was worth it to see the kids faces xx

Does Cafe Mickey still do character meals on New Years Day? I'm hoping so as I would love to book it as a surprise for New Years Days, as at least we will get to definately meet some characters this way!

Thanks

Hi, is there a set time the characters come out please? We go August 29th - September 1st, my youngest is a bit wary of characters, we made progress two years ago by the end of the holiday she was hugging them all. When's the latest do you think I can book it please?

I would think so yes.
I would think that if you go find a good spot for Dreams at 8pm you should be fine.

Has anyone had breakfast here yet on their own?
I'm going alone for 2 days in November and thinking about having breakfast there on the 2nd day.

I've been twice before with a friend, so I never really noticed, but usually there is no CM attending every character?

I wouldn't like to bother the people next to me who are eating aswell, and ask them everytime to take pictures.

Hi, don't know if this has already been answered but does anyone know how much it is for breakfast with the characters in cafe mickey? Also what would be the better/nicer option to do: evening meal here having to add to our standard meal plan or paying the money for breakfast?

Thanks in advance.

Breakfast is around €15 per adult. Can't help with whether breakfast or dinner is better as I've not had either there.

Thanks for the price, not saving anything booking in UK so if decide to go will just pay over there.

Breakfast was terrible.  They bought out the same gluten free bread and biscuits they had in our normal hotel.  Apart from that there was fresh fruit and bacon.  Nothing else was suitable

Its 17 € if you are staying at a Disney hotel
22 € if you are staying at a partner hotel.

Don't know how much if you are not staying at one of those hotels.

We were thinking of doing breakfast here to meet some characters and it's the cheapest option for us.

My daughter is coeliac and was I  looking at photos of the buffet to see her options. Would they be totally against me sneaking in some cereal for her?
Anyone know can they provide gluten free bread at all?

Also any difference between 8am booking or 9.30 or are they the same?Would you recommend one over the other?

They won't have any problem with you bringing in cereal but you'll still need to pay full price.

again gluten free choices although the bread is horrible, aside from that she can have bacon eggs fresh fruit and yogurts.  we tried it last year and I could have cried at the price- yes characters were great but I was really just paying for the characters.  both my boys had two gluten free cakes and one of then a kiwi fruit.  that was it! ! if your budget could stretch I'd recommend auberge De cendrillon (princesses )  they were very accommodating and there was good on tge normal that could be eaten or inventions for mixed characters although again wr fiound there there was very little my Kids could eat.  they stuck to the fruit stand and had some salad from the starters area.  everything else was in sauce.  in they end they refunded the payment for one child.

Hi guys! Hoping you can help! My friend and I are going to DLP in November just in time for the Christmas goodness to start. We're thinking of going to Cafe Mickey but I'm wondering what's the best time to book in the evening. We don't want to miss Dreams, is it possible to get a reservation after 7:30 (park closes at 7) WITH characters? Or will we miss them all by then?

We're going to be there Sunday 13th-Tuesday 15th but we have to leave Tuesday evening so we won't be doing dinner. We're hoping to do Blue Lagoon one of evenings so we'll miss Dreams then, and I was hoping we'd be able to catch dreams and THEN go to Cafe Mickey. Any help would be super appreciated!
Thanks guys!

If I were you, I'd book breakfast at CM as the food reviews haven't been great lately. Another advantage of breakfast is that it's usually not as crowded as lunch or dinner so you get to spend more time with the characters.  :D

anyone planning the breakfast should definately do it, since café mickey is said to be closed soon for "changing the concept". Character meals will only be inside the park from then on
